ADDENDUM NO. 2
This Addendum is issued pursuant to the Instructions to Bidders and Conditions of the Contract. This Addendum serves to clarify, revise, and supersede information in the Bid Documents, and previously issued Addenda.
The bidder shall acknowledge receipt of this Addendum in the appropriate space on the Bid Form.
The Bid Date remains unchanged by this Addendum.
The following items will become part of the Bid Documents for this project:

PROJECT: Robert Poole Building #056
The following documents are in response to RFIs submitted on 4/12/18. Original RFI questions
are in black with responses in red. Additional sketches are attached to provide clarification to
some questions.
In addition to the RFI responses below, please note the relocation of the speakers in the
Collaborative Stair 224. Speakers shall be installed where indicated on Sheet TSD1.7
1. Please confirm that any AV systems in the Auditorium, Gymnasium or Dining area are not
part of this contract.
Correct, AV systems in the Gymnasium or Dining area are not part of this contract. This
school does not have an auditorium.
2. Drawing TSD5.1, Detail 7 shows the dimensions of the Extron Wall-Vault wall-mount
enclosure. The drawing shows that the enclosure’s backplate, which attaches to the wall, has
two cutouts, one for quad AC power and one for cable access. This would require two (2)
double gang junction boxes that are separated by only 1.3” on the wall at the ‘C’ locations for
the enclosure. During our walk-through, we noted several instances in which there was
considerably more separation between the junction boxes at the ‘C’ locations. Please confirm
these boxes will be properly spaced prior to installation, as no modifications can or will be made
to the enclosure backplates.
Enclosure backplates have been field modified and installed on previous projects. For
locations with more than 1.3” of separate between junction boxes, please field modify
the enclosure to accommodate the cabling. Any modifications necessary will need to be
made to the Extron enclosure in the field at no additional cost to the owner. If any
locations are found that will not accommodate the backplates after field modification,
please notify the contractor and JMT immediately.
3. Our review of the drawings have revealed about eight (8) Classrooms in which the drawings
show three (3) speakers in the classroom. While it is possible to wire a pair of speakers in
parallel to one channel and a single speaker to another channel, the volume for the speakers
wired to each channel will be different and there is no individual channel volume control, so
some speakers will be louder than others with no way to compensate for the volume difference.
Please confirm whether this number can be lowered to two (2) speakers or raised to four (4)
speakers and if which configuration should apply to which Classrooms.

4. The walk-through revealed several Classrooms on Level 1 in which the ceilings were very
high. We do not recommend installing ceiling speakers in areas with such high ceilings, as the
sound from the speakers will likely diffuse and reverberate to the point where intelligibility may
be affected. Please confirm whether ceiling speakers are still required in these rooms or if
surface speakers should be substituted and where they should be located.
Please see attached revised sheets for new speaker configurations.
5. Drawing TSD-1.1, detail 2, shows a Flex Space 121C-1 which has a Classroom system, but
no speakers are shown, presumably due to the open ceiling. Please confirm this system should
not have speakers included.
Please provide wall mounted speakers where indicated in attached revised sheets.
6. Drawing TSD-1.7 shows three (3) ceiling speakers in Theater/Dance Classroom 231. During
the walk-through, we noted that half the ceiling in this room is open and quite high and therefore
will not accommodate ceiling speakers. Please verify what speakers should be installed in this
room and where they should be located.
Please see attached revised sheets for new speaker configuration in Classroom 231.
Also note the new location of the Wireless Access Point to be installed on the drop
ceiling portion of the classroom.
7. Please confirm how many Classroom systems require surface mounted speakers instead of
ceiling speakers. The drawings only show one, but we believe there are Classrooms such as
231 and others that may be better served with surface mount speakers.

Please see attached revised sheets for new speaker configurations.
8. Due to the extreme height of some of the Classrooms, we will require man-lifts to get access
to the ceiling for cable pulls, as well as equipment installation. Please confirm that the AV
vendor should provide any lifts and that we will be able to bring them into the worksite.
Any lifts required will have to be provided by the AV contractor. A small man-lift can be
used on the first floor only as long as floor protection is provided.
9. Please confirm if the Comcast Set top boxes that the school will provide for the Video
Distribution System head-end rack are analog or digital.
The Comcast set-top box/ DTA boxes are digital standard definition cable TV boxes.
10. Please confirm the make and model of the rack for the CATV head-end for the Cable
Distribution system. Neither the Specifications nor the Drawings provide this information.
Please be advised that we cannot use a 2-post rack as specified in the drawings (TSD-5.0,
detail 2) for the video distribution head-end equipment.
Please provide a 2-post for Video Distribution rack as indicated on TSD-5.0 Detail 2.
Make and model shall be in accordance with specifications. The most recent school
projects following this design have both used 2-post racks. For equipment that cannot
be rack-mounted please provide a rack mounted shelf.
11. Please confirm whether Performance and Payment Bond should be included as part of the
base bid or if it should be included as an Add-Alt.
Performance and Payment Bond is an additional cost as indicated on the Bid Form.
