Kim KestnerHeaven’s End – Favoured by Ghosts Vol.1 (978-3-7373-4134-9) Hardcover with dust jacket and gold foil 464 pp., 15.2 × 22.0 cm Ages 12 +

Where heaven ends, the world of ghosts begins …

15-year-old Jojo lives in Heaven’s End, a small Scottish coastal town. Life is less calm and idyllic than one would think, however – because Jojo has the ability to see (and talk to) ghosts … both animal and human. And there are quite a few of those living in and around Heaven’s End – and also in Jojo’s house! There is an

entire crowd of crazy ancestors under her roof who are per-fectly invisible to other people.

Since nobody must know this, she regularly finds herself in strange and challenging situations.

This is especially disconcerting in the case of Zack, the Earl’s son (whose sparkling

eyes unfortunately make Jojo tingling all over). How long will she be able to keep her secret? When a fiendish wizard tries to return from the afterworld, things take a much darker turn than ever before … and Jojo has no choice but to reach out to her friends, both the dead and the living. But in order to do that, she will have to tell Zack the truth. And pass the

threshold into the afterworld …

Extremely thrilling, heavenly romantic, devilishly good – the amazing beginning of

a captivating ghost fantasy trilogy!

Kim Kestner has already met many ghosts during her travels through Scotland – most of them were friendly. Since 2010, she has been working as a freelance author and has already published several novels. She lives near Hamburg with her husband and two children.

Ten cheeky penguins have a lot of fun and do a lot of mischief in ice and snow. Sometimes a little penguin gets lost along the way. Be it during dizzying ice-skating, sliding on icebergs or during the fish ice cream eating contest. In the end, there is one sad penguin left behind. That cannot be. So, quickly, all of them come back together again!

However, when the time comes to actually go to bed, the tiredness has completely disappeared: “But I’m not tired at all,” he boasts, jumping around on his bed.

But when Mummy and Daddy Badger look away for a bit, he falls asleep right away … as it turns out: he had been just a little bit tired after all.

Cornelia Funke, born in 1958, is one of the most successful and well-known German children’s authors world-wide. The US magazine “Time” chose her as one of the 100 most influential people of the year 2005; she was also named as one of 50 “Best German Women” in 2007. She has been awarded numerous prizes for her books.

Princess Violetta wants to be able to ride and fight just like her older brothers. Her father, King Wilfried, has other plans with her, though. To celebrate her birthday, there will be a tournament – and the winner is supposed to have Violetta as his wife. Violetta absolutely wants to prevent that. She has a plan and can prove to everyone that girls can be smart and strong knights who decide for themselves … A cheekily illustrated knight’s story questioning all gender stereotypes!

A difficult case for the Happy Fairy Pistachia: Lukas Besenbein is in a bad mood – with no idea how to be happy. He is grumbling, complaining and moaning all the time and about everything. So, Pistachia sets out to change that, sprinkles Lukas with a smid-gen of fairy dust and gives him a few lessons on being happy – with great success!

Nostalgic picture book

Grandpa Paul likes to tell a story of what he did when he was a little boy: when he went to the zoo, dressed up nicely in a white sailor suit. Paul is supposed to behave nicely and not get himself dirty. But that’s not so easy.

Paul does not want to behave. He prefers picking on the elephant a little bit. But he is served right back and the elephant splashes him with dirty water. When Paul pokes the giraffe’s leg, it chews on Paul’s cap in return. And the llamas spit at him because he has thrown just a few tiny pebbles at them.

In the end, Paul’s beautiful sailor suit is completely soiled – and he realizes that picking on others actually only means bother for him.

When playing hide-and-seek, Lieselotte discovers the perfect hide-out: a large elderberry bush. Great! What a perfect place for her, all alone! Quickly, she re-turns to the farm to gather a few things to make herself more comfortable. But when she gets back, the goat and the pony have already taken over her special place. So mean! After all, Lieselotte found the bush first. But then the chickens take over the den, and now the pony and the goat are sulking as well. Maybe Lieselotte can drive away the chicken with a chicken-scare-machine …?

A new funny adventure with Lieselotte and her friends.

When Maya builds a snowwoman with her mother, everything seems a little different than usual. Birds follow her around singing, a deer watches her from behind a bush, and a squirrel brings along a branch … It almost seems as if they wanted to help Maya build the snowwoman.

But everything becomes even more wondrous: In the moonlight, Maya’s snowwoman comes to life and takes her on a journey into the magical winter night with its glittering snow.

It is the day before Christmas Eve. Mia wants to buy a last-minute Christmas present for her mum together with her dad. Even if that’s not an easy thing to do, it’s still better than having to wait endlessly for nightfall and the presents. When they finally have found something nice for mum, and the presents are beautifully wrapped up, Mia’s dad is gone. Where is he? And how is Mia supposed to find him in this chaos? But before tears can start rolling down her cheeks, an angel comes to her rescue.

A funny and light-hearted Christmas story which will shorten the seemingly endless wait for Christmas Eve for all impatient children.

Erkki, the tiny elk, lives in the Land of Thousand Lakes together with many other forest inhabitants. He would be an entirely normal elk if it weren’t for his size: Erkki is just as tall as his best friend, Lasse the rabbit, and not one bit taller. It is easy for the chief Elk and the chief Bear to overlook him sometimes. But even the strong bears cannot do anything against the mean wolves that suddenly threaten the forest inhabitants. Erkki and Lasse decide that they have to come up with a plan to defend themselves against the wolves. And one thing is clear: If they join up their forces, no adventure is too big for best friends!

