General PoliciesRegistration for ProgramsRegistrations for every recreation program will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the program has reached capacity, or until the registration deadline has passed . Registration forms must be filled out and turned in with complete payment during the registration period to ensure a spot in any class, league, or event . If there are remaining openings available once the registration deadline has passed, registrations will continue to be taken until all spots are filled . Payment may be made in the form of cash, check, debit or credit cards, at the Richfield Parks and Recreation Office at 75 E Center Street, Richfield .
Adult league FeesAdult leagues are funded by a team fee which is due in full at the time of registration . If a sponsorship is sought from a local business, it is recommended that no more than one half of the entire team fee be requested, and that the remainder of the fee be collected from individual team players . No registration for any adult league will be accepted without the accompanying team fee paid in full .
Medical insurance Richfield City does not provide medical insurance for participants in recreation department programs . Participants engage in these sports programs and activities at their own risk, and must have their own medical insurance adequate to cover any possible injuries sustained while participating .
RefundsIndividual registration payments for classes or youth leagues will be refunded as follows:1 . Richfield City will refund all but $3 .00 of the fee paid if the cancellation is made before teams or classes have been set .2 . Richfield City will refund one half of the fee paid if the cancellation is made after teams or classes have been set . 3 . Richfield City will not issue refunds of fees paid once leagues or classes have started .4 . In verified cases of season-ending injuries or illnesses, pro-rated refunds may be made as authorized by the Parks and Recreation Director .
Poor Weather/game cancellationsOutdoor games and activities will typically be held despite mild inclement weather . In cases of substantially poor or unsafe weather conditions with no sign of improvement, the recreation staff may make a decision early on to cancel games . In theses cases, coaches or captains will be notified by 3:00 p .m . that games for that evening have been cancelled . If no call is received by 3:00 p .m ., games will be held according to schedule pending a possible further decision made on-site at game time depending on the weather . Due to the constant changing nature of Utah weather, the majority of weather-based cancellations will occur on-site at game time .
The Richfield Parks and Recreation staff would like to thank all the excel-lent volunteers, coaches, and local businesses who have given of their time and
means throughout the year to make our programs successful . We appreciate you and ask for your continued support .
We encourage everyone to come and be a part of our efforts to build and strengthen this community through wholesome recreation . If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, event helper, or business sponsor, please let us know .
5 2012 Parks & Recreation Activity Guide
Youth Sports Philosophy
Parent’s RoleThe youth sports leagues provided by Richfield Parks and Recreation should be considered learning and train-ing leagues at all levels . The success of our youth sports program relies on the assistance of parents who under-stand and adopt the above-mentioned goal and princi-ples . Parents who embrace this goal will strive to create an atmosphere where children can learn and grow and feel welcomed .
orientation MeetingsA coach’s orientation meeting is held before the start of the season of each youth sport . Rosters, schedules, rules, and equipment are distributed, and information on sportsmanship is covered, with an emphasis on the responsibilities of the coach . Coaches must fill out a volunteer coach application which authorizes a crimi-nal history background check, and must read and sign a coach’s Code of Conduct .
team organizationIn general, teams for leagues that include grades five and up will be formed using a draft system that discourages uneven, or stacked teams .
Drafts will take place a few weeks prior to the parent’s and coach’s meetings . All participants in these leagues will attend a practice session where they will perform various drills and activities that will demonstrate their level and ability in that particular sport . Those parents who volunteered to coach will be in attendance and will
watch the participants, noting those that appear to be at a higher level, those that are average, and those that are less experienced . Immediately after the practice session, participants leave and the coaches will work together to organize a specified number of teams with the help of a member of the recreation staff . By design, coaches will not know which team will be theirs, creating an atmo-sphere where it is in their best interest to ensure that all teams appear as even as possible .
Once teams are set, coaches will draw randomly to pick their team . Coaches’ children are not included in the draft, as they will be added to their parent’s team af-ter the teams are assigned . Teams may be adjusted if the addition of the coaches’ children creates any notable unevenness among them . Also, any requests for indi-viduals to play together may possibly be honored at this time, but only if all coaches agree on the trades . Once the meeting is over, teams are set and no further trading of players will be allowed .
sportsmanshipThere is no place within any recreation program for any form of verbal or physical abuse from any individual . Anyone guilty of harassment, taunting, swearing or pro-fanity, or any other form of unsportsmanlike conduct may be asked to leave the facility immediately . Failure to comply with the requests of recreation staff may result in a forfeiture of the game, and possible suspension from further participation (as a player, coach, or spectator), and/or legal action .
The goal of Richfield Parks and Recreation’s youth sports program is to provide affordable, inclusive leagues where all children regardless of ability can
participate in a fun, organized, and safe environment where they can learn the principles of sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and fair play.

Day-of registrations will be accepted on the dates and times listed for each race with an additional charge . ChriStenSen’S red roCk run-offWe have expanded our trail run this year to include a longer and tougher option for those that need a greater challenge . Both races will run concurrently and will begin and end at the same location, just west of the North I-70 exit in Richfield .
The shorter, original loop route covers 4 .3 miles of varied terrain, heading through town on the paved bike trail, up to the water tower, and along the rugged dirt trail that parallels the freeway along the west hills back to the starting location .
