Start your day at the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion, part of The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, (11 Tarsat Ave, between Dizengoff St and Ben Zion Blvd, www.tamuseum.com/museum/index.htm, Mo, Wed 10 am - 4 pm; Tues, Thurs 10 am - 10 pm, Fri 10 am - 2 pm, Sat 10 am - 4 pm) Set in a beautiful building, designed by leading Israeli modern architects Dov Karmi and Zeev and Yaacov Rechter, the pavilion presents temporary exhibitions, usually by Israeli artists.

After leaving the pavilion you can take a short break at the nearby Yaacov Garden (the whole area is going through renovation now, since the nearby Habima theatre is being rebuilt). Climb up to see two of Tel Aviv's oldest sycamores. Lots of Tel Aviv cultural life is happening outdoors, and on a typical day you can find some local musicians at an outdoor rehearsal, artists, and other indicators of Tel Aviv's vibrant cultural life.

When leaving the pavilion turn right onto Dizengoff Street, and to the left, down the street. Hamidrasha Gallery of Art (34 Dizengoff St, between Shmaryahu Levin St and King George St, www.beitberl.ac.il/gallery, Mo -Thu 12pm - 7pm, Fri 10am - 1pm), this non-commercial art gallery of the Midrahsha Art School, shows interesting exhibitions by artists from different generations, not necessarily graduates of the school. In the last few years it has been curated by Doron Rabina, one of Israel’s leading young curators, who was recently appointed the head of the Midrasha Art School, who has given it a sophisticated, sometimes whimsical, flavor.

Chelouche Gallery (5 Hisin St, alost on the corner of Dizengoff St, www.chelouchegallery.com, Mo - Thu 10am - 1pm, 5pm - 7pm, Fri 10am - 1pm, Sat 11am - 1pm) – continue down Dizengoff Street and turn left into small Chisin Street. Chelouche Gallery is hiding in the basement of one of the buildings on your left. The gallery represents Miki Kratsman, Yadid Rubin and Guy Goldstein, among many others.

Continue walking on Hisin Street, then cut through the little garden which brings you back to Tarsat Avenue. Take a look at the mysterious deserted house on 27 Chisin Street. As a result of a family fight the house has been empty for many years. In 2006 it hosted an art show, and many people are still hoping to make a permanent gallery out of it.

Back on Tarsat Avenue turn right toward Sderot Ben Zion. Stop for a café and a quick bite in Café Nechama Va’Hetzi (144 Ahad Ha’am St, in Kikar Ha’Bima, Sun -Thurs 7am - 2am, Fri 7am - 5:30pm, Sat 11am - 2am), on the large porch overlooking the street. Many artists and journalists have made this café their out-of-home office and sit here with their laptops all day long.

Turn left to Echad Ha’am street - if Café Nechama was too crowded you can also stop at Café Noah, which has a lovely backyard (93 Ahad Ha’am St, Sun - Thurs 7:30am - Midnight, Fri 8am - 6pm), another popular daytime stop for musicians and artists – and walk down toward the midtown gallery scene.

8.Gallery 39 for Contemporary Art (39 Nahmani St, almost on the corner of Yehuda Halevi St,www.artgallery39.com, Mo - Thu 11am - 7pm; Fri 10am - 2pm, Sat 11am - 1pm), turn left on Nahmani Street and go two blocks down to Gallery 39. The gallery, opened in 2007, represents some great young talents like Olaf Kühnemann, Eran Shakin, Arik Miranda, Asnat Austerlitz and Danny Yahav-Brown.

Across the street from the gallery you can visit the beautiful wonderland of Sarit Shani-Hai (36 Nahmani St, www.shanihay.com). Sarit, the sister of the artist Gil Shani, is offering unique children's room designs, including special dolls and mobiles that will make any adult smile.

Julie M. Gallery for Contemporary Art (10 Bezalel Jaffe St, between Ahad Ha'am St and Rothschild Blvd, Tel Aviv www.juliem.com, Mo - Thu 12 - 7pm, Fri - Sat 11am - 2pm), is located almost on the corner of Echad Ha’am street. The gallery, that recently opened a branch in Toronto, represents a long list of artists, including Anat Betzer, Michal Na’aman and Shai Kremer.

Noga Gallery of Contemporary Art (60 Ahad Ha'am St, between Bezalel Jaffe St and Ben Zakai St, www.nogagallery.com, Mo - Thu 11am - 7pm; Fri - Sat 11am - 2pm) represents many successful artists such as Keren Cytter, Orit Raff, Itamar Jobani, Roi Kuper and Ori Gersht.

Turn left on Yavne Street to Rothschild Boulverad, Tel Aviv's loveliest Avenue. Look around at the beautiful buildings – many of them are Bauhaus buildings, built around the 1930's and 40's – notice the clean lines, the sunlit staircases and the symmetrical balconies. Other buildings are from the Eclectic period, 1910 – 1920, with a mix of local and oriental elements. Stop for a drink and mix with the locals at one of the many kiosks spread on along the boulevard, a popular Friday afternoon hangout.

Sommer Contemporary Art Gallery (13 Rothschild Blvd, Between Nachalat Binyain St and Herzel St, www.sommergallery.com, Mo-Thur 11am - 7pm, Fri 10am - 2pm, Sat 11am - 1pm), probably Tel Aviv’s most international gallery, is located in a beautiful building on the boulevard. Some of Israel’s most successful artists show here, including Yael Bartana, Rona Yefman, Yehudit Sasportas, Sharon Ya’ari, Adi Nes and many more.

A few more favorite stops on Rothschild Boulevard – Carousel Kids Design store (27 Rothschild Ave) Yogo delicious frozen Yogurt (19 Rothschild Ave), Max Brener Chocolate Bar (45 Rothschild Ave)

From here you can continue walking to Gan Ha’chasmal – The Electricity Garden, Tel Aviv's newest art and design quarter, or step down toward Neve Tzedek, Tel Aviv's first neighborhood, with its lovely cafés and romantic atmosphere.