A tongue-in-cheek story for young and older fans of elks.

two heroines on a mission to save the day!

Oda and Tilda fit together like two pieces of Lego: perfectly! Oda is quick as a flash in most things (except for tidying up) but, unfortunately, she often fails to notice important details. Tilda is just as slow as her pet snail Miss Marple, but she usually never fails to notice even the tiniest detail.

When Dracula, the shaggy dog from the third floor, disappears, the two are abso-lutely certain: This has to be a genuine case of dognapping! They have to save Dracula! After all, they could earn the offered finder’s fee of 250 euros – that is enough to buy 500 small bags of sweets at the kiosk! But then a lot of things get in their way and, suddenly, the two Lego pieces do not really fit anymore.

Nasti – which is short for Anastasia – is scared of everything: Dark rooms, the cellar, being alone in the flat – she is al-ways afraid, very afraid. But help is on its way. Rosa Riedl the ghost teaches Nasti confidence.

Rosa Riedl became a ghost in the year 1938 when she wanted to help Mr. Fischl, a Jew, who was forced to clean the pave-ment with a toothbrush by the Nazi-mob. Rosa wanted to rush towards him across the street and was hit by a streetcar. Since then Rosa has been a ghost armed with courage to fight against injustice wherever she encounters it. And it is not only Nasti who learns a lot from Rosa ...

After a wild chase, Johann manages to transport his sister Janka, Ms. Tossilo, the dragon and himself into the virtual world of a computer game. But they cannot stay in the fantastic world of the game forever because there are unexpected dangers lying in wait there, too. Janka and Johann are desperately looking for a way to escape.

The exceptionally talented Valija Zinck expertly captivates her readers and im-presses with original ideas and a beautiful narrative style.

Franz Kafka’s texts have been fascinating and puzzling generations of readers. They are full of riddles and they are unsettling – and that is exactly why they capture the readers’ imagination.

Stefanie Harjes, an artist from Hamburg, let herself be inspired by them and created extraordinary illustrations to accompany the selected texts.

She presents the reader with her very own perspective on one of the most important writers of the 20th century and shows that his works do not only offer dark depths.

Funny, romantic, with a dash of magic

15-year-old Victoria (“Vicky”) finds herself inexplicably “leap-ing” into the body of her alter ego – a girl who looks just like her – more and more often and for increasing intervals. From one moment to the next she suddenly gets a whiff of cinnamon and then, unexpected, she is catapulted into a parallel life. The other Victoria (“Tori”) lives in the same city and attends the same school – but this is where the similarities end. For one thing, Tori seems to live with her father (and not like Vicky with her mother); and she is best friends with a girl Vicky despises. The most complicating factor is, though, that the two girls actually exchange places during those „leaps“. Naturally, Tori causes utter chaos in Vicky’s life! Especially when it comes to her love life – Tori has her very own way of helping her parallel self to make a move in the right direction ...

Making wishes come true – that would be just great! In the past, Lina was convinced that she was able to do that and that she was a real lucky charm: Around her, secret wishes all of a sudden came true. But that was a long time ago. And what it was exactly that had made the wishes come true Lina never figured out. What a shame because now Lina has a big wish herself: She wants to finally, finally fall properly in love, and on first sight please! With fierce determination, Lina again works on fulfill-ing wishes. Unfortunately, all her experiments end in absolute chaos. As if that wasn’t terrible enough, there is also another meddler who keeps getting in the way …

Dagmar Bach is again at her best and writes about topics that her readers love: a girl with a magical secret, handsome boys to fall in love with, the very best friend as steady as a rock and a series of unfortunate blunders. To be continued!

> Secret wishes, a modern fairy and lots of romantic chaos > Meet Vicky of “Cinnamon” again, too! > Volume 2 will be published in summer 2020

Emotional and romantic, cheeky and confrontational – Lucia’s texts are any-thing but boring. In texts that are some-times deep and sometimes funny, Lucia Lucia writes about love and femininity, about herself and the challenges that women have to face in modern society.

In touching poems, brazen texts, quick-fire dialogues and intense prose everything comes together and forms one harmonic masterpiece.

Lucia Lucia became famous in November 2017 with the perfor-mance of her text “Mathilda” on YouTube. A video recording of the finale of the German National Poetry Slam went viral with 4 million views and created a buzz in the press. Since then, the winner of the Hamburg championship has been touring Germany and Switzerland, is currently preparing her very own solo tour and only wants to keep doing two things: writing and perform-ing.

Alexandra Richter-Woite, born in 1990, is a digital media designer by trade, a self-love coach, dance and expressive therapist and photographer based in southern Germany. Alongside classical portraits and wedding photography (which she carries out under the name Frau Herz) she specialises in individual coaching and workshops on the topics of self-love, personality development, photography and self-sufficiency. Her motto is: Live life to the full and experience it in its many facets.

Alexandra has finally written her first how-to guide in which she gives every-day tips for a happy and autonomous life. Although still young, she has already had to overcome hard blows of fate. The anecdotes in her self-love book show us how she found her way to greater self-acceptance, gratitude and happiness.

On Instagram, Alexandra is a role model for thousands of young women whom she motivates and inspires daily through her posts.
