• HS Counselors present registration information to 8th grade students

• MS Counselors meet with 8th grade students to register for classes

• Parents check, sign, and return course selection sheet to middle

school; be sure to select alternate courses

• Master Schedule is based on selections by mid March – choose wisely!

• Course selections will be visible immediately in your SIS Parent

Account by mid March – please review

• Course verification sheets will be mailed home on May 18 – please

review

• Electives and Level Changes will be considered until June 8th – if

space is available

• Schedules are created in June/July/August

• Schedules will be given out at the Wildcat Welcome in August

In English 9, students will:

•Read a variety of literary genres, focusing on analysis and character study

•Develop their writing skills for a variety of purposes and audiences

•Improve their skill in reading, writing, vocabulary development, and knowledge of correct grammar and mechanics

•Receive support as they develop critical thinking skills they can apply to communicating their ideas

While the same skills are taught in regular and Honors English 9,

to be successful in an Honors English 9 class students:

Should be successful in their 8th grade English class

Should be prepared for an increased workload with out-of-class reading and writing assignments

Should enjoy reading and possess strong reading comprehension skills

Should be strong writers in terms of organization, style, grammar, usage, and mechanics

Should have a mature attitude toward their studies and a strong work ethic as they will receive challenging assignments (research paper v. product, timed writings, etc.)

EXPUNGING MIDDLE SCHOOL

GRADES

• To expunge a high school math or World Language grade/credit from your student’s permanent transcript you need to notify the middle school during the school year or the high school after the school year ends.

• Students have until the end of the first nine weeks of their freshman year to request to have a grade expunged.

• Form IS-104 is available at the middle school and high school or online.

• Once a course has been expunged it cannot be reinstated.
