Who can live on campus?
All SUNY Cortland students are eligible to live
on campus.
Housing is only guaranteed to current freshman and
sophomore students required to live on campus.
Current juniors and seniors who meet the RSP
deadlines can also select a room.

Log in to myRedDragon, go to Student Tab
Scroll down to Residence Life and Housing section
Select “Housing Process and Information”
You will be redirected to The Housing Director

Read and sign Room and Board License
Fill out and submit RSP Questionnaire

Step Three: Complete Roommate Profile (optional)
Select “Set Up Roommate Profile” and go to “Roommate Profile”
Decide to make your profile public or private
Select contact preference and fill out contact information
Complete My Profile (follow appropriate guidelines)
This is your opportunity to give any information you would like prospective roommates to
know about you!

Step Four: Select Your Roommate(s)
Select “Housing Information” and go to “Roommate/Suitemates”
You will have the option to search for roommates by…
Last Name, First Name, or Email (Simple Roommate Search)
Matching answers to Roommate Match Questionnaire (Advance Roommate Search)
Request your roommate (note: they must confirm your request)
ONLY INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THEIR RSP FORM WILL BE PART OF THE
SELECTION PROCESS

Step Five: Select a Room
View your time ticket and process(s)
If you are in a group process, we recommend that the person with the earliest
time ticket, select your room/suite
Choose your room by going to “Select a Room/Suite”
Only rooms eligible in your selection process will be available.
For example, if you are selecting during the Gender Inclusive Housing
process, only Gender Inclusive suites/apartments will be viewable.
Confirm your housing assignment by viewing your assignment on the main
screen.

Step Five: Select a Room (Time Tickets)
Credit Hours
Each student’s credit hours toward graduation as of December 2015, will
determine your time ticket to select a room. Students with the most credit
hours choose first.
Dean’s List Points
An extra three points will be added to your total credit hours for each
semester you have been on the Dean’s List at SUNY Cortland.
DeGroat residents Fall 2015
An extra three points will be added to your total credit hours if you lived in
DeGroat Hall in Fall 2015

Step Five: Select a Room- troubleshooting
There are no more suites/apartments available…
If you are closed out of suites and need to select a standard double: remove all
members of your roommate group except for the one person you want to share a
room with.
I do not have a roommate…
You will not be able to select a double room and will only be able to select from
available singles or choose to be auto-assigned by Residence Life and Housing.

Step Six: Pay your Room Deposit
Room deposit of $150 is due by Friday, May 13, 2016
You can pay this at any time during RSP- you don’t have to wait to
choose a room first
Pay $150 either…
Online by logging into myRedDragon, scrolling to Residence Life and Housing, and selecting
Pay Room Deposit Online (recommended)
At the Student Accounts Office, 3rd floor Miller Building.
Room Changes
Beginning April 6; once a week (every Wednesday) until May 12
Once you have chosen a room, you will be allowed to change your room once a
week
Once a change is made you will have to wait until the following Wednesday to
change it again
You may only change your assignment
Your roommate must change theirs

Swap Days: June 22 and 23
If you decide that you want to change your room assignment
after May 12, you can do so during Swap Days.
Swap Days occur June 22 and 23.
You can only change your assignment.
After Swap Days, your room assignment will be permanent

DeGroat Hall
DeGroat Hall will be open in Fall 2016 and is available for
room selection.
DeGroat will offer double and single rooms. The 3rd floor will be
mostly singles that can be selected during RSP.
Students who lived in DeGroat during Fall 2015, will be guaranteed
a space in DeGroat if they so choose.
Fall 2015 DeGroat residents will also get three extra housing
points.

Whitaker Hall
Whitaker Hall will be closing at the end of Spring 2016.
It will no longer be a residence hall.
Renovations will begin next year and the following departments
will be moved to this location.

Full Group Selections
Students with roommate groups of four or six may be
eligible to participate in Full Group selection process
A certain percentage of suites, quads, and apartments will only be
available to those with a full group.
All other suites will be available during regular room selection
This does NOT guarantee that all Full Groups will get a
suite/quad/apartment

Triple in a double room
Returning students now have the option to live in a tripled
room if they so desire.
When filling out your RSP Form, select Yes to Question 29
Select two other roommates
Rooms that can be tripled will be available during the selection process
This option is only available in low-rise buildings
Students will receive a 25% room rebate at the end of each semester
What if I want to live with an
incoming new student?
Returning students who wish to live with a new student
can do so, but will not be able to select their own room.
When filling out your RSP Form, select Yes to Questions 18 and 19.
Once the new student is officially enrolled in the college, Residence Life
and Housing will assign you both to a room.
Your assignment can be viewed on The Housing Director

Can off-campus students go
through RSP?
Yes, any current SUNY Cortland student will be able to go
through room selection.
Complete all required steps (RSP Form, pay your deposit, etc.)
Any off-campus student wishing to move on campus after room
selection is completed, will have to fill out a wait list form
This form can be found on the Residence Life and Housing
website

Can I move off campus
mid-year?
If you choose to live on campus (especially juniors and
seniors), do not assume that you will be released from your
housing for the Spring 2017 semester.
When signing the Room and Board license, you are
agreeing to live on campus for the full academic year.
The only automatic expectations are for those students with
academic reasons to leave (i.e. student teaching, graduating,
study aboard, etc.)

What if I do not complete my
RSP Form?
A new form will be available for you to complete
after March 23
You will not be able to choose your own room;
Residence Life and Housing staff will assign you

What if I do not pay my
deposit?
You will be removed from your room
Once your deposit is paid, you will be assigned to
an available room
If you are experiencing financial hardship and
unable to pay your deposit please visit the
Financial Aid office, located 2nd floor Miller
Building, as soon as possible and
before the deadline.

Room Deposit Waivers
Room deposit waivers will be provided to
RHA Executive Board members
CURE students
EOP students
Residence Life and Housing student staff members in
good standing
You must submit the waiver to the Student Accounts
Office by Friday, May 13 by 4 p.m.
Current on campus students
You need to either complete the….
RSP Form- if you plan to live on campus next year
Release from Housing Form- if you:
are graduating
are student teaching
have met your housing requirements
Students studying abroad in the Fall but plan to live on campus in
the Spring must first complete the RSP form and then the Release
from Housing Form

Harassment Policy
Harassment
◦ When a student selects a room, they have the right to not be harassed
by any other student who may have wanted that room. Please note
that any harassment of another student, including sending abusive or
threatening messages by any means, will be processed through the
student conduct office and could result in the forfeit of your on-
campus housing assignment (according to the College Code B-10–
Electronic Use Policy and C-1-Harassment).

Room Consolidation
Residence Life and Housing reserves the right to reassign any
students without a roommate. Students are consolidated
within the residence hall they chose during RSP.
Consolidation usually takes place during the summer as
spaces open up.
