The builder and architect worked together to design a residence they felt wasn’t readily available in the valley – a spec home built with intent to showcase everything a custom home could be, without the custom client. The Ridge Road home is dominated by structural and architectural heavy timber, with several layers of structure in the roof to add rhythm and articulation to the grand entrance. Exposed interior and exterior steel also fosters a mountain contemporary feel, while stainless steel cables along the deck and stairwells add a nautical touch. Finish carpentry features walnut doors and trim, and white oak wide-plank flooring throughout. The floor plan includes a main-level master suite, plus en suite bathrooms and walk-in closets in the rest of the bedrooms. Each bathroom has an individual A porcelain and glass tile design, while custom cabinetry is made from a textured plastic laminate, a relatively new and cost-effective solution. Solid slab countertops in the kitchen and a quarry tile in the master bath contrast beautifully with the white oak floors, while ceilings are crafted from reclaimed barn boards. The blackened steel-panel siding still bears the heat patina from the plasma cutter. A low-maintenance, high-efficiency boiler and appliance package gives the property state-of-the-art appeal. It was also wired to become a “smart home.” Upon completion, this home received a five-star energy rating. Ultimately, the home’s siting was everything. The new homeowners can readily see the Flat Tops, Burgess Creek, Fish Creek Canyon, Mount Werner and the gondola cars.
