While I was sadly out of action last Thursday and Friday (having minor surgery), I have heard nothing but positive reports regarding these events. Open Day, along with the Easter hat parade and Grandparents Day are some of the highlights of the year. Days such as these provide us with a perfect platform for ‘showing off’ our wonderful school and students. They are great community events that bring everyone together and help us to create a sense of community across our school. You will find a report of these events later in this newsletter. Milo Cricket Huge congratulations to our amazing Stg3 Milo Cricket team who played outstandingly well to win the local Hawkesbury competition. Mr Wheat reports that the team played with skill and determination in defeating a strong Wilberforce PS team in the final. Our players displayed great sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork – all essential qualities in a champion sports team. We are very proud of this team’s achievements. Thank you to all who assisted in preparing and transporting the players to the competition day. Coding Classes Our coding classes with ScopeIT are well underway, with some classes continuing on with building skills in computer coding, while other classes have undertaken classes in 3D design and printing. The 3D design and printing is a new option that some students are participating in for the first time. Now that the school has purchased its own 3D printers, it will be interesting to see what skills the students develop and what designs they can come up with. It has been very pleasing to once again offer these classes to students at no cost to parents. The school allocates funding from its budget to cover the costs of conducting these courses. Please take the time to ask you children about the work they are doing in these classes. We know that these future focussed skills will be highly sought after in the future. As such, we feel our students need to be provided with these types of opportunities where they can develop their creative and critical thinking skills to solve real problems. Kickstart to Kindergarten The response to our Kickstart to Kindergarten program has once again been fantastic. With around 40 children already participating, we are confident that our school will continue to grow. This program provides a perfect introduction to ‘big school’ for our preschool aged children. They develop social skills, learn about expectations, meet their Kindy teachers and become orientated with the school. One can clearly see the benefits of this program when we observe how quickly these new students settle in to kindergarten. Children that participate in the Kickstart program develop the self-confidence required to make the best start possible to their primary schooling. Last week, the children had the opportunity to meet the school chickens. This proved to be a real highlight of the day for some, while others were drawn to games time and art activities. I look forward to catching up with these children and their parents over the coming weeks. 1

DEBATINGThis year some of our students participated in the Premier’sDebating Challenge, where we had a squad of students from5/6Z and 5/6W make up our team. Four students at eachtime were asked to participate in various debates against otherschools. Some debates were hosted by our school and otherwere ‘away’ debates hosted by other schools.

The students who participated in debating in 2018 were; EthanA, Bailey E, Kimberlie V, Lara P, Oliver E, Este H, Aleisha G andJessica H.

Congratulations to these students for all their efforts this year. The competition was very tough and students were given onlyone hour to prepare a four minute talk on an unknown topic. In our zone we debated against; Bligh Park PS, Richmond PS,Riverbank PS and just this week, we versed Kurmond PS foran ‘away’ debate. Our topic was ‘That primary schools shouldteach compulsory swimming classes’. We were the ‘Negative’side and had to accept defeat from Kurmond PS who puttogether some great arguments.

Our team did not make it to the zone knock-out competitionthis year however, they put up a great fight and haverepresented our RNPS community with pride. We will return tothe competition next year with just as much enthusiasm andwill be looking for more students to join our team. Perhaps wewill have some of the current year 4 students who might beinterested in joining the team for 2019.

Once again, congratulations to our stage 3 debating students. Iam also happy to report of all the compliments I received fromother schools about the conduct of our wonderful studentswhen representing our school. They showed respect, responsibility, compassion and fairness all season and I wasproud to be the teacher to work with these enthusiasticstudents.

A job well done!Miss Chantelle Ziesel - Debating Coordinator 2018

Netball Gala Day

Miss Ziesel and Miss Hamilton are looking for some parenthelpers who are familiar with the basic rules of netball. We arelooking for 3 parents who would be willing and available onFRIDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER between 9am and 2pm, to umpireour students while they play netball at the Gala day. You don’thave to be a badged umpire, you just need to have an idea ofthe basic rules.

We are hoping to enter 3 teams in the comp, which will be heldat Windsor outdoor netball courts.

We would be appreciative of any help you may be able to offer. We are also wanting help to do some training sessions at lunchtime to train the teams. If there are any parents who would beable to help train our netball teams at lunch 1:20 to 2:00pmplease see Miss Ziesel or Miss Hamilton if you can help us out.

It’s always a fun day!Miss Ziesel and Miss Hamilton

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS

The Amazing Book Week – written by 1W

On Thursday Richmond North celebrated Book Week andOpen Day.

To start the day we watched the ‘Treasure Hunt’ performance. The show was fantastic and funny and we liked the costumes.

Then our parents came to our classroom and we showed themour work and read a book to them.

After recess we had our parade. We took it in turns walkingaround the circle in our classes and we showed off ourcostumes. We loved seeing all the characters from differentbooks.

It was a very fun and exciting day and 1W thought it was anamazing and epic morning.

COLO HIGH TRANSITION DAYAll Year 6 students who participated in the transition day atColo High really enjoyed their experience. Well done to all thestudents, your behaviour was outstanding.
