CORONA VIRUS UPDATE We are all very aware of the news regarding emergence of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV),

originating from Wuhan in China.

Whilst there are no cases in NZ as of print date, please be vigilant in monitoring the overall well-being of

your children over the coming weeks. Please do not send students to school who have a fever, cough,

shortness of breath or who exhibit flu-like symptoms i.e. runny nose, sore throat, malaise or muscle aches.

Please also remind students of the need to take extreme care with personal hygiene, practising good cough

and sneeze etiquette. Cover coughs and sneezes, dispose of contaminated products like tissues

immediately and wash hands properly.

If a student still attends school while showing symptoms the Principal of a state school can preclude them

if they believe on reasonable grounds they may have a communicable disease (Section 19 Education Act).

The student has to stay away for the infectious period of the specific disease. It takes 2 weeks to incubate.

NZQA

Students who sat external examinations last year should receive their exam booklets back shortly. These should all be checked for:

• Admin errors

• does the result on the front page match what is recorded by NZQA?

• are all pages marked?

• does the grade at the front match the requirements from the judgement statements? (these are found on the NZQA website for each subject).

DISAGREEMENT WITH THE MARKER’S JUDGEMENTS

• if a student feels their work is at a higher level we recommend they seek advice from their subject teacher from last year first.

• If a student wishes to return a booklet to NZQA for review or reconsideration the required forms and process to do so is outlined in their login area on the NZQA website.

https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/ncea-results/reviews-and-reconsiderations/ • This process is only open for a short period of time so students need to act now.

• The Exam timetable for end of year NZQA Exams is in the ‘news’ section in this newsletter for forward planning for families.

• Applications for Reviews and Reconsiderations for NCEA externally assessed standards close

on Wednesday 21 February 2020.

PARKING AT ROTORUA LAKES HIGH SCHOOL

We appreciate your cooperation with the following parking

regulations at the school: please arrange with your child to meet

further down the road.

Please do not park at the bus stop near the school main gate between 3.15 pm and 3.45 pm. It is illegal to

park or briefly stop as this is a designated bus area only which is regularly enforced by the Police and tickets

have been issued before.

Always single park (double parking causes accidents and traffic jams).

___________________________________________________________________________

SIGNING OUT OF SCHOOL DURING THE DAY

The system is:

The student brings a note written and signed by parent / caregiver. We would appreciate this in note form

rather than ringing in.

The student presents the note to leave class

of school

The student signs back into school at the Duty Dean’s office when they return.

return to school if you have not phoned in.

We also have an ABSENCE LINE FOR TEXTING 027 765 4957. Please give your name, your student’s

name, House Group and the reason for absence.

Please contact our Attendance Officer, Mrs Paula Short, if you have any concerns 345 6124, ext 266.
