WHOLESALE PRICE INDEX

As my presidential year winds down and comes to a close, I am without words to express how wonderful the experience has been. I would like to extend a big “thank you” for the opportunity to serve NAEC.

The past three years serving on the NAEC Board of Directors has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had in my 28 year career in the elevator industry. The friendships that have been made

as well as the opportunity to work beside some of the most talented and experienced people in our industry is priceless. I have had the opportunity to travel and represent NAEC at several events. I have been able to work with many excellent volunteers and board members that give their time and efforts to insure our association serves our members to the fullest extent possible.

Thank you to our executive director, Teresa Witham, and the entire NAEC staff. The support and dedication of the NAEC staff in Conyers is a vital support link to the continued success of our association.

I would also like to thank my family both at home and O’Keefe Elevator. Without the full support of both I would not have been able to serve the NAEC like I have. A special thank you to my wife Candi for all her support and time over the past three years.

I would like to offer my appreciation to the board members I have served with and also a special thank you to my vice president Joe McNally. Joe will be a fantastic president and I wish him the best as he takes over as NAEC president in September upon completion of our convention in Montreal.

In closing, once again, thank you everyone for all of your support and allowing me the honor to service as your president this past year.

Best regards,

Bret Abels

Everyone in the world has a different definition of the word success; whether it is raising a healthy family or becoming a top executive in a company. Each one of us strives to make a difference in the world.

Generations before us have achieved so much when it comes to creating bigger and more efficient means of transportation. It is our duty to take what the previous generations have learned and continue to push the envelope. NEXGEN is a great way to fast track individuals to be the future ambassadors of our industry.

NexGen is a group of young professionals who serve NAEC and its members by bridging the gap between generations, providing education, leadership development and peer networking with the goal of facilitating the successful transition of a company’s leadership for the future enhancement of our industry as a whole.

NEXGEN Committee ChairmanStephen BiondyLaird Plastics

I joined Laird Plastics back in 2012. I was very eager to learn the business and grow within the elevator industry. While it may seem difficult to break into this industry, it’s worth the effort because once you’re in you’re in for life. It is time for your company to focus on the importance of younger generations. Part of paying it forward is making sure you are training new people on the duties and positions that will be vacant in the future. NexGen can be a partner in that endeavor.

If you or someone within your company would like to become a part of NexGen, please contact Shawn Cowden with NAEC, 800-900-NAEC or [email protected].

** NexGen will be hosting a luncheon at United in Montreal for those that are fully registered to attend the convention. Contact Shawn Cowden for more details.

Reynolds & Reynolds Electronics, Inc. (R&R) has been a member of NAEC for 27 years. The company is recognized as a leading supplier of battery backup units for the elevator industry. Primarily sold under the Powervator® brand, the company’s main products serve a wide range of industry-specific needs and include Emergency Return Systems / Battery Backup for traction and hydraulic passenger / freight elevators (single and three phase models,) Emergency Brake Release (EBR) units, and Door Speed Controllers. Reynolds & Reynolds is a well-respected name in the elevator industry. This is the result of making and delivering a quality product on time and supporting it with a solid warranty and exceptional customer service, including free, unlimited technical support for the life of the product.

The US Manufacturer was founded in 1989 by William (Bill) and Renata Reynolds. People were getting trapped in elevators when normal building power was lost. To solve the problem, Bill invented the “LXI Battery Back-up Emergency Power System for Hydros,” which was first advertised in

REYNOLDS & REYNOLDS ELECTRONICS, INC.

the September 1989 edition of Elevator World magazine. R&R expanded its offerings as the elevator industry grew, developing many patented, CSA / UL approved products.

Shirley Gross, an employee who joined Reynolds & Reynolds during its first year, recognizes the individual and financial investment that R&R has made in its people and its facility. “Bill Reynolds began the tradition by being involved with the employees and business on a personal level. Employees shared and continue to share in the success of the business.” After Bill’s passing in 1992, Bill’s wife, Renata, was committed to growing the business and cultivating customer relationships. In 2001, Renata’s succession planning included the addition of W. John Reinartz, the company’s President and CEO.

Reynolds & Reynolds continually invests in its employees, equipment, facility, and in new product development. It is very important to reinvest profits, support the core business and recognize employee efforts. Every good manufacturing company needs a safe and ergonomically friendly facility, capital equipment that is up-to-date, reliable and maintained, and skilled, willing craftspeople. The company

will be moving to a new building this autumn, with an improved production floor layout that utilizes Lean Manufacturing principals to optimize flow, minimize waste, and increase productivity and throughput. The company is also designing a new emergency rescue unit for traction elevators that has a smaller footprint, is more powerful, and incorporates key features that elevator OEMs are looking for.
