    DYNAMIC TOWER

    Dynamic skyscrapers are a new concept with the potential of creating a revolution in theconstruction field with its energy efficient operation and the new method of construction. David Fisher

    an Italian-Israel architect based in Florence is the man behind this upcoming architecture marvel. Ever

    since wandering man began to settle down, he began planning and designing shelter to protect him

    from the forces of nature. Even though the forms of the dwellings drastically changed with time in terms

    of materials consumed and techniques employed in construction we still depends on static homes

    positioned in relation to the topographical and directional constraints. Here comes the relevance of

    rotating buildings which helps the inhabitants to enjoy natural landscape and other facilities throughout

    the day from a single room. In the words of Dr. David Fischer one can watch sun rise and sun set from

    the same room

    Dynamic architecture is not at all a new word for us and we have a couple of rotating buildings

    scattered around the world right from 2001 with the completion of Suite Vollard in Brazil, worlds first

    rotating building. But a building which rotates moves and constantly changes shape is indeed a new

    concept. The Dynamic Tower also known as Da Vinci Tower or rotating tower proposed by David Fisher

    an Italian-Israel architect based in Florence consists of 80 floors capable of rotating individually thereby

    constantly changing its shape. That is the building never looks the same again in its life time. David fisher

    was inspired to design the tower during his visit to a friends top floor apartment where he had the

    panoramic view of the Hudson River and he wanted to make the feeling accessible to more people and

    he designed the tower.

    This $700 million building to be come up first in Dubai will be 1,380 feet (420 m)tall, apartments

    will range in size from 1,330 square feet (124 square m), to villas of 12,900 square feet (12,900 square

    m) complete with a parking space inside the apartment. It will consists of luxury hotel, residential

    apartments, and the top 10 floors will be for luxury villas.

    Each individual floor of the skyscraper is capable of rotating slowly based on voice command

    issued by the habitants. A voice recognition system will help the habitants to customize when and to

    what extend the building should rotate. It will rotate a maximum of 6m (20 feet) per minute or one full

    rotation in 90 minutes. As like its predecessors rotation of the building consumes power and the only

    difference is that the building itself generates power by means of wind turbines and solar panels to

    meet the complete power requirements of 5 such skyscrapers.

    The dynamic tower is quite different from its rotating and non rotating counterparts in the

    method of construction and in the energy efficient operation.

    METHOD OF CONSTUCTION

    Even though real estate and construction is the leading sector in the world economy it still

    employs primitive construction methods in spite of the technical advancement in various fields.

    Construction of multistoried buildings is even today done on sites which demands thousands of workers

    at work site. In this context Dynamic Tower is far ahead, it uses Fischers method of construction where

    each storey of the building is prefabricated in industries arrives at work site ready for quick and efficient

    installation. The only component being built in the site is the skinny centre core which is strong enough

    to hold the floors in space and will contain the buildings elevators which transpor t people and cars right

    to their doors. To this core the prebuilt units are hooked mechanically.

    Each floor will be made of 12 modules, and each of them would be constructed separately,

    equipped with full air conditioning systems, plumbing and electrical systems. Bathroom, kitchen and all

    other fixtures and finishes including furnitures will also be pre installed within the modules and will be

    customized according to the requirements. This means about 90% of the skyscraper will be

    manufactured at a factory and then shipped and assembled in the construction site. This strategy will

    allow for faster construction taking about 22 months which is way shorter than a building of similar size

    constructed employing traditional technique. It also requires far less workers, almost 680 both on site

    and in industry whereas the traditional method require up to 2000 workers on the construction site.

    ENERGY SUSTAINABILTY

    Energy sustainability is been brought about in this building in two ways, by effectively trapping

    renewable energy resources and by reducing embodied energy of the building

    Renewable energy resources

    Wind turbines are housed in between each consecutive floor to trap the wind and to convert it

    into usable energy. Thus there will be altogether 79 turbines in this 80 storied building capable of

    producing 1,200.00 kilowatt hour of energy. In addition to this solar panels placed on top of each floor

    and the roof together produce surplus energy. The turbines and panels are placed in a way it does not

    destroy the aesthetics of the tower.

    Embodied energy

    Embodied energy refers to the non renewable energy consumed by all the processes associated

    with the production of a building, from the acquisition of natural resources, manufacturing of materials

    and transportation, assembly, construction and deconstruction costs. Since dynamic tower is a

    completely industrial product it reduces construction time, labourers involved and dramatically cuts

    building costs. As assembling of individual units is the only activity done on sites it results in a clean and

    healthy construction environment for workers, it avoids loading and unloading of materials, working of

    machines on sites, waste, noise and pollution. Since its a factory made product each unit can be

    monitored carefully and strong units can be made with minimum consumption of energy and time.

    This prefabricated building will also be easy to maintain and repair, the buildings maintenance

    facility, type of material used and the quality control employed will also make them more durable than

    any other structure.

    The construction of the building is still in the planning stage, anyhow the erection of this

    spectacular architecture is going to be another landmark in construction industry and the world is

    eagerly waiting for this wonder to happen.
