Departm ent of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Trinity C o lle g e of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram , o rg an ized a N ational Level Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology titled GENERIX- 2K19 on 1 2th A p ril 2 0 1 9. The inaugural function w as started with a p ra y e r song b y students. Mr. Lineesh A S, Convenor of G e n e r ix -2 K 1 9, w elcomed and introduced the guests to the gathering. Dr. Arun Surendran, Princi­p al and Strateg ic Director, who w as presiding over the function, talked a few words about the im portance of con­ferences in technical education. The C h ief G uest Mr. R S Nithin, V ice Chairm an IEEE, K e ra la Young Professionals d elivered the inaugural ad dress and inaugurated the function b y lightening the lam p.

The inauguration w as follow ed b y the first keynote address. R S Nithin d elivered a talk on “Entrepreneurship.” It w as follow ed by the interactive session of Mr. Roshan S h areef, Founder of Tesseract Innovations. He d elivered a talk on “Electrical System Design Using BIM”. He illustrated how BIM has m ade life easier for Electrical systems designers because of clash detection and resolution.The program was intended to explore the innovations and accomplishments in different a re a s of engineering and to bring researchers, scientists, engineers and students from different parts of the country to present their research and id e a s.W e a re h ap p y to have accom plished experts as resource persons, a g rea t set of p apers w ere presented and w ide range of topics have been addressed in the conference. F inally Mrs. Anuvinda S M, H ead of the Departm ent, d elivered the vote of thanks and some p artic i­pants proposed the vote of thanks and fe ed b ack. Letmac Innovations conducted a RC Fighter Plane Workshop on 23 rd February 201 9 at Trinity College of Engineering.The workshop was led by Asst.Prof.Vijeesh (MD of Letmac Innovation) and coordinated by our alumni team. Trinitians and other college students attended the workshop. The workshop introduced the basics of aircraft construction followed by model making and flying. The partipants received participation certificates from Letmac Innovations.

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering conducted a workshop on Cyber Security on 6th March 201 9 as a part of Tech- fest GENERIX 2K19. The session was led by Mr.Hemanth Joseph, Senior Security Engineer and Hall of Famer of Apple, Google and Facebeook.

COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOP

A team of students from S6 ECE and ME attended the three d a y workshop on CO M PU TER V IS IO N U S IN G DEEP LEA R N IN G from 8th ,9th and 1 Oth M arch 2 0 1 9 in M arian Engineering C o lleg e. The students a re interested in pur­suing Al and DL topics for their final y e a r projects. Trinity’s Projects & Publications center is keen on promoting R&D in em erging technologies.

IOT WORKSHOP

O ur students attended a Two d a y workshop on loT A pplication Development Program O bjectives on 9th and 1 Oth M arch 2 0 1 9 at the G ovt. Engineering C o lle g e , Barton Hill, Trivandrum. This workshop provided a platform to learn various components, technique, and applications in loT. These workshops also help the Entrepreneur to build their product with industrial standards. All the participant will get a Certificate of Participation from KSUM and ICTAK.

MACHINE LEARNING WORKSHOP

O ur S6 EEE and ECE students attended a workshop on M achine Learning, A rtificial Intelligence and D eep Learning on 12th M arch 2 0 1 9 . The session w as handled by Mr. Robin Reni, A rtific ia l Intelligence Engineer, Innovation Incubator. The session was conducted using the new facilities at our computer lab . Mr. Reni introduced the basic concepts, history and applications of these em erging technologies. The event w as part of the lead up events for

G e n e rix , 2 0 1 9 .ENGINE OVERHAUL WORKSHOP

The six d a y (3 weekends) Engine O verhaul W orkshop at Trinity campus for M echanical Engineering students under the guidance of Asst.Prof. C hand rasekhar (M echanical Department) commenced last weekend. O ve r 2 0 students will get complete hands on learning of engine components, their assem bly and maintenance. This is the second time this workshop has been organized on campus after the overwhelming success two ye ars ago. Faculty C h an ­drasekhar had started the first autom obile m echanical workshop for M aruti brand in Trivandrum before his decades long stint in the M idd le East in the same field. 1 ^

VIRTUAL REALITY WORKSHOP

Bestowal Info Techs conducted a W orkshop on VIRTUAL REALITY (360 D egree W r a p Around Perspective) - "Blur The Line Between Im agina­tion and Reality" for S6 and S8 students from C iv il Engineering and M echanical Engineering Department. The workshop was organized in our college auditorium on 1 1th M arch 2 0 1 9 . As a significant 4th Industrial Revolution technology, it is important for students to get exposure and an understanding of the Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies.

