Romans: Righteousness Revealed Who is Your Representative? Do you know who your representative is? I’m not asking if you know who your senator or congressional representative is. I’m not asking if you can name our head of state—that is, our president. I’m referring to Paul’s statement in Romans 5:19—“as by the one man’s disobedience the many where made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.” Adam acted as the representative for all people when he disobeyed God’s command in the Garden of Eden. As Paul taught, Adam’s “one trespass led to condemnation for all men” (Romans 5:18). His fall profoundly affected us all. You might say, “I didn’t choose Adam as my representative.” That’s true. God did and we can rest assured that God’s choice was wise and accurate. Our choices are often mistaken. I can recall my dad years ago lamenting his vote for a particular US president who represented dad very poorly when in office. Why would we think ourselves more capable of fitting choices than God? The good news is that if we are believers “in Christ” we are no longer “in Adam.” Adam is no longer our representative before God. We are not our own representatives either. That’s good since we willfully followed Adam into sinful deeds of our own! Now Christ is our representative. Christ’s obedience in life becomes our obedience! His sacrifice in death applies to and atones for our sin! His righteousness is our righteousness. God knows what He’s doing when He appoints a representative! Christ capably stands in my stead and on my behalf. I stand “in Him” righteousness before the righteous God! Who is your representative? God has appointed Christ for all who will receive Him by faith! Pastor Coye Still September 19, 2014

Romans: Righteousness Revealed Who is Your Representative?

Do you know who your representative is? I’m not asking if you know who your senator or congressional representative

is. I’m not asking if you can name our head of state—that is, our president. I’m referring to Paul’s statement in Romans 5:19—“as by the one man’s

disobedience the many where made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.”

Adam acted as the representative for all people when he disobeyed God’s command in the Garden of Eden.

I stand “in Him”

righteousness before the righteous God! Who is your representative? God has appointed Christ for all who will

receive Him by faith!

University Hills Homecoming Dear friends, Our annual Homecoming Celebration is approaching and we are preparing for a great day of worship and praise. We invite you and your family to be with us as we celebrate 89 years of ministry on Sunday, September 28th. The Glenwood Baptist Sunday School came into being on September 27, 1925. From that beginning the need for a Baptist church in that area of west Mecklenburg County was realized. On November 29, 1925 the Glenwood Baptist Church was officially organized. Rapid growth followed and in 1930 the church relocated a few blocks from the original small wooden structure to a newly built three-story brick building and became known as Enderly Park Baptist Church. In 1977 the congregation relocated to the Newell Community in a temporary facility and became known as University Hills Baptist Church. We have been ministering from this campus since September 24, 1978. We are happy to welcome to our pulpit this year Reverend Michael Douglas Buckley, pastor of Westside Baptist Church in Hinesville, GA. He and his wife of 41 years, Mary Steffek Buckley were active members at UHBC from 2004-2012. Mike was a Bible Study leader and was ordained into fulltime gospel ministry here August 12, 2012 after which time he began his ministry at Westside. Mike and Mary have two daughters and three grandchildren all living in Ohio. We look forward to welcoming them back and hearing the message God has placed in his heart for us. This year our celebration will be different from previous years. There will not be the traditional Homecoming luncheon. There will be light refreshments in the Gathering Area after the service and a time to visit and reminisce with former members and friends. The pictures and posters of our history will be on display. As most of you know from the news reports and word of mouth, our fellowship hall collapsed during the heavy snow and ice storm of February 12th this year. As we are very limited at present on kitchen and fellowship facilities, the decision was made to cancel the luncheon. We hope to be ready for a great celebration in 2015 when we celebrate our 90th anniversary. Our worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. Please plan to be with us as we celebrate God's goodness, His love, blessings and guidance on this Glenwood/Enderly Park/University Hills Church Family over these many years. Yours in Christ, R. Avery Phillips Church Historian
