The simplest definition of mass communication is “public communicationtransmitted electronically or mechanically.” In this way messages are transmitted or sent to large, perhaps millions or billions of people spread across the world.
Pulse Polio
An immunization campaign established by the government of India in 1995-96 to eradicate poliomyelitis (polio) in India by vaccinating all children under the age of five years against polio virus. In India, vaccination against Polio started in 1978 with Expanded Program in Immunization (EPI). By 1984, it was successful in covering around 40% of all infants, giving 3 doses of OPV to each. In 1995, following the Polio Eradication Initiative of World Health Organization (1988), India launched Pulse Polio Immunization Program along with Universal Immunization Program which aimed at 100% coverage.

Mukti – A Smita Thackeray foundation founded in 1997 is a charitable institution registered in Mumbai having 80G certification. Since its inception Mukti Foundation has been working towards building awareness among communities and assisting the physically and emotionally challenged people with their needs The foundation organizes AIDS & Drug Abuse awareness campaigns and seminars in school and colleges on a regular basis in Mumbai to create awareness about this deadly disease among the youth.
Eye Bank Association of India
Eye Bank Association of India (E.B.A.I.) is a national organization acting as a resource center for all eye banks and organizations involved in eye donation.
The objectives of E.B.A.I. are to increase the collection of eyes, introduce uniform standards in Eye Banks and to educate the public about eye donation and prevention of corneal blindness.
Over the past few years, E.B.A.I. has been receiving support from several quarters. Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Zakhir Hussain, Pandit Hariprasad Chourasia, Tridandi Chinna Jeer Swamijee, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth and many more have endorsed eye donation.

Pros of mass media• The wide reach offered by mass media is
phenomenal. It can target a global audience.
• In terms of newspapers and magazines, it can reach a specified target group. Besides, it is easily accessible.
• Certain types of media have a loyal fan following. This would mean that an advertiser, publication or news channel would have a ready audience.
• We have the latest news and information at the click of the mouse! The Internet is such a medium that it can give many options for the kind of information required.
• Television, movies, Internet and the radio are some of the best forms of entertainment.
• It can be used for educational purposes in an effective manner.
Cons of mass media
• At times, the information reported may not be authentic from every angle. Hence, there may be a misinterpretation of a situation.
• News can be manipulated to influence the minds of the audiences. For example - a particular political party may manipulate reports in their favor, which would indicate the political control in the media.
• Difficult to make specific to local community.

• Media bias can occur due to various issues. A journalist or an editor may give personal preference to an issue.
