He unveiled the RI theme during the open- ing plenary session of the 2013 Interna- tional Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, the annual training event for incom- ing district governors. Burton said the July launch of The Rotary Foundation’s new grant model, Future Vi- sion, makes it an exciting time to be a Ro- tarian. He said the new grant model, which has been used by about 100 pilot districts since 2010, represents a new era for the Foundation, and will help Rotarians get excited about Rotary’s ability to change lives. “It takes everything that is wonderful about Rotary and raises it to a new level — by encouraging bigger, more sustainable pro- jects while providing increased flexibility for local projects, both of which address the needs of the community being served,” he said. Burton emphasized that the job doesn’t end when a new member joins: “It’s not done until that new member is engaged in Rotary, inspired by Rotary, and uses the power of Rotary service to change lives.” POSTAL ADDRESS P O Box 123 Drysdale Vic 3222 www.DrysdaleRotary.org.au Portarlington Miniature Railway Rotary Club of Drysdale Art Show Rotary Drysdale PRESIDENT Bruce Van Every Ph 5251 2694 [email protected] SECRETARY Kaye Beresford Ph 5251 5480 [email protected] TREASURER Brian Knights Ph 5251 5381 [email protected] R I PRESIDENT Sakuji Tanaka DISTRICT GOVERNOR District 9780 Helen Trigg ASSISTANT GOVERNOR Tony Stewart BULLETIN EDITOR Colin Harding [email protected] DUTY ROSTER DUTY ROSTER DUTY ROSTER DUTY ROSTER 3rd June 3rd June 3rd June 3rd June 10th June 10th June 10th June 10th June 17th June 17th June 17th June 17th June Chair J.Casey G.Allison Room Duties C.Harding C.Bartlett K.Beresford No G.Wise Attendance K.Stasinowsky Meeting S.Van Every Heads & Tails I.Stasinowsky O.Patrian Welcome J.Brumley C.Eagleson THE WEEKLY BULLETIN OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF DRYSDALE 3RD JUNE 2013 Club No 18227 Chartered 14/5/1975 Rotary Club of Drysdale Our next meeting will be held at Our next meeting will be held at Our next meeting will be held at Clifton Springs Golf Club on Monday 3rd June Clifton Springs Golf Club on Monday 3rd June Clifton Springs Golf Club on Monday 3rd June 6:00 for 6:30 pm 6:00 for 6:30 pm 6:00 for 6:30 pm Laurie Blick Laurie Blick Laurie Blick Bellarine First Aid (Partners Invited) Apologies to Ivan Stasinowsky by Noon Sunday Apologies to Ivan Stasinowsky by Noon Sunday Apologies to Ivan Stasinowsky by Noon Sunday EMAIL: Ivan on [email protected] Ph: 0418107743 0418107743 0418107743 0418107743 A0017079H THE FOUR WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do IS IT THE TRUTH? The Adrian Mannix Award night was opened by Debra Winter from Springdale who went on welcome The Presidents of the Rotary Club of Drysdale, Portarlington-Drysdale Lions and representatives of the Mannix family in Gary Mannix and Barbara Moody.

Debra spoke about the history of the award.

The Adrian Mannix OAM Community Ser-vices Award was set up one week after Adrian Mannix passed away on 24th Febru-ary 2001.

On the following Monday night the Drys-dale Rotary Club held a one minute silence in his Adrian’s memory. A brief resume of his life work and achievements was given by long time friend Rotarian Bernard Filbay.

The Rotary Community Services portfolio was being organized by Shane Coles. One of his aims was to develop an award to recognize those people in the Bellarine area who worked hard for their communi-ty, voluntarily for no recognition.

Twelve years ago a Committee was formed with the Rotary Club of Drysdale, the Lions Club of Portarlington/Drysdale, and Springdale Neighbourhood Centre.

With the support of these clubs the Adrian E Mannix OAM Community Services Award was established to recognize ‘real ‘real ‘real ‘real people doing real community work’.people doing real community work’.people doing real community work’.people doing real community work’.

The Award is $500 cheque to a worth-while charity or a not-for-profit organiza-tion of the winner’s choice, plus a trophy as a reminder of this recognition.

The rules of the Award specify that the community service carried out must be in the area of the North Bellarine communi-ties of Drysdale, Portarlington, Clifton Springs, Murrudoc, Curlewis, St Leonards and Indented Heads. And the nominee

must be a resident of the area.

Barbara Moody Adrians partner then spoke about briefly about Adrian.

Anne Brackley spoke about the award and then announced that the winner this year was John Brumley.

He used welding skills on the rails and cabinetmaking skills to build the signal box. He has spent endless hours working at and maintaining the miniature trains. In recent years he has organized the Train Party program for birthday parties. Not only does this initiative provide a tour-ist and recreational facility in the northern Bellarine it has raised funds for charitable works.

He was also the President of the local organizing committee formed to initiate the first Men-tal Health Forum in 2004. The forum was to increase awareness of mental health in the area. Mr Kennett and 700 people at-tended this first forum which was beyond everyone’s expectations proving the need for support in this emerging area of health education.
