TRANSFORMING OUR MINDS AND HEARTS!“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.”
(Romans 12:1-2) These words of St. Paul are inspiring and challenging at the same time! If we are not aware, many of us can conform to the ways of our time. We live in an age that offers us so much information all at once. I can learn how to do almost anything if I just simply look it up on YouTube! I can see what is going on in the news throughout the world by simply looking it up online. It is so easy to fill our minds and hearts with so many things! That is why it is important to pray with the word St. Paul offers us: discern. We have to ask ourselves, what am I filling my mind and heart with daily? Is it transforming? Is it good, pleasing and perfect? If not, ask God for the grace to begin anew – to start afresh on this journey, opening yourself to the goodness God has to offer you.
That is why I love this time of year the most. As you know, the new school year is approaching. Our day school begins September 8! This is always a time of new beginnings, where we can strive to learn new things and foster new approaches to living life. It was wonderful to see all the students with their families come to the supply drop off day last Sunday. Our principal, Mrs. Dougherty, is so proud of our students as they are so involved not only in the school but also in the life of the parish and our greater community. It truly is a testimony to the love of our parents and parish members who support the school in so many ways. In addition, this success is due largely to the love of our teachers. I have found that many of our dedicated teachers have spent their whole careers here and a majority of them are alumni of the school. They are faithfully giving back to the community they love. This is inspiring!
Another group of inspiring teachers I was able to meet recently were the Parish School of Religion (PSR) Catechists. This faithful group of disciples has given so many years to helping our youth grow in faith and discipleship. PSR begins September 14. We will meet on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Church for Mass and catechesis. The second Monday of the month our 8th graders will meet in Church from 7-8:00 p.m. The following weeks will be offered virtually as catechists will be connecting with the students in groups online. The entire PSR staff looks forward to working with our parents in order to make this year a great one for our students. If you haven’t signed up, go to the website under the PSR tab and sign up. It’s never too late!
And for all of you adults out there, stay connected to the different opportunities being offered here in the months ahead that will enable you to transform and renew your minds and hearts in a new way!
God’s peace and joy be with you,Fr. Jeremy Merzweiler

Our country needs so many prayers right now – from the damages done by COVID-19, the riots and the lootings, the division among people. We have so much to pray for! For nine Tuesday evenings beginning this Tuesday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m., we will have a public recitation of the Rosary and private prayers specifically for the healing of our country. Be assured social distancing requirements are in place. If you’re unable to physically be present to pray with the group, please pray the Rosary at home at the same time.

PROFOUND PEACEAlthough our Lord Jesus promises us a profound peace, one that the world cannot give, it is a struggle for most of us. Restlessness, fear, and anxiety take the place of the confidence and peace that should be experienced by God’s children. Is it even possible to find peace in a world of such uncertainty and turmoil? Come journey with our Women’s Study Group as we read and discuss Fr. Jacques Philippe’s book, Searching For and Maintaining Peace. Meetings will resume Tuesday, September 8, with optional 8:15 a.m. Mass followed by Rosary and breakfast. The remaining Tuesdays of September will be 9:15-11:00 a.m. via Zoom and possibly an option for an in-person meeting. For books, contact Michele at [email protected]. For more information contact Lori at gutbrods@att.
REST IN PEACEPlease remember in your prayers the soul Barbara Yoak, mother of parishioner Danette Gissinger. May perpetual light shine upon her and may the Lord console her family and friends.
