La Campaña para los ministerios diocesanos (anteriormente conocida como la Campaña anual del Obispo) oficialmente se lanza este fin de semana. El tema de este año de la Campaña es “Ama a tu prójimo”. Es un vivo recordatorio, especialmente al todos enfrentar juntos la pandemia del COVID, que lo que hacemos por el prójimo en necesidad, lo hacemos por Cristo mismo. Por favor apoya esta importante causa que ayuda a tantos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas en la Diócesis. La Campaña para los ministerios diocesanos apoya la obra de nuestra Agencia de caridades católicas; la necesidad extraordinaria de atención médica de nuestros sacerdotes y de Nazareth Village, nuestra Casa sacerdotal para nues-tros sacerdotes diocesanos jubilados, las escuelas enzonas marginadas de la ciudad y la educación de seminar-istas. Reflection from Fr. Andres

Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Year A.

Readings: Isaiah 55:6-9;

Philippians 1:20C-24,27A; Matthew 20:1-16.

This Sunday Gospel passage talks about the landowner who went out at dawn to hire day laborers to work in his vineyard. I assume that most of us identify with the upset day laborers. Some people place a high value on fairness. Jesus’ statement may not fit the criteria many people may attribute to their concept of fair play. However, Jesus challenges us to step beyond our societal norms. The landowner was a generous man, and he made the choice to pay each of his laborers a full day’s wage, regardless of whether they worked 8 full hours, or only 30 minutes. He was fair to the workers who had worked a full day; he paid them the amount of money that they had agreed upon. As we know, these workers were jealous, and they grumbled. Are we ever jealous or resentful when someone else receives a gift, acclaim, or praise for an act that we think they neither deserved nor earned? Jealousy and resentment may not affect the other person; however, it does affect us. It can eat away at us and make us miserable. When we compare ourselves to others, we typically may judge ourselves as above them or below them. Both judgments damage the other person as well as ourselves. God is the one who will judge in fairness and truth. We do not have the right to judge others, and yet we do it all the time. Most of us have been gifted with abundant blessings. Today may we give thanks for the gifts and graces that we have received, and let us thank God for the many gifts we have been given. May we let go of judgment, envy, and jealousy. If we choose to do this, we will be happier and more peaceful. May God bless you. Amen.

Vigésimo Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. Año A.

Lecturas: I saías 55: 6-9;

Filipenses 1: 20C-24,27A; Mateo 20: 1-16.

El pasaje del Evangelio de este Domingo nos habla del propietario de un viñedo que salió al amanecer a contratar jornaleros para trabajar en su viñedo. Supongo que la mayoría de nosotros nos identificamos con los jornaleros molestos. Algunas personas valoran mucho la equidad. Es posible que la declaración de Jesús no se ajuste a los criterios que muchas personas atribuyen a su concepto de juego limpio. Sin embargo, Jesús nos desafía a ir más allá de nuestras normas sociales. El propietario de aquel viñedo era un hombre generoso y tomó la decisión de pagar a cada uno de sus trabajadores el salario de un día completo, independientemente de si trabajaron 8 horas completas o solo 30 minutos. Era justo con los trabaja-dores que habían trabajado un día completo; les pagó la cantidad de dinero que habían acordado. Como sabemos, estos trabajadores estaban celosos y se quejaron. ¿Alguna vez nos sentimos celosos o resentidos cuando alguien más recibe un obsequio, aclamación o elogio por un acto que creemos que no mereció o merecía? Los celos y el resentimiento pueden no afectar a la otra persona; sin embargo, si afecta a la persona quien los vive. Estos pueden devorarnos y hacernos sentir miserables. Cuando nos comparamos con los demás, normalmente nos juzgamos por encima o por debajo de ellos. Ambos juicios dañan tanto a la otra persona como a nosotros mismos. Dios es quien juzgará con justicia y verdad. No tenemos derecho a juzgar a los demás y, sin embargo, lo hacemos todo el tiempo. La mayoría de nosotros hemos recibido abundantes bendiciones. Hoy demos gracias por los dones y las gracias que hemos recibido, y demos gracias a Dios por los muchos dones que se nos han dado. Que dejemos de lado el juicio, la envidia y los celos. Si elegimos hacer esto, seremos más felices y estaremos más tranquilos. Que Dios te bendiga. Amén.
