This term we are learning about the author, Nick Bland. We read a book called ‘The

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, Senior Choir Performance Our Senior Choir performed today at the Rockingham Choir Festival which was held at Rockingham SHS. The students were positive role models for our school and are to be congratulated for the commitment towards their performance. Thank you to Mrs Nurse, Mrs Taljaard, and Mrs Cross for all your work in preparing our students for the performance. Good Standing Policy As part of changes to our school behaviour processes, Endeavour Schools will be introducing a Good Standing policy from the start of next term. At the start of each term all students will start with Good Standing. All school based behaviour consequences will be allocated specific values and once a student reaches 20 points they will lose their Good Standing. When a student loses their Good Standing they will be ineligible to be involved in specified school events (e.g. behaviour rewards days, representing the school in sports/ choirs etc) as determined by the Principal until they have regained their Good Standing. A student who has lost their Good Standing will be required to demonstrate the Endeavour Schools’ positive behaviour expectations for 10 school days in order to regain it. A letter will be sent home next week to all families outlining this policy in more detail. We must remember that the majority of students who come to school do demonstrate the required positive behaviour expectations. I would like to thank the staff for their work in developing this policy and the school board for their support and endorsement of it. School Accreditations The school has recently renewed two of its accreditations – Water Wise and Waste Wise. This means our school is recognised for adopting practices that assist us to minimise our water use and the generation of waste that ends up in landfill. We all have a role to play in promoting environmentally sustainable practices to help our future generations. We encourage families to take some time this fortnight to discuss with our children ways they can reduce their water use and waste generation. The planet will thank you for it! Road Safety With the recent wet weather, we encourage all parents and community members to be extra careful when driving around the school site. Please be patient, be mindful of young children in the area and factor in additional time when arriving / departing. We had a near miss at the crosswalk on Endeavour Drive on Monday and want to ensure everyone gets home safely.

Education Support Centre

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Next Friday, 21st June, we are having our Term 2 Walk/Ride to School Day and we will be looking forward to your support with this event. We are expecting a BIG number of students and their families to be walking or riding to school on the day. We are hoping to achieve our goal of busy pathways, full bike racks and empty car bays in the school car parks! School staff will be gathering with students from 8.00 – 8.15am in 3 locations this term. One group will be waiting at Veterans Memorial Park, another group will be at Endeavour Drive park (near Cook Court) and the third group will meet students and families at bottom end of our school oval. So come along and join us if you would like to meet us for the walk or ride to school. On arrival at school there will be a very yummy and healthy fruit snack for everyone who participates. And…….. On the Walk/Ride to school day for this term you are invited to wear your favourite team ‘Jersey’ to school for the day for just the

cost of a gold coin donation! All money raised from your donations will go to support the 2019 ESC Camp which is going to be held on 7th and 8th November at Alfred Hines Seaside Home. You can choose any sporting code to represent for the day, you can wear your own sporting team’s or your favourite sporting team’s jersey – it’s up to you. I’ve got a couple of favourites so I will have to start thinking about which one to choose. (Can I go past the Eagles? Depends how they play on the weekend!). Don’t forget the date – Friday, 21st June. With the chilly weather, colds and viruses are running through the school. Please remind your child about good hygiene to prevent bugs spreading: sneeze or cough into a tissue, their hands or elbow; wash hands frequently; keep hands out of their eyes, mouth, and nose; drink lots of water and stay warm. For more information, contact your GP or local Immunisation Clinic. The right attitude is a crucial concept for children to understand, as it can affect their self-esteem, how they handle difficult situations and their overall outlook on life as they grow into adults. You can help your child better grasp this concept by engaging them in age-appropriate activities that emphasize the importance of having a positive attitude. Some ideas to try are: read positive attitude stories or movies together and talk about characters who showed positivity, talk about your child’s strengths and praise their positive attitude and you could even create a positive attitudes list for all your family members looking at the similarities and differences between family members. Why not have-a-go?

School Value in Focus – Respect

Respect means having consideration towards other people and their feelings. We demonstrate respect by

treating people fairly and with kindness.

At Endeavour Schools, the positive behaviour expectations we strive for in our students relating to respect

are:

I listen to others

I follow staff instructions

I keep my hands and feet to myself.

I share space and take turns

I use appropriate language and manners.

Maths Update

This term most classes have been working hard on making good foundations with basic facts and number patterns. By having a really good grounding in these concepts it sets our kids up for a better understanding of more complex topics. These ideas are not new, and are concepts that have been around before we were learning our tables! For example if a child knows their doubles (2 times tables) then they can double these doubles to know their 4 times tables. If a child understands that 3 + 7 make 10, then they can apply this to 30 + 70 = 100 (or even 43 + 7 gets to the next 10 of 50). We take a lot of these for granted because we know them, but most of our children are still trying to understand what 70 really means. - how often do they get to work with or see 70 of anything? A great web site to help reinforce basic skills is the ECU Tables Tester (just Google it). This site helps with drills, but if a child gets a sum continually wrong it will pop up a diagram to help the child work it out. The site helps to reinforce simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. Keep reinforcing these ideas and recalling basic facts at home - when driving, getting ready, waiting for younger brother or sister, even when you are working something out! It not only helps your child remember and assist with quick recall, but shows how these skills can be useful outside the classroom in the real world too! The Maths Committee.

Congratulations to our wonderful Senior Choir for your performance and behaviour at the Rockingham Senior Choir Festival today. You did a super job and we are very proud of your efforts. Keep up the great work. Parents are welcome to watch the Junior Choir rehearse their repertoire of songs on Friday, 28th June in the assembly area. You may bring food and drinks for a picnic to enjoy while you watch. The session is from 2:15 to 2:45pm. A reminder that next week's music lessons are Endeavour's Got Talent Concerts, for which students can perform any item of their choice in front of their class. Parents are welcome to attend their child/ren's class concert/s. On Thursday, 20th June a free concert will be held by members of the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra from 1.55 - 2.45pm for Pre Primary to Year 6 students. The focus of the concert will be the four instrument family of the orchestra. Parents are welcome to sit in chairs provided and enjoy this exciting concert. Mrs Nurse
