Dear Parents:

SBCISD has received a grant from the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Organization inwhich funds have been utilized to purchase books for students in three book giveawaysthroughout the school year. The first book giveaway was the week of December 15-19,2003. The second giveaway is scheduled for the week of March 8-12, 2004.

The RIF Organization encourages and endorses that students read for fun and pleasure,thus the book giveaways. To promote the importance of pleasure reading, the RIFcommittee has scheduled the following activities:

Thursday, March 11th – “Surf into Reading” (Students may wear Hawaiian shirts).

Friday, March 12th – “Jam into Reading” (Students may wear colorful jams).

Please encourage your son/daughter to participate in these activities.

Students are scheduled to come to the library during their reading classes to receive theirbooks during these two days. Any student who is absent on this day, may come by thelibrary to pick up his/her book when he/she returns to school.

Your help with these activities will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Some book titles include Harry Potter and Goosebumps Series. If you object to anyof these titles, please indicate below and have your child return this letter to his/herreading teacher.

Apreciables Padres:

SBCISD ha recibido una subvencion de la Organizacion RIF (La Lectura es Fundamental) en lacual los fondos han sido utilzados en la compra de tres obsequios de libros para los estudiantesdurante todo al ano escolar. El primer obsequio fue en la semana del 15 al 19 de diciembre del2003. El Segundo es en la semana del 8 al 12 de marzo del 2004.

La Organizacion RIF fomenta y endosa que los estudiantes lean por diversion y placer, por eso sonlos obsequios de libros. Para promover la importancia de la lectura por placer, el Comite RIF haprogramado las siguientes actividades:

Jueves 11, de marzo – “Costear en la lectura” (Los estudiantes pueden usar sus camisas Hawaianas).

Viernes 12, de marzo – “Jams en la lectura” (Los estudeantes pueden usar jams de diferentes colores).

Por favor anime a su hijo/a a participar en estas actividades.

Los estudiantes deben venir a la biblioteca durante sus clases de lectura por estos dos dias pararecibir sus libros. Cualquier estudiante que este ausente ese dia, puede venir a la biblioteca arecoger su libro cuando regrese a la escuela.

Su ayuda con estas actividades sera grandemente apreciada.
