    Basic Information of Haryana Haryana is bordered by Uttar Pradesh on the East,

    Punjab on the West, Himachal Pradesh on the Northand Rajasthan on the South.

    The capital of Haryana is Chandigarh which isadministered as a union territory. Also, the capitalis shared by Punjab.

    Agriculture is the leading occupation in Haryana. It is one of the wealthiest states in India. It has

    76.64% literacy .

    Punjabi, Haryanvi and English are the most

    commonly used languages in Haryana.

    Demographics Total population : 25,353,081.

    The Sex Ratio in the State is 877 (as compared to940 for the country)

    Hindus are a majority in Haryana and are about

    90% of the population. Sikhs 6.2%,

    Muslims 4.05%

    And Christians 0.10%

    2009 Elections. Haryana has 10 parliamentary Lok Sabha

    constituencies. Earlier, till 2004 elections, Bhiwaniand Mahindragarh were two different

    constituencies but in 2009 they were combined asone. Gurgaon constituency has been recentlyadded. The 2009 election, was the 15th Lok sabhaelection.

    Ambala, Bhiwani and Mahendragarh, Faridabad,Gurgaon, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Sirsa andSonipat- these constituencies were won by theINC in 2009. Only, the Hisar constituency was wonby HJC (Haryana Janhit Congress)

    Economic growth Apart from agriculture, now Haryana is also known as an

    industrial state. It has good infrastructure and proximity to Delhi, which

    has made a lot of companies set up offices in Haryana. Gurgaon, has seen emergence of an active information

    technology industry in the recent years. Haryana is also home to Maruti Udyog Limited, India's

    largest automobile manufacturer, and Hero Honda

    Limited, the world's largest manufacturer of two-wheelers. During the period 2004-05 to 2009-10, the state's

    economy grew at an annual rate of 9.7 per cent, muchhigher than the rate of growth of Indian economy which

    was at 8.6 per cent.

    Social Problems in Haryana Most commonly the issues concerning Haryana, are

    the gender issues. Some of them being: Female foeticide, Domestic violence, Dowry

    ,Deaths and harassment and Restrictions onwomens access to education and healthopportunities.

    Also, a system of Khap panchayat exists inHaryana. Khap is basically, a cluster of villages.Those living in a Khap are not allowed to marry inthe same gotra or even in any gotra from the samevillage.

    In Haryana, Casteism is nurtured in the family.

    They have caste system in every institution.

    BSNL disconnects services to Airtel, Vodafone, Idea

    in Haryana

    BSNL snapped telecom services to privateoperators.

    The services were disconnected to Airtel, Vodafoneand Idea in Haryana circle, leading to disruption inlandline and mobile services.

    After the disconnection, subscribers of BSNLlandline in Haryana circle could not establish link.

    BSNL Haryana circle claimed to have totaloutstanding dues of Rs. 98 lakhs from Vodafone, Rs

    81 lakhs from Airtel and Rs 92 lakhs from Idea.

    In Fatehabad in Haryana, farmers are strongly

    opposing a proposal to set up a nuclear power plant.

    The farmers were concerned about the possibleradiation leaks and nuclear emissions. Fukushima was destroyed by a nuclear disaster after

    earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan in March, adark prospect that farmers of Gorakhpur village in

    Fatehabad want to avoid. While Bhupinder Singh Hooda is in Japan, persuading

    investments for his state, the farmers were out onthe streets protesting against acquisition of farm landfor the proposed plant.

    Japan downgrade set to hit

    Haryana industry Japan is the biggest international investor in the

    state's industrial projects. Currently, Japan is facing

    a debt rating downgrade recently. This might affectthe FDI inflow to Haryana.

    Japanese investment accounts for around 33% of thetotal FDI in Haryana. If Japan faces a slowdown,

    industrial development around Gurgaon will certainlybe affected.

    Projects like, the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor(DMIC) and the proposed Eco-city in Manesar areheavily dependent upon the power of the yen.
