BOKANTÉ //October 2018
BOKANTÉ means “exchange” in Creole, the language of vocalist MALIKA
TIROLIEN’s youth growing up on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
Joining forces with two-time Grammy award-winning guitarists MICHAEL
LEAGUE, CHRIS MCQUEEN, and BOB LANZETTI (all from Snarky Puppy),
percussion legend JAMEY HADDAD (Paul Simon, Sting), pedal and lap steel
virtuoso ROOSEVELT COLLIER (Lee Boys, Karl Denson), and unplaceable
percussionists ANDRÉ FERRARI (Väsen) and KEITA OGAWA (Banda
Magda, Yo-Yo Ma), BOKANTÉ comes together to create a diverse ensemble
rich in groove, melody, and soul.
“[Snarky Puppy] is one of the more ver-satile groups on the planet right now.”

BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA // Open Avails 2017 - 2018
The BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. The group helped to define those traditions in 20th century and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st. The band has persevered through seven decades to become one of the most recognized and decorated roots music groups in the world.
“The Blind Boys of Alabama have little left to prove. In nearly 75 years of raising their voices to the heavens, the Blind Boys have set the standard for gospel greatness.” //WASHINGTON POST

ORAN ETKIN //Open Avails
ORAN ETKIN became entranced by Louis Armstrong’s soulful sound, swing and melody. Armstrong inspired Etkin to express himself through music with honesty and integrity. Etkin’s search led him to Benny Goodman, also raised in a Jewish immigrant home and also trans-formed by hearing Armstrong. Described as “a composer of eminent individuality” by his mentor Yusef Lateef, Etkin, like Goodman, calls upon the classical, Jew-ish and African-derived music traditions to discover the world in himself and explore it through his music. Also avail-able are Etkin’s TIMBALOOLOO concerts and workshops for kids and parents. The workshops feed into the concerts and back again.
“Sets a new standard for world music in the decade of the 2000s.” //ALL MUSIC GUIDE

JON CLEARY // November 2017 Spring 2018
The release of the Grammy-winning GoGo Juice, returns New Orleans funk
master JON CLEARY to writing and recording the original material that has
brought him critical acclaim since his 1999 album, Moonburn. Cleary’s thirty-
five years of intensive hands-on work on the Crescent City scene has made him
a respected peer of such New Orleans R&B icons as Dr. John and Allen Tous-saint. While thoroughly steeped in the
classic Crescent City keyboard canon – from Jelly Roll Morton to Fats Domino to Art Neville, James Booker, and beyond – Cleary uses that century’s worth of pia-
nistic brilliance as a point of departure to forge his own unique and eclectic style
wrapped in such far-flung influences as ‘70s soul, gospel music, funk, Afro-
Caribbean (and especially Afro-Cuban) rhythms and more.
“New Orleans is in good hands with this expat.” //RELIX

MARTIN HAYES DUO & QUARTET // New CD Fall 2018October/November 2017 Spring/Summer 2018 Feb/March 2019
MARTIN HAYES and DENNIS CAHILL are the undisputed masters of Irish music around the world. THE MARTIN HAYES QUARTET expands on the musical ideas of the duo by exploring sonic possibili-ties with the inclusion of the deep mellow sound of the bass clarinet, played by the virtuosic DOUG WIESELMAN, and the rich warm tones of the viola, played by the brilliant LIZ KNOWLES.
“Martin Hayes speaks with the soul of a poet...a remarkable artiste.”// THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT [IRELAND]
LIZZ WRIGHT //new Quintet CD 2017 /
November 2017 February/March + Summer 2018
Lizz Wright was a preacher’s kid and she sang during most services. It is there,
deep in the joy of ministry, that one can find the roots of the voice and spirit that
so captivates listeners. With peculiar focus, she seamlessly weaves through
the genres of gospel, jazz, folk, pop, and blues, handling them like colors on a palette. Ultimately it is the voice, the
stories told and the call to connect that transcends categorization and stirs her
audiences.
“[This is] her most vibrant performance to date: controlled yet as swinging,
prodding and persuading as the lyrics and melodies demand.” // THE WALL

RICHARD BONAMANDEKAN CUBANO //New Richard Bona CD 2018 October/November 2017 Winter/Spring /Summer 2018
When bassist/vocalist RICHARD BONA arrived in New York in the mid-’90s some outrageously hinted that Bona was the second coming of Jaco Pasto-rius. He soon rebuffed the comparisons and showed his own true voice. His latest project is his spirited Afro-Cuban group Mandekan Cubano which melds together a variety of roots music, from Africa, South America and of course Cuba. Bona’s seven-piece band includes two percussionists making this celebration ripple and soar.

RUTHIE FOSTER //New CD Spring 2017 // October 2017 March/April 2018
With a chapel-bred bravado trained on the works of powerful women such as Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, RUTHIE FOSTER’s sound has grown into an inspired blend of blues, folk and gospel. Ruthie’s artistry and creative output have garnered accolades. Outside of her 2010, 2012 and 2014 Grammy nominations, Ruthie won Austin Music Awards (2007, 2008 and 2013 Best Female Vocalist), Blues Music Awards (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), Living Blues Awards (2010 Critics’ Poll Winner, a 2011 nominee for Blues Female Artist of the Year and 2013 Critics’ Poll Winner for Blues Artist of the Year).

INDOPAK COALITION // Winter/Spring 2018
Synthesizing jazz with the improvised musical forms of South Asia, Mahan-
thappa’s INDO-PAK COALITION tran-scends any preconception of Indo-jazz
fusion. Led by alto-saxophonist Mahan-thappa, this trio with Pakistani-Amer-ican guitarist Rez Abbasi and first-call
percussionist Dan Weiss has turned heads internationally in both the jazz and
world music scenes. Rudresh has been named alto saxophonist of the year for
three years running in Downbeat Maga-zine’s International Critics’ Polls (2011-
2013) and again in 2015 and 2016, and for five years running by the Jazz Jour-
nalists’ Association (2009-2013) and again in 2016. He won alto saxophonist
of the year in the 2016 JazzTimes Maga-zine Critics’ Poll.
“…a trio equally grounded in folk tradition and jazz improvisation, proposes a social
pact as well a musical ideal.” //THE NEWYORK TIMES

KURT ROSENWINKEL’S CAIPI // new CD Spring 2017 / October/November 2017 Winter/Spring 2018
KURT ROSENWINKEL’s career spans almost three decades collaborating with dynamic peers like Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, and jazz elders like Joe Henderson, Paul Motian and Gary Bur-ton. Rosenwinkel’s indelible mark in music is steeped in the rich and deep traditions of jazz, springing off of the shoulders of such vital underpinnings to elevate his own art to new heights, evolving the language in a way no other guitarist has since his arrival. Kurt’s new project was inspired by Brasil’s music, rock and jazz, and yet is a highly personal while still genre-bending. The sextet is called Caipi, as in Caipirinha, Brasil’s strangely intoxi-cating drink.
“Kurt Rosenwinkel is a genius—he really is.” // ERIC CLAPTON
