Its been said you cant swing a flagstick in the Rockford Region without hitting a great golf hole. But we dont just have quantity; we have quality. Golf Digest proclaimed Rockford the best mid-sized golf city in the United States thanks to our many green treasures. On top of that, green fees are as low as the cut on a bent grass fairway. From water-rich, bunker-laden championship tracks with intimidating tee shots to low-key yet fascinating municipal courses, Rockford truly is a one-of-a-kind hole-in-one where golfers of all skill levels are truly blessed.

    Golfers Nirvana Itinerary

3 day/2 night suggested itinerary for those who love to hit the greens.

Bendelow. Its a not-to-be missed, character-filled municipal course with many special holes. One things for sure: after seeing our many golf course treasures, youll be back.

OTHER LOCAL COURSES(06) Sandy Hollow Golf Course is a hilly, heavily forested and long-popular 18-hole municipal course designed by Golf Course Architect Charles Dudley Wagstaff. Good luck staying out of the trees!

    (07) Atwood Homestead Golf Courses 18 holes are well-trapped, long and beautiful. The course has lengthy tee shots from the tips, but multiple tees, making it a fair test for players of all skill levels. If you can keep your eyes off the wild turkeys and other plentiful birds, you stand a good chance of carding a good score.

Nine-hole (08) Sinnissippi Golf Course is the oldest of Rockford Park Districts five tracks. Designed by architect Thomas M. Bendelow in 1912, this hilly little neighborhood beauty has been enjoyed and loved by generations of kids and adults. Arrive early for breakfast on the porch.

Other local must-play courses include Elliot Golf Course, Macktown Golf Course and Ledges Golf Course.

3 DAy / 2 NIGHT ITINERARyDay 1: Getting into town late? Check into your hotel, then head to the (01) Golf Shack, a huge, temptation-inducing retail golf nirvana complete with a restaurant, bar and outdoor patio overlooking a covered driving range. So you couldnt say no to the new driver and you want to try it out on a nicely manicured, lighted green grass range? Head for (02) Aldeen Golf Clubs spacious Practice Centre, just five minutes away. Its big, well-targeted and inexpensive. When youre finally ready for dinner, try (04) Josef-Barbados Restaurant & Oyster Bar for delicious, freshlyprepared cuisine. But dont stay up too latetee time at Aldeen Golf Club awaits bright and early!Day 2: Enjoy a quick cup o joe and a pastry at (09) Marys Market Caf and Bakery, a Real, Original Rockford favorite. Then its just a nine iron to (02) Aldeen Golf Club, right around the corner. Golf Digest gave Aldeen a well-deserved 4 1/2 star ranking, and youll soon see why; it has narrow fairways, 14 holes have ball-sinking water hazards and the entire course has many strategically-placed bunkers. Hailed as Illinois best municipal course and a must-play in the Midwest, Aldeen is affordable as well; ranked in the top 50 golf courses under $50. Youll be tempted to play 36, but before you do, grab a satisfying lunch at (05) Noonans in the clubhouse. For dinner, enjoy steak, chicken or seafood (or all of the above), grilled with theatric flair at your own teppan table at nearby (10) JMK Nippon.

Day 3: Before leaving town, swing by (03) Ingersoll Golf Course, a heavily wooded, softly rolling, 18-hole course designed in the 1920s by Golf Course Architect Thomas M.

Ricks Picks. These Are No Cheap Tricks!Rick Nielsen, the popular leader of iconic rock band Cheap Trick, is one of Rockfords favorite hometown heroes. Rick and his Rockfordian band mates have been satisfying fans for decades with popular tunes like Surrender, I Want You To Want Me, Dream Police and The Flame. The band is widely thought of as one of the most influential in rock music history. I love Rockford. This is where my friends live, where my family is from, where I got kicked out of band in junior high. Its home, says the Clown Prince of Rock n Roll. And he has no shortage of favorite haunts, as you can see.

Ricks Picks3 day/2 night + 2 day/1 night suggested itineraries for those who trust legendary Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsens tastes.

Day 3: Keeping up with Rick is tough. He moves pretty fastbut not as fast as the racers at the (02) Rockford Speedway, some of whom Rick has sponsored for years. Since the inaugural season in 1948, the high-banked quarter mile oval has been tabbed as Mid-Americas Finest Racetrack. Its a wonderful piece of Americana. Grab a sandwich for the ride home at (09) Meads Longwood Meat Market, an old-fashioned market complete with creaky wood floors and delicious home-made sandwiches and hand-cut meats.

2 DAy / 1 NIGHT ITINERARyDay 1: Before you hit the hotel, hit two birds with one stone like Rick does: he likes motorcycles, but he LOVES diners. Visit (01) Kegel Harley-Davidson and check out the bikes, then check out the bites at the diner; try a Knucklehead sandwich or their famous H.O.G. Club. If rock is in your future, head to (11) Kryptonite Music Lounge, a music lovers dream featuring live music several nights a week. You never know who might sit in.

Day 2: For breakfast, Rick heads to the (03) Stockholm Inn (and its not because hes part-owner) for the famous Swedes with lingonberries. After Rick surrenders to his pancake craving, he might take an invigorating walk on the (10) Rock River Recreation Path or visit (07) Anderson Japanese Gardens. Afterward, hell grab a sandwich at (09) Meads Longwood Meat Market, an old-fashioned market with creaky wood floors and great food. Tell Brent Mead that Rick sent you.

3 DAy / 2 NIGHT ITINERARyDay 1: Outside of the US, Ricks favorite country is Japan, where Cheap Trick made history with Live at Budokan. So its no surprise one of his favorite spots for dinner is (12) JMK Nippon, with its delicious authentic Japanese cuisine and atmosphere. Whether you eat in the Masa Cafe & Sushi Bar or the beautiful, spacious dining room at a teppan table (complete with lively performing chefs), youll have fun. You wont go home hungry, and even if youre not a rock star, Ricks friend Mas and his staff will treat you like one. Be sure to try the Rick n Roll appetizer, named after guess who.

Day 2: For breakfast, Rick heads to the (03) Stockholm Inn (hes part-owner) for the famous Swedes with lingonberries. The friendly Scandinavian atmosphere, accommodating servers, homemade recipes and economical prices keep over 10,000 fans coming back week after week. Give Ricks Hamer guitar a strum on your way out the door for good luck. Rick likes to surrender to his love of sports. Hell catch (04) IceHog fever whenever he can, and you can see the Blackhawks direct AHL affiliate play all winter long at the BMO Harris Bank Center downtown. Come summertime, head to cozy RiverHawks Stadium where the Northern League (05) RiverHawks baseball team plays home games. Heckling the opposing team and signing autographs works up an appetite. For dinner, Rick suggests you grab a table at the timeless (08) Marias Italian Cafe in an old Rockford neighborhood. But if you dont have reservations, be prepared for a wait. Rick loves the noisy atmosphere and says, stop and see Joey in the kitchen - and tell him Ill see him soon.

    Rick Nielsen, Rockford Original.
