SHAWN TYSON HAS MANAGED many a construction
project over the years, but never one quite so interactive
as the new Health & Wellness Center that’s under way at
Rolling Green Village.
“We are working right in the middle of this community,”
says Tyson, a project manager with SYS Constructors, the
general contractor overseeing what’s a combination of
renovation and new construction at the hub of Rolling
Green’s 175-acre campus. “Every day we have residents
stop by to check on our progress—they’ve been looking
forward to the new wellness center for a long time and they
are excited to see it taking shape.”
Tyson especially enjoys chatting with the retired architects,
carpenters and other craftsmen who call Rolling Green
home—kindred spirits who have taken a special interest in
the construction process—and these conversations make
clear SYS is building not merely a structure but a dream
come true. And that dream, of course, is all about a happier,
healthier lifestyle for current and future residents.

“This is such an exciting time for Rolling
Green Village,” says RGV Health Care
Administrator Hope Hickman. “e are
eagerly anticipating the many amenities
our Health Center Expansion will provide
enabling Rolling Green Village to give the
best care to Greenville’s senior adults.”
AGING WELLThe idea of seniors quietly rocking away
their golden years has been replaced with
the ideal of a vigorous retirement designed
to help them age well.
“Today’s seniors want more quality
years,” says RGV Executive Director Eric
Dudasko, “and that can be achieved
through our dedicated emphasis on
wellness and physical fitness.”
Thus the new Health & Wellness
Center includes 10,800 square feet
of brand-new wellness space—an
aerobics activity room, cardio/strength
training room, indoor swimming pool,
wellness clinic, massage therapy suite
and physical/occupational/speech
therapy suite—as part of an overall
33,000-square-foot expansion.
Rolling Green Village is home to a
diverse group of seniors of varying ages
and varying fitness levels, too, so the
challenge is meeting everyone’s different
wellness needs. With that in mind, the
new pool will offer a range of water
aerobics, lap swimming and hydrotherapy
while the activities room will host an
assortment of group fitness classes—low-
impact aerobics, core conditioning, yoga,
tai chi, even ballroom dancing. Keiser
pneumatic strength training and cardio
equipment will fill the workout room.
And to complement physical wellness,
Dudasko says, Rolling Green plans
activities that also promote intellectual,
spiritual and emotional wellness.
Unfortunately not every senior enjoys
good health, and therefore the continuing
care community’s expansion project
includes 30 additional beds in the
skilled nursing unit with rehab suites for
temporary stays.
“This expansion allows Rolling Green
to better serve the Greenville community
with our proven quality nursing services,”
Dudasko says. “Now non-residents can
also experience our exceptional care in
their time of need.”
GOOD NEIGHBORSMcMillan Pazdan Smith provided the
architectural design for the Rolling Green
Village Health & Wellness Center while
SYS Constructors is general contractor.
“Rolling Green is an active participant
in our local community and economy,”
Dudasko explains. “For that reason, we
utilize local services whenever we can.”
Todd Malo, VP/Operations at SYS,
notes that the Greenville-based general
contractor turned around and hired
Greenville-based subcontractors, too.

“Keeping that money local boosts the Upstate economy,”
Malo points out. What’s more, he says, as neighbors SYS has a
vested interest in ensuring the project runs smoothly.
And smooth it’s been. “We are on schedule in some areas
and even ahead of schedule in others,” Tyson says, noting
there are upwards of 80 workers on site during peak times.
The project is slated for completion in November.
Residents have been extremely
accommodating of the building process. “Our
goal is to maintain everyone’s quality of life
while construction occurs around them,”
Dudasko says, noting that SYS has gone above
and beyond to keep noise, construction debris
and other disruptions to the absolute minimum.
“Safety and cleanliness have been a priority.”
Rolling Green Village offers a variety of
independent living options: six neighborhoods
of individual patio homes with one to three
bedrooms as well as apartments with choices
ranging from studios and effi ciencies to
spacious two- and three-bedroom layouts.
Also available, if needed, are assisted living,
memory care and skilled nursing services.
The vibrant campus enjoys a pastoral
setting complete with lakes, woodlands and
wildfl ower patches. Amenities include a full-
service dining room, beauty salon, library,
woodworking shop and, of course, the soon-
to-open Wellness Center. An array of available services—from
housekeeping to home maintenance to transportation and
more—make life at Rolling Green easy, while a jam-packed
activities calendar keeps life interesting.
That’s why this is THE place to enjoy a happy, healthy
retirement. v
