Yes – it’s that time of year again! As a service to PSE parents and teachers, the PTA willonce again offer the opportunity to preorder school supply kits from EduKit for the 2016-2017 school year.

All ordering is online for everything your PSE Rocket needs for the upcoming school year. Please note that even if you choose to purchase your supplies on your own, you will still

need to order grade-specific required items such as nature journals, agendas, etc., from EduKit. The supply lists aredetermined by the grade level teachers each year.

When you order through EduKit, the teachers get exactly the brand names they know your child will need in theclassroom and supplies arrive in a very neat, organized fashion for the teachers to begin the new school year.Support our wonderful teachers and save yourself the hassle of shopping for each item at multiple stores! Wenegotiate directly with the vendor to get you the best prices possible for this service, which is also tax free.

DEADLINE TO ORDER IS JUNE 24. But don’t wait, order now so you don’t forget!http://www.edukitinc.com/page.asp?id=15&schoolid=1026

School Supplies 2016-17

In order to maintain an accurate listing of volunteers who want to remain active in our schools, theCMS Volunteer Management System deactivates each volunteer profile at the end of the schoolyear. An email is sent out over the summer that asks all those who wish to be an active volunteerfor the upcoming school year to access their profiles, make sure all the information is accurate andhit the submit button on the bottom of the page. This will re-active your volunteer status and putyour name back on our approved volunteer list. Your name must appear on our list in order for you

to come in to help at school in any way.

Thank you so much for all the time and efforts you have given to PSE. We look forward to working with you again forthe 2016-2017 school year.

On Saturday May21st, 45 PSEstudentsparticipated in theNorth CarolinaScience Olympiadcompetition atUNC-Charlotte.

These students have spent the last 5 monthspreparing to take either written tests orcompete in hands-on events (like buildingand blasting off rockets!). Every Fridayafternoon after school this dedicated groupmet to learn more about 19 differentscientific topics including the weather, thehuman body, electricity, fossils, anddifferent types of animal habitats just toname a few. This could not have beenaccomplished without the tireless efforts ofover 30 parents and teachers who acted ascoaches and advisors to this scientificbunch.

PSE entered 3 teams into this year’scompetition, which consisted of 46 teamsfrom 26 different schools in the greaterCharlotte-Mecklenburg area. Thecompetition is divided into Varsity andJunior Varsity for competition and judgingpurposes. I am happy to report that ourteams did quite well in the competition thisyear.

The Varsity team won medals in 10 of the 19events and placed 8th overall as a team.

The JV teams won medals in 16 of the 19events and the JV1 team placed 4th overallas a team.

Needless to say, this team, led by Mrs.Ikoku, has achieved great success. The levelof commitment, teamwork and goodcharacter shown by our group that weekendwas amazing. Congratulations to all of ourhardworking scientists!
