Roatan, A new way to vacation

So your boss has given you a week off work, and after this year you need the perfect vacation. So many choices. Do you pick the cheapest geataway you can find, most likely Mexico? Been there, done that. Definitely has to be hot, have perfect beaches and have a soul. Sure all the comforts are nice but a get away must have a soul. There are too many beautiful places in the world to waste your time on a plastic oasis. My boss just went to a place called Roatan, lets try that!

So a hop, skip and a flight later we arrive on the island of Roatan Honduras, a 2 hour flight from Houston. Roatan snorkeling and diving are world renowned. If you are looking to get a taste for the island, all the major cruise ships make stops there. Even if you are there for the day there are many Roatan cruise excursions to keep you entertained.

After getting settled in, you can explore the more remote beaches and villages on the island. If you are adventurous rent a car and drive out to Camp Bay beach on the far east end of the island. This white sand beach is completely secluded and offers some of the best snorkeling in Roatan right off shore. If you are adventurous but looking for something more organized try ziplining through the jungle. Do your research as quality and safety of ziplines vary greatly. No visit to Roatan is complete without getting on a boat. If you are on a limited budget, it could be as simple as getting on a water taxi and going from the West End to West Bay. If your budget is a bit bigger go deep sea fishing for the day or do an all day snorkel trip to Cayos Cochinos or Pigeon Cay. Roatan also offers many sailing and catamaran options to choose from. Most trips involve a couple of snorkel stops and open bar.

Don’t forget, you are on vacation. As the sun sets, its time for a drink at one of Roatans many bars. The best bars are found in the West End, with live music ringing through the streets on most nights. Thursday and Friday and nights are the best nights to go out in Roatan with Karoke night on Thursday and Friday the biggest night on the town. Friday nights typically start at Sundowners bar, and go from there to the Blue Marlin, after midnight the party moves to Nova. This vacation, try something different, come to Roatan!
