Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
On a late November Sunday evening, I stood before a folding table in the narthex of the church. Standing to my left was a woman who became a grandmother for the first time earlier this year. Across the table from her was a woman who is a single mother of a teenage son. To my right were our twin sons, age 6. All around us at other tables in the room were women and men of vastly different ages, races, life experiences, and socioeconomic statuses. For a few hours on that Sunday afternoon, we came together as the Body of Christ. Through RPC’s partnership with Grace First Presbyterian Church of Weatherford and Kids Against Hunger of Parker County, in a few hours, we packed over 11,000 ready-to-eat meals. As Ridglea’s pastor, I am proud of the work we did, and I know those meals will make a difference to hungry people both here and abroad. But as a father, I am even more grateful for the opportunity that my sons had to work side by side with their church family. In recent months your church leaders have been doing some deep work about what makes Ridglea a great church. One of the theme words that we’ve identified is intergenerational. Our church places a high value on intergenerational ministry. Yes, we have age-specific Sunday School and children’s and youth ministry programs, but we are always seeking more intentional ways to incorporate children and youth into the full life of the church. Our young sons may not yet understand food insecurity or poverty, but they will always remember the day they got to stand in the narthex of the church, put on a hairnet and gloves carefully measure rice into a bag alongside the big kids and the grownups alike. When they are grown, they will remember when they were children growing up at Ridglea, they were treated not as “the future of the church,” but rather as a valued part of the Body of Christ right now. This kind of ministry does not just happen. It takes careful and thoughtful planning and good stewardship of financial resources. Your generous gifts are an indispensable part of this ministry. If you want to invest in both the present and the future of the church of Jesus Christ, I can think of no better place than Ridglea Presbyterian Church. Peace be with you, Ryan P.S. The bountiful winter clothing contributed by the congregation in Octo-ber was warmly received by the Beautiful Feet ministry. This homeless resource started in the 1980s in the Water Gardens, renovated a church on the east side (near the Presbyterian Night Shelter) and is still expanding today. In addition to daily church services, they serve meals twice a day, offer showers, laundry, and clothing along with medical, dental, and eye care for the homeless as well. So, what’s in a name? Check out Romans 10:15 “... How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news”. Stay tuned as we expand our Outreach with this amazing group of committed Chris-
tians. 10:15 Isaiah 52:7

Project S. O. U. P. + incredible Church family =
11,184 meals made
Thank you to all who helped set-up, shared time and patience, cleaned up, and espe-
cially to Beth & Paul Duncan for all the crocs of soup we enjoyed together.
The meals we made will make such a difference in South Texas. The fellowship
around the table was full of encouragement and smiles. Young and more experiences
all helped make it all happen.
Most importantly, together as a church family,
The table was full of Good News!

Presbyterian Women - December, 2017
Our friend, Ginny Lunch, from Presbyterian Homes and Family Services,
joined us at our October general meeting. She introduced, Kinda, a counselor with
the organization. Together they explained a new emphasis to expand their programs
serving single parent families. This helps provide safe living conditions, counseling
and realistic goals for the future. Itasca now remains their only group home. The
group’s direction may have changed but it is obvious their goal to help children re-
mains. We were all moved when Kinda remarked, “We pray for our families.”
Reminder: The children on our angel tree this year are again from Presbyteri-
an Homes and Services.
Church Women United meets December 1 at First U.M.C., Burleson, for an
Advent Celebration. Only Circle Three meets this month on December 5 at Chris
Shahan’s home at 6:30 p.m.
All Circles gather on December 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church for our annual
Christmas celebration. The Gold Tone Show Choir, a community-based senior adult
choir, will entertain with seasonal music. A pot-luck luncheon will follow.
Ladies, mark your calendars and join us.

Ridglea Presbyterian Church in partnership with Fort Worth
Opera invites your family to start a new tradition this Advent
season with Menotti’s warm and compassionate retelling of the
Adoration of the Magi, which illustrates the true and essential
spirit of the Christmas season. While a delight to audiences of
all ages, Amahl and the Night Visitors, unlike other Christmas
productions aimed at young audiences, avoids the banalities of
Santa Claus and sugar plum fairies to tell the deeply moving,
deeply moral story of Amahl, a lame shepherd boy, and his poor,
widowed mother. The family is visited one fateful evening by the
Three Kings on their way to Bethlehem, bearing gifts for a leg-
endary newborn child, the promised Messiah, who request shelter for the night. Amahl’s mother, en-
vious of the gifts intended for another, steals gold for her own disabled son. When caught in the act,
she explains to the Three Kings that she needs the gold to feed her starving child, she is readily for-
given. With great tenderness they try to explain to her who this newborn child is and how much He
needs the love of every human being to build His coming kingdom. Touched by their words, the poor
widow not only gives back the stolen gold, but wishes she could add a gift of her own. Amahl impul-
sively hands the Three Kings his wooden crutch, his most precious possession, and in so doing he is
miraculously cured of his lameness. As dawn appears in the sky, the Three Kings prepare to resume
their journey. Amahl begs his mother to let him join them, and is allowed to follow the Kings to Beth-
lehem to adore and give thanks to the Christ Child.
Amahl has served generations of young Americans as their first serious contact with classical music
and opera. Indeed, many in their maturity point to Amahl as having first opened their ears to opera,
making them life-time lovers of classical music. As its sublime music has opened generations of ears,
so its no less sublime subject matter continues to open generations of hearts to the miracles of faith,
forgiveness, and charity—strong lessons for us all to learn, child and adult alike.
Performance date is Sunday, December 10th, 2017 at the 3 PM at Ridglea Presbyterian Church, lo-
cated at 6201 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76116. For additional information, please contact
John Sauvey, Director of Music Ministries, at [email protected] or 817-732-3388.
