Hello…Goodbye
This week I will be gone in Washington,
D.C. I will get back late Friday. Thus.
there will be no daily Masses at St. Tere-
sa’s and at the nursing home.
Next Sunday, February 11th is Bingo at St. Teresa’s at
4 PM. Come and enjoy the fun. Watch Father win…
nothing. At least that’s my prediction.
In today’s Gospel we hear about Jesus early on in His
ministry. Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law. In the
evening, Jesus heals those with diseases and drives out
demons. Jesus leaves the town even though they want
Him to stay. This should be true of us. We should want
to share Jesus with others. All good and true relation-
ships cause us to reach out. Sometimes, an unhealthy
relationship can collapse on itself and cause the parties
to shut out others. A healthy self-giving relationship
causes the persons’ other relationships to become even
better. Love is diffusive of itself. True love causes us to
give, not take. This is true of both parties. If one party
only gives and the other party only takes, this is not
good. It is not healthy. It is not centered on the love of
Jesus Christ.
Jesus wants to share Himself with us. May we say yes
and open our hearts up to Him.
Pax,
Father Vogel

Faithfull practices during Lent: Fasting and abstinence are spiritual practices that are vital to the Christian life. What are the rules for fasting and abstinence in the Catholic Church?
The USCCB allows the substitution of some other form of penance for abstinence on all of the Fridays of the year, ex-cept for those Fridays in Lent. Thus, the rules for fasting and abstinence in the United States are:
-Every person 14 years of age or older must abstain from meat (and items made with meat) on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.
-Every person between the age of 18 and 60 must fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
-Every person 14 years of age or older must abstain from meat (and items made with meat) on all other Fridays of the year, unless he or she substitutes some other form of pen-ance for abstinence.
What is the purpose of Lenten sacrifice and resolutions?
Why do we fast, abstain, and make sacrifices during Lent?
“...(I) started paying attention to my relationship with God, and
realized that I literally would not survive without him. I learned
that God is not a lifeline to be used as a last resort; he is, in
fact, everything, whether things are going well or badly. One
reason we fast and abstain and make sacrifices in Lent-in oth-
er words, one reason we “do without”- is so that we can focus
on the One we cannot do without.”
from A Lenten Pilgrimage by Archbishop J Peter Sartain
“...religious fasting first of all is an act of humility before God, a
penitential expression of our need for conversion from sin and
selfishness. Its aim is nothing less than helping us to become
more loving persons, loving God above all and our neighbor as
ourselves. Its purpose therefore is the transformation of our
total being– mind, body, and spirit. Fasting cannot achieve
these aims unless its focus is on God in prayer and not on our-
selves.” The Spirituality of Fasting by Charles Murphy

We Adore You O Christ and
We Praise You Eucharistic Adoration On the following dates Our Lord will be on the altar at St.
Teresa Church waiting for you to come and spend time with Him.
"Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration with exposition needs a great push.
People ask me: 'What will convert America and save the world?' My
answer is prayer. What we need is for every parish to come before
Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in holy hours of prayer." - Saint Tere-
sa of Calcutta
Wednesday, February 7 7—9 p.m.
Additionally, for special prayer time during Lent,
beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa on each of
the six Sundays in Lent, Fr Vogel will expose the
Eucharist on the Altar and begin a time of Ado-
ration which will continue until 10:00 p.m.
Since we can never leave Our Lord alone, there will be sign up sheets
available to make sure someone will always be present the entire
time that Jesus is exposed on the altar each Sunday. Please consid-
er if you will be able to make that commitment and promise to Jesus
to stay with Him awhile. Of course, anyone can come at any time
during the day to pray without being signed up.
“Could you not watch one hour with Me?"
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 14
There are boxes available at each church for old,
blessed palms. Remember, blessed items cannot just be
thrown into the garbage, but must be disposed of properly.
These old palms will be burnt and the ashes will be used on
Ash Wednesday this year. Pease bring in your old palms by Feb 7th.

CRS Operation Rice Bowl incorporates all three pillars of
Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
The idea is to deprive yourself of something– a favorite
snack, a meal out, meat for a few days– and put the money
you saved into the Rice Bowl. Pray for those less fortunate who never
have the ability to have those things. At the end of Lent you take all the
money you have sacrificed for and give it to the starving poor.
Rice Bowl items are available at all churches.
