“The college has carried out a number ofinternal refurbishments to bring the internalfacilities up to a very good standard, thebuilding was now let down by the external viewsand lack of double glazing and insulation. Afterresearching the market and looking at localcladding projects it was decided to engage d+bFacades to externally clad the entire front half ofthe Eastwood Building at the Rotherhamcampus and give it a much needed face lift.

Works began in July 2015 and were competedby the end of December that year, the projectwas carried out during holidays and term timewhich required close discussion and negotiationbetween client and contractor. With very tighttime schedules being imposed by the client toensure minimal disruption to classes and collegelife in general, it became a balancing act whichd+b managed well without a hitch whilemaintaining the quality finish requiredthroughout the project. During the projectrestrictions were placed upon d+b about noise,access to site and working times, all of whichwere agreed and managed without impingingupon the programme or completion dates. Theinternal works carried out following theinstallation of the windows proved to be farmore complex than originally thought andcaused more than a few headaches along theway but fit and finish were very good. Duringthe internal works the college discovered thatfeatures of the building that had been hiddenwere opened up by the removal of the oldwindows, this has made a massive impact to therooms making them seem much lighter andbigger, not to mention a lot warmer!

During all the works the college and d+b haveworked very closely together to ensure that westay on target, the working relationship hasbeen one of the best I have encountered withnothing being too much trouble and no requestfor information or impromptu meeting notwillingly accepted. In short, as client, this hasbeen one of the most complex but easiestprojects I have done for the college, they haveturned my old concrete eyesore into whatappears to be a brand new building, I couldn’tbe happier.”

PROJECT SCOPE Included insulated aluminium rainscreenovercladding (some with integral louvres andfitted plenums), timber/aluminium compositehigh-performance windows, new glazedentrance screen and new main entrance canopy,new aluminium glazed doors at ground floorlevel and overcladding of plant rooms.

To comply with grant-funded capital spendingrequirements, the College needed to minimisethe lead-in to commencement on-site. Theyachieved this by early appointment of d+bfacades and applying rate transposition fromcomparable projects enabling significant timeand cost savings.
