Message From Pastor Eric

Beloved,

It’s a joy to write this article for our February Chronicle. As you know, we’ve been through

some significant staff changes as of late. We are sorry we did not have a January edition.

Pam Hickey is our new Administrative Assistant and she is the one who will ensure the pro-

duction and delivery of the Chronicle to your eyes. But, we hope you will continue to submit

articles for the monthly newsletter on the 15th of the month knowing there will continue to

be a Chronicle for them to appear. Pam has courageously and magnificently started serving

in this role during THE busiest time of the Church year for an Administrative Assistant –

Christmas and Annual Meeting. Now, that things are becoming increasingly stable as Pam

learns, the Chronicle will reappear regularly!

I am hoping articles will be submitted so we can share about our service to God through

Brookside Church

Brookside 101 - February 25th

Have you been visiting Brookside and wanted to learn more? Are you considering church membership? Then join us in the Manning House of Brookside Church at 11:30 for "Brookside 101" to learn more about Brookside. We hope you will join us!

Already a Brookside member? This is a great fellowship event to help others connect with this congregation. So, please do invite friends, family, and others to attend. Please RSVP by February 20th by calling the Church Office x100 or e-mailing [email protected]

God’s Children Facing Deportation All individuals are God's children, no matter their race,

creed, and country of origin

Are you aware of Maranatha Indonesian UCC, a local Christian church in the seacoast area whose many members fled religious persecution, and have been threatened with deportation after years of com-munity participation in NH? Or that there has been a recent District Court ruling to call a temporary halt to the deportation of local Indonesians?

Are you familiar with someone in your community who has been impacted by the issues of immigra-tion or potential deportation swirling in and out of headline news? Do you wonder what one person could possibly do in the midst of a resurgence of angry and hate filled rhetoric and public policy?

The Brookside Mission Outreach Ministry has set Sunday, February 11 as a day to focus on sharing amongst ourselves some ideas of how we should and can respond to the many needs of individuals and families who have immigrated to or sought refuge in our country and our communities.

M/OM is currently in conversation with the New Hampshire Immigrant Solidarity Network and the International Institute of New England to have these organizations help support and facilitate our discussion and our decisions for action and participation in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

"If you get to know someone with an open case you could write a letter of support for them which could help persuade a judge to decide in their favor." "You can hold individuals facing deportation in your prayers on an ongoing basis" "You could become better educated about what our faith and our denomina-tion say about welcoming the strangers and aliens among us."

Please plan to join us Sunday morning at Brookside on 2/11/2018 for this important opportunity. More information will be forthcoming through our Sunday bulletins and weekly social media offerings.

Men Are Invited to “No Green Bananas” This group of retired Brookside men meets on the 1st and 3rd

Tuesdays of the month at 9 am at Blake’s Restaurant (Maple & Webster Streets) to enjoy breakfast and discussion. Join them on Tuesdays, February 6 & 20 for good food and company. For more info, call Herb Pence, 624-1287.

Church School News

December17th we finished the Unit, “Celebrate the Birth of Jesus.” Bob Boisvert taught Storytelling, Jean

Dickson taught Mission, and Jim Peace and his daughters Jillian and Mary taught cooking. Christmas Eve and

New Year’s Eve there were no workshops.

On January 7th we started a new Unit, “Jesus and the Children.” This Unit focuses on the familiar story of

Jesus and the children that is found in Matthew 19: 13-15 where the disciples try to keep the children away

from Jesus. This Unit emphasis that children have important gifts to share here at church and in the world.

In the first session of this Unit Katy Martey taught Art, Rand Cayer taught Games, and Brian Brady taught

Spiritual Practices. In February we will have Storytelling, Science and Cooking workshops. The last week of

February there will be a multi-age workshop.

Next Loaves and Fishes Offering on February 4

Remember our monthly Loaves and Fishes offering on the first Sunday of every month. Please bring non-perishable (and non-expired) food items to worship that day, or leave them in the special collection boxes in the back hallway during the week if you won’t be in worship. Personal-size toiletry items are also welcome. All donated items are put to good use by New Horizons via their soup kitchen, food pantry and shelter.

Delegation from Zimbabwe coming October 2018

The Ukama Mission Group of the New Hampshire Conference UCC is planning to bring a delegation from

the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe to NH in October 2018. A local church may host a delegate from

its partner congregation in Zimbabwe. Brookside has a chance to be involved as a host, or in a joint

venture with one or more local congregations to host a delegate from Zimbabwe.

Look for more information posted around the church, or on the bulletin boards

in Fellowship Hall, or talk with Jean Dickson. Or you may send an email inquiry to

Richard Slater at [email protected] or Kathy Blair at [email protected]

UCC Women's Conference

The New England Women's Celebration takes place every 4 years. The purpose of Celebra-

tions is to reach women in the pews and involve them in learning and sharing faith beyond

the local church and Conference setting. It is organized by women from United Church (UCC)

congregations across New England. The event is April 6-8 in Portland, Maine. For more information, please

visit http://www.uccwomenscelebration.org to register.
