All of our students have been working hard for months to build financial literacy skills, work ethics and business management. They have been hired on mini jobs to run the 20 businesses in the city and we are thrilled for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Other than that, we are finishing up our final chapter in math about volume, learning about genetics and reviewing for our SAGE testing. We are also preparing for our International Fair on May 18th. We have already started researching and writing about our African continent. If your family would like to display any African artifacts during the fair, please contact any third grade teacher for more information. Please mark your calendars! We are so happy with the end of the year approaching. Our students have been very busy learning a lot about America’s People. We have been talking about the Mayflower which sailed from England to America with more than 100 Pilgrims onboard. They learned that the Mayflower planned to settle in Virginia, but the ship got lost during a storm. They landed at Plymouth Rock, and the Pilgrims decided to build their settlement there. While they build their homes, the settlers lived on the Mayflower. This is the star of what we called today The United States of America. The settlement grew bigger and eventually became a country. This country became a free Nation for Native Americans, African Americans, White Americans, Asian Americans, etc. The students learned about Martin Luther King Junior, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and all the Americans that helped shape our nation for good. In mathematics we have been learning about shapes and partitioning. We are also getting ready for 3rd grade by studying repeated addition (basis of multiplication) and 3D shapes with its attributes. We also learned about fractions and dividing shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths. Our graduation party will be on May 23, 2016 from 9 – 10 am, and we will be celebrating all the achievements and successes of our beloved students. We all hope everybody can participate and help us celebrate our students. Thank you for reading 20 minutes a day and reviewing math concepts everyday with our students at home. Sincerely, 2nd Grade Team

PTA News… I would like to thank Taun Wakefield for being our PTA president this year. I would also like to thank Tracy Douglas for being our treasurer and a lot of support for Taun. We are looking for some people to be involved in our PTA for next year. It is a lot of fun! Your children love to see you helping at school. It doesn’t require a lot of time. You are partners with the school to help see the students have the things they need to be successful. Please call Mrs. Kissell if you are interested in learning more!
