ROM

The project manager provides a rough estimate of the cost and timescale of the extension

He does this by comparing our initial ideas with other work he has undertaken

He cannot assess other costs that may be incurred e.g. are the sewer and drainage pipes of sufficient capacity for the extended house. If

we want this information we have to pay for a sewer and drains survey.

The project manager assessment lets us work out if our aspirations are achievable.

The project manager (from experience) suggests refinements to the plans and then we have something we think is achievable

Cost of DCA

This is the architect used by the Project Manager

Having got an idea of what is achievable an architect draws up plans.

The Project Manager arranges for the architect and other surveys and planning permission submissions

We have to pay for these servicesThe plans are passed.

DCA

We have paid for the plans, surveys and planning permission.The project manager gives a firm quote for cost and

timescales, noting contingency areas and providing detailed impacts and plans for each room and the house structure e.g.

roof, drains etc.We re-assess the viability

At this point we can change the plans etc, if the plans are altered significantly we have to go through (and pay) for the

revised drawings and further planning permissions submissions.

Project commencement

The project manager manages the extension work:- Builders- Plumbers

- Decorators- Building Regulations control

- Final sign-off

• Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM)– Requires business rules

– Xoserve assess (desktop exercise) impact to systems, compare to previous changes and assess timescale and cost range. Note: certain aspects cannot be estimated e.g. changes to IS systems capacity without incurring costs

– Used to assess if business case behind mod is still valid

– Date range is development timescale not implementation date for mod

• Detailed Cost Analysis (DCA)– Requires detailed business rules and volume usage

– Xoserve complete analysis phase of the project to determine design, development, testing and implementation activities.

– DCA provides firm costs and development timescales for the change

– If the change proceeds, the work done in the DCA is re-used

– DCA are chargeable to industry
