    Opportunities are Abound

Pharmacists occupy a variety of roles within 'linical(esearch )rgani&ations and *abs; some designing phase +trials others occupying e"ecutive, level management positions.Still other pharmacists wor! as clinical research associates in

late, phase clinical trials traveling to investigator sites tooversee compliance with research protocols and investigatingadverse drug events and safety concerns.

Some pharmacists and their companies give presentations atpharmacy schools to raise awareness of the growing careeropportunities for pharmacists in clinical research. )ften clinicalresearch o-cers or proect managers typically write protocols

choose investigators and study sites. /hey also monitor clinicaltrials collect and analy&e trial data report adverse events andwrite and publish clinical, study reports. 0ithin the clinicalresearch enterprise pharmacists often move into leadershippositions in drug, development studies. #ut because the wor! isbehind the scenes few pharmacists hear about these obopportunities.

+n addition a number of pharmacists are wor!ing asconsultants to biotechnology or small pharmaceuticalcompanies that have a promising compound and are trying todesign the $rst clinical protocol to test the compound’s safetyin human subects.

Bridging the gap in drug information

+ndividuals trained in the $eld of pharmacy are in the e"actposition to bridge the gap between the pool of gnomicinformations becoming available and the goal of personali&ed

    medications.

)n ta!ing a loo! at the pharmagnetic information there is atremendous need for clinical pharmacologists and the onlygroup that will be able to $ll that gap is pharmacists. Pharmacyhas to meet that challenge. /hey have to be better trained ingeneral science in order to do the pharmagenetics that is outthere.

1ouglas Figg a pharmacist points out that his laboratoryrecently completed a study using a 12A chip that can rapidlypro$le 3456 single, nucleotide polymorphisms in 376 genesinvolved in drug metabolism and transport using a single 12A

sample. /his vast amount of data is soon going to be availableon each patient who would interpret and modify therapiesbased on this information8

+n words of Figg it won’t be physicians. Fewer than a do&enphysicians train to become clinical pharmacologists each year.9owever pharmacists are perfectly poised to bridge the!nowledge gap between laboratory data and opportunities for

them in clinical practice are only going to e"pand.

/he profession of pharmacy has a lot to o:er

+n the race of many institutes and organi&ations CRBTech Solutions has created a niche in conferring ClinicalResearch Training.
