• The Asian population is growing at 1.8 percent per year at present. It means an increasing demand for rice.

• India is the largest consumer of tea and sugar, and the second largest consumer of wheat, RICE, cotton and palm oil.

• India's annual rice production is around 85-90 million tons (102 million tones in the 2010-11 and 94 million tones in 2011-12) Annual consumption, is around 85 million tons, Further needs 128 million tones by 2013
