I heard continuous gunshots and bomb explosions. My father told me to stay foot because there is a war between the government military and the MNLF going on near the hospital where I was supposed to go and it was confirmed by the government officials over the radio. So, instead of going anywhere, I stayed at home and remain alert and vigilant and I tried to gather information about what’s going on by listening to the radio for the rest of the day. DAY 2: I woke up around 9:00am due to my mom’s phone calls. He asked me to go to Zambowood elementary school because there are evacuees coming from the affected areas. So, without taking a bath I immediately went there and volunteered myself to help them in anyway. “MY DIARY”

DAY 1:

5:00am I woke up early because I was supposed to go on my duty at the general hospital but suddenly I was alarmed by the commotion on the radio.

DAY 2:

I woke up around 9:00am due to my mom’s phone calls. He asked me to go to Zambowood elementary school because there are evacuees coming from the affected areas. So, without taking a bath I immediately went there and volunteered myself to help them in anyway.

DAY 3:

I contacted some of the nursing students here in our barangay to also help us provide medical support to the evacuees. So, we assisted the barangay health workers when some evacuees ask for consultations.

DAY 4 until October 11:

I was helping to evacuation center in any way that I could. I was helping together with the other youth in our barangay in repacking of the goods to be distributed to the evacuees. We we’re also going house to house in our barangay to gather used clothes and other donations that can be useful for the evacuees. I was also assisting the midwife when a pregnant evacuee gave birth. We also conducted fun games for the evacuees especially for the children. It is our way of helping them divert from their traumatic experiences. Every night we prepared the projector, laptop and sound system to let the evacuees watch movies as an escape from the distressing crisis. I was also busy contacting different people and organizations who might extend their help in the evacuees by providing donations in any forms.

Every day we are scared because we know that any moment of the day we can lose anyone especially because during the crisis my father still goes to work in city hall which is near the battle ground and it is also where the MNLF wanted to go to raise their flag. Each family member really went

out of their comfort zones to reach out to those in need by volunteering ourselves in the evacuation center. In order for this crisis will not happen again we must improve the security in our city so that people who have bad intentions in coming to our city will not be able to disturb the peacefulness in our city.