C o lle g e a lre a d y has a team working with VR Startup Embright Infotech. A dedicated high power processor com­puter will arrive on campus next month which will be used to establish a VR space inside the ADM L lab.

SHORT TERM BIM TRAINING PROGRAM

O ur principal Dr. Arun Surendran inaugurated the two months Building Information M odeling (BIM) training program conducted by BIM Labs. The 2 4 0 hour training program for the Final y e a r C iv il Engineering students was started on 2 2n d M arch 2 0 1 9. O ve r 2 0 students are attending the hands on training. The college currently hosted the BIM team of A d ra k Engineering & Construction Limited working in tandem with C& T Engineers and Tasseract Innovation. BIM Labs will conduct a placement drive on campus at the end of the training period.

AWARENESS PROGRAM

S6 and S8 students from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Departm ent attended an aw areness program on C A D by C A D Desk Trivandrum .

GESTURE CONTROLLED DRONE WORKSHOP & RACE

Asst.Prof.Vijeesh V S (EEE), MD of Letmac Innovations and team conducted the two d a y G esture Controlled Drone workshop and Race in association with IEDC for the students of Sree N a ra y a n a Institute of Technology,

Kollam on 28th and 29th M arch, 2 0 1 9. The teams used Letmac created special drone kits to assem ble their own drones which were flown at the end of the two d a y workshop. Race winners were recognised.

He ap p recia ted Asst.Prof. Vishwajith (M echanical Engineering Department) for being appointed by A ir India as A ircraft M ainte­nance Engineer. He urged the students to focus more on their studies and to respect their parents.O ur Principal Dr.Arun Surendran asked the students to cultivate good habits like punctuality which will help them build g reat careers.Students were informed about our college being chosen as the best in K e ra la by ISTE N ational Committee. They were urged to use their time w isely to complete

On Monday briefing our Principal Dr.Arun Surendran informed the students about the upcoming hackathon in AR/VR and ICT Academy workshop. Last week our principal judged the 2 day Hackathon meet at Marian College of Engineering. He recognized the students from ECE department who were selected by Kerala Startup Mission for the upcoming idea contest. The campus is expecting a visit from Retd Army officer who is an expert in drones. Sessions will be arranged with him for interested students.Series exams will be conducted from Thursday. Students were asked to submitted individual Industrial Visit reports to get activity points. Student presentation for the weekly briefing was by Divya S R. She presented a timely introduction about the GATE examination. Students were told about the nature of questions, courses to cover and the dates important for 2020 GATE exam. Mechanical HoD Asst. External Expert Mr. Jitendra Tiwari from “Made Easy”, New Delhi addressed the students about prepara­tion techniques for GATE and similar exams. He holds the Limca book of records title for memorizing GRE word list from Barron’s. He introduced memory techniques to the students and impressed them with his capacities. Later Mr. Tiwari took shorter sessions about GATE coaching to different departments.

B rig ad ier (Retd) G V G P ra sad , Director, Dronitech (A brand of parent com pany Drovation Solution Pvt.Ltd visited our college on last week. He cam e to fin alize the details of launching drone based courses conducted by Indian A cad em y of Drones (IAD) at our campus. He was h a p p y to have the collaboration with Trinity for conducting their hands on 5 d a y piloting course and 2 d a y drone cintem atography course. Trivandrum is the first city outside M um bai and H y d e ra b a d where Dronitech is extending its operation. Though series exam s were in progress,1 5 selected students attended an interactive session with him.

He shared his experiences with drones in the arm y and how drones are revolutionising various civilian industries like surveying, monitoring, communication etc.

C G P U is led by Asst Prof Anand M ichael of M echanical Dept with faculty representatives from each department. O ur final y e a r students have a lre a d y taken part in job fairs held in different locations. Last w eek, as part of BIM Summit, a job fa ir was held on campus for C iv il, Mech and EEE students tow ards BIM. Al A d ra k has a lre a d y informed of its requirement of q ualified freshers as part of our Direct Absorption Program for graduates. So fa r 1 6 students from Trinity have been abso rbed to A d ra k group in the last y e a r. Trinity will also be hosting another job fa ir in the coming months. Trinity C a re e r G u id an ce and Placement C e ll conducted an objective test for 3rd and 4th y e a r students of EEE and ECE Department. MOU SIGNED WITH MARA (UITM)O ur C o lleg e has signed M o ll with M a laysia 's largest university, University Teknologi M ARA (UiTM) for cooperation in academ ic, scientific and personnel developm ent. Trinity is the first college in K e ra la that UiTM University has entered into MoU. The agreem ent will facilitate student and faculty exchange, conduct of short courses and conferences and co llaborative research in engineering and technology.

