M i s s i o n S t a t e m e n t : The Temple Building, located inNorth Lansing’s Old Town Neighborhood, will be renovated andtransformed into a high-tech office building and cafe. This spacewill be conducive for holistic interaction between the workplace, the economy, the environment, and the community. Culture willbe supported throughout the office by creating an open, mixed, and friendly layout. Because the building has such a rich heritage, the historical integrity of the exterior will remain, and interiorelements like the stained glass windows and wood carved detailswill be preserved and revitalized with modern finishes.
The overall redesign of the building will embrace sustainability inthe site development, the building’s structural changes, andespecially in the design details. The building is not currently ADAcompliant, so efforts will be made to update the building to houseintegrated accessibility features that will allow users of all levels ofaccessibility to utilize the space easily. Because this space will be amodern workplace for a tech-company, technology will be highlyprioritized throughout, and these elements will be balanced withsoft, informal workspaces and many natural elements.
Overall this building will be designed with quality and invention inmind in order to promote the innovation and creativity of theusers, while looking out for their well-being with the integration ofimportant amenities throughout the space.

M i s s i o n S t a t e m e n t : Create a multi-functional
student center, laboratory, and office in the existing IM
Building. These spaces will serve as a cultural hub,
research, and learning center respectively for the
Kinesiology Department undergraduate, graduate
students, and faculty. Each floor will be designated for a
specific user-group to avoid confusion and maintain
ease of use of the facility. Because it is important to the
client that historical integrity of the exterior of the
building be maintained, focus will be on creating a new,
open concept interior defined by timeless industrial
fixtures, materials, and inspiring color. Emphasizing
natural lighting, movable, ergonomic furniture, and
technology access will be key to interior selections.
Lastly, accommodating all types of users is extremely
important for universal use, so ADA accessibility will be
prominent in the design.

for the MSU Dairy Store, which sells
campus-made ice cream and
cheese.

22
M i s s i o n S t a t e m e n t : Renovating the MSU Dairy Store will create a relevant
and recognizable brand that reflects and builds on the current Dairy Store design.
Rebranding will enable the expansion of the store’s locations and supply Dairy
Store products at retailers around the Mid-Michigan area. This will be
accomplished through strategic remodeling of the existing Union Building store.
The current layout will be adjusted so the employees may work with greater
efficiency. Additionally, re-adjusted and new signage will increase
communication between the employees and customers. Durable materials and
furniture will be carefully selected for the space to imply a comfortable-modern
atmosphere using earthy colors, wood, and natural light. They will also contribute
to LEED building credits and guide traffic patterns through the store. Lastly,
because of the variety of individuals visiting the space, accommodating ADA
standards will be a key consideration in the design development so that people of
all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities can easily visit the store.

About meliz rogers
Age twenty-two
It’s impossible to get to know a personsimply from a design portfolio. Aside frominterior design, I am very passionateabout sustainability, socialentrepreneurship, nature, music, andexploring.
I love to run, discover cities, and play withmy pet rabbit Lilah. Serving others hasalways been a passion of mine, whetherthat is through painting murals with inner-city kids, lending my muscles toconstruction-based service, or utilizing mydesign skills to benefit families rebuildingfrom challenging circumstances.
I would love to obtain a job with aninnovative, urban design firm, where Ican grow as a designer by familiarizingmyself with different design specialtiesand by contributing my uniqueperspective to collaborative projects.
