Childhood

• Roald Dahl was born at 32 Fairwater Road in Llandaff,South Wales.

• He was born on Sep.13, 1916.

• His parents were Harald Dahl, and Sofie Magdalene Dahl.

• Dahl’s parents moved to Wales in the 1880’s.

• He was named after Roald Amundsen, a polar explorer.

Tragedy Strikes

• In 1920, when Dahl was 3, seven-year-old Astri died of appendicitis.

• A month later, Dahl’s father died of pneumonia.

• Dahl attended : The Cathedral School.

• At the age of 8, he and his friends were caned by the headmaster after putting a dead mouse in a jar of sweets at a sweet shop.

• Dahl was then sent to several boarding schools in England.

• Dahl was made officer of King African Rifles(a multi-battalion British council regiment).

• He was married in Trinity Church,New York City.

• He was married for 30 years.

• Their names were:Oliva, Tessa, Theo, Ophelia, and Lucy.

• Oliva died at age 7.

• Theo was hit by a taxi when he was several months old and severely injured.

How He Became A Writer

• Dahl became a writer after receiving a letter from the Saturday Evening Post when he wrote about his war adventures.

• The letter said:Did you know you’re a writer?

• From then on, Roald Dahl began writing, his characters actually have the same traits as some people he knew!

• Dahl wrote 53 books in all.