Statlogic, the G e o sp a tia l big d ata multinational com pany that recently moved to Trivandrum as part of the upcom­ing N ano space park signed an MoU with Trinity C o lle g e of Engineering. The document was exchanged between director of Statlogic, Sam uel John and our Principal. C T O of Statlogic Vignesh was also present on the occasion. The team from Statlogic interacted with the faculty and student team who would undertake the two R&D projects a lre a d y supported by trinity for Statlogic. These involve prototyping and design of IOT and NOT services with international industry standards for the agriculture sector. 10 students and 3 faculty from ECE and EEE departm ent form the team which is coordinated by Asst.Prof. V ip in G o p a n from the projects and publications office. There will be w eekly meetings of the team with Statlogic reps so that the projects milestones are met in a timely fashion.

Trinity celeb rated the N ational Science d a y on 8th March 2 0 1 9. The event was d e la ye d from Feb ruary 28th because of exam schedule. Dr. Arul Jerald Prakash, the Director of K e ra la State Science and Technology Museum was the chief guest. The theme this y e a r was Science Comm unica­tion. In his wonderful keynote, Dr. Prakash recounted stories of V ikram S a ra b h a i, APJ Abdul Kalam and Homi B aba to stress the im portance of science communication in our nation building. 30

Trinity hosted the first India BIM Summit o rganized by BIMIabs. Close to 5 0 delegates from different com panies and colleges attended the two d a y event. 8 com panies e n g ag e d in BIM training conducted recruitment drive as well. Second d a y was exclusively hands on training in BIM software. The eminent speakers were included from Arth H y d e ra b a d , Y S C Saudi A ra b ia , C & T Engineers, Tasseract Innovations and more.O ur Principal Dr. Arun Surendran inaugurated the summit and stressed on the im portance of all engineersbeing aw are and getting trained in BIM which has revolutionised the design and build process. The professional Student Summit held at CU SA T on 1 1th Feb 2 0 1 9 was inaugurated by our Honourable Chief Minister Shri. P in arayi V ija y a n . Trinity’s student re p re ­sentatives Soniya (S6 Mech), Ananthakrishnan (S6 Civil), Prabin (S4 Mech) and Shaiju (S4 ECE) attended the summit held in Kochi. The K e ra la Governm ent took intiative to motivate students to excel in their fields. An internship program based on A SA P was also introduced. It has been initiated by Fourth Ambit, that recognises Trinity as a hub for technology internships. The breakout sessions had experts from the concern departments mentor the students. A full y e a r internship after 4th y e a r of Btech is being discussed as a potential method to im prove the industry readiness of graduates.

SKILL DELIVERY PLATFORM KERALA INAUGURATION

Trinity C o lleg e of Engineering was chosen as one of the first phase colleges in the state to receive the new Skill D elivery Platform K e ra la initiative. The equipment which allows remote d elive ry of lectures from studios in Technoparks will allow interactive experience for the students. Skill courses in A l, ML, Blockchain etc planned to be delivered. The state of the art computer lab at Trinity was u p g rad e d for this purpose. SDPK will allow students to be better p re p a re d for the job market.

The class w as handled by Mr. Robin Babu, M echanical Division H ead of Al A d ra k , Muscat. Robin, who is a regular visitor to Trinity exp la in ed to the students the importance of being thorough with the fundam entals of me­chanical engineering subjects while entering the w orkplace. direct ap plicatio n of subject matter and theory llearnt in undergrad classes comes up in the construction fie ld . O ur Principal Dr.Arun Surendran received the certificate of appreciation from M s.Chinma on behalf of SCRI Stem C e ll Registry of India on 1 3 th Feb ruary 2 0 1 9. 7 2 Trinitians including students and staffs registered for Stem Cell Donor Director. N SS co ordinators Asst.Prof.Rakesh R and student co ordinators volunteered the program . The Reg­istry team said that they d idn’t expect such a high number. Usually they get only 1 0 % of the college to sign up. The ap p recia ted the N SS team for excellent coordination. The team will be back in M arch for follow up and MoU with the college so that fresh batches of students can enroll.
