• The first being that women were considered to be “the weaker vessel in both body and mind”• Husbands shouldn’t

expect much from their wife. • “the Husband is ever to

• Women had direct authority of the children• the mother taught her

children religious piety, manners, discipline, and affection. • Most women lost half of

their children in infancy, and twenty percent of women died in child birth.
