Where it is stated that RDC will be applied to an area, this will generally mean that RDC is applied to effective refusal.

A set of levels on a 10m by 10m grid will be taken over the area for RDC application.

Then 10 passes of RDC will be applied to the area.

At that point, the surface is back-bladed and re-compacted with a smooth drum roller by others, and a grid of levels is taken and compared to the previous set.

Effective refusal is deemed reached when the total average settlement between any set of 10 passes is less than 10mm.

Effective refusal usually takes around 40 passes of the RDC unit.
