CHURCH COLLECTION

We appreciate the generosity of you, our parishioners. When we have a second collection, people tend to split their usual offering between the two collections, which is under-standable given the pressure of our economic times. How-ever we rely on the first collection to keep the parish going and pay the bills. We ask that if there are two collections you include the usual amount you give in the first collection and do the best with the second if you are able to.

14th Sunday in Ordinary time July 5, 2015 Greetings to All! This July 4th weekend is celebrated with many bar-becues, people coming together and enjoying each other’s company and the best of all, the fireworks! However, do not forget the meaning of the 4th of July-the celebration of the founding of our great nation. We need to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to give us liberty and those, today, who continue to defend our rights. Today, the same holds true for our men and women in the Armed Forces who protect our freedom. No matter the age or when they served, let us always thank them for their service and reas-sure them and their families of our prayers. Christ says in the gospel today, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” In other words, they could not see past themselves that Jesus is the Messiah. As I have said about these past three Sundays, the readings are about faith. This week’s readings are telling us not to be hardened of heart-obstinate, or close-minded. One of the saddest lines in Mark’s Gospel is when Jesus said, “He was amazed at their lack of faith.” Life is filled with many challenges and we cannot afford to become heartened of heart, especially in our faith. If we were to TRULY listen to the Gospels, we would find that the message of Christ is of extreme importance. The teachings of the Church are meant for us to get closer to God. It is not for us to pick and choose what we want to follow or not follow. Jesus does not tell us we have a choice to pick and choose what we want to believe. It is all or noth-ing. It is not Cafeteria Catholicism” – picking and choosing what we want no matter if we like it or it makes us feel good. Christ died for you and me to save us from sin and death. The only choice we have is choosing God totally or not choosing God at all. That is what the gift of Free Will is. Faith means belief. Belief in the one true God. Faith is a gift from God; it is a virtue and no matter how young or old we are, the message of Christ is still the same. Has our Lord been able to penetrate your heart? How or when will you let Him enter? Allow God to enter- for all things are possible with God. Let the words of the song Open My Eyes, enable to be receivers of Christ and to go forth show the world Christ. We ask God, as we go forward to help us to see Christ in others and for others to see Christ in us. Open my eyes Lord, help me to see your face. Help me to see. Open my heart Lord, help me to love like you. Open my heart, help me to love. Open my ears Lord, help me to hear your voice. Open my ears Lord, help me to hear. I live within you, deep in Your love O Lord. I live within You, rest now in me. Amen. Buona Domenica! Good Sunday!
