OVERVIEW Analysis of the demand for plastic house ware in Malawi

and neighbouring countries combined with research intoplastic injection moulding technology led to the creation ofArkay Plastics Industry in Malawi.

We were incorporated in 1997, and began production withonly four injection moulding machines and a staff of 30.We began by processing a ton of material per day.

Our first range of products – a container set, shoppingbasket and two large basins were an innovation and tookthe market by storm.

Aggressive marketing and continuous investment intomachinery led to our growth in Malawi. Our policy ofmaintaining high quality standards and dynamism inoperations has led to increased demand of our products inneighbouring countries.

By the new millennium, we had several machines and awide variety of products catering to a diverse range ofconsumers.

Investment was also made into a new factory and with thisour foray into much larger machinery and plant tomanufacture chairs and large drums.

Demand for our brand has led to the establishment offactories in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Today we employ more than 1,000 people directly in 4countries, and process more than 10,000 tons of materialper annum.

ACHIEVED CERTIFICATIONS

HOUSEWARE – ISO 9001:2008

The ISO 9000 family addresses various aspects of

quality management and contains some of ISO’s best

known standards.

The standards provide guidance and tools for

companies and organizations who want to ensure that

their products and services consistently meet

customer’s requirements, and that quality is consistently

improved.

ISO 9001:2008 sets out the requirements of a quality

management system.

This standard is based on a number of quality

management principles including a strong customer

focus, the motivation and implication of top

management, the process approach and continual

improvement.

ACHIEVED CERTIFICATIONS

PET – FSSC 22000:2013

The ISO 22000 family of International Standards

addresses food safety management.

The consequences of unsafe food can be serious and

food safety management standards help organizations

identify and control food safety hazards. As many of

today's food products repeatedly cross national

boundaries, International Standards are needed to

ensure the safety of the global food supply chain.

FSSC 22000:2013 sets out the requirements for a food

safety management system and can be certified to.

It maps out what an organization needs to do to

demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in

order to ensure that food is safe.

ARKAY ZIMBABWE

19

We started a bottle blowing Production Plant in Harare in

June 2011. By manufacturing the preforms and closures in

Malawi, we take advantage of the economies of scale to

export these semi-finished products to Harare.

Arkay Zimbabwe uses high speed technology to blow

Bottles into various shapes and sizes as required in the

Zimbabwean Market.

There is a growing market for Plastic Bottles as is

evidenced by our exports of preforms and closure to

Zimbabwe. In view of this demand we have installed

additional capacity.

Our Monthly turnover has been growing steadily, and we

hope to achieve a sales turnover of over US$3.5M in

2014.

Our policy of providing high quality PET packaging at

competitive pricing, as well as being reliable has seen us

increase our market share gradually.

Even companies that were importing their requirements

from South Africa now buy from us.

Commitment to long term has seen us winning contracts

form Lyons, Dairibord and other well established

companies in Zimbabwe.
