Welcome to the 2018 NMSA Conference!

What a year it has been for the NMSA. With historic involvement in the Annual Naturopathic Medicine Week Challenge, inspiring chapter events at multiple campuses, and development of Fellowships that have not been offered in years, the NMSA is incredibly excited to kick off the 2018-19 year with enthusiasm! This is our second year co-locating with the AANP and we couldn’t be more excited to commune with our professional colleagues and mentors.

This year’s theme of Roots to Shoots comes from a deep introspection into the history and practice of naturopathic medicine. We have all been involved in the discussions around practice scope, vitalism, and primary care. This year’s conference serves to open these conversations further with multiple sessions on how ND’s work in the realm of oncology, how ND’s may practice to the fullest scope without compromising their core beliefs, and how naturopathic medical students can connect with and foster relationships with other students going into practice in integrative medicine.

With that in mind, the most important part of this week is developing relationships! This year, our conference will hold the 11th Annual NMSA Cup where students from all schools will compete for the coveted Cup trophy and join each other in our preparation for licensing exams. Our student social event Thursday night will bring the North American naturopathic medical students together for a bit of rest and relaxation. Finally, with the AANP right next door, students will have the unique opportunity to network with leading industry professionals to market them-selves for preceptorships and maybe even future job opportunities!

Over the next few days, take some time to join us in starting the day off mindfully with morning yoga, explore the exhibit hall to see what companies will help you with your patient base, cheer on your classmates at the Cup ses-sions, and don’t forget –– have fun! I am so excited to share with you the next few days of learning, networking, and developing plans for the coming year. It’s going to be amazing!
