RHODESIAN FLAG INVENTORY Vexillology is the study of flags and vexillologists are concerned, inter alia, with the preservation of collections of vexillological interest. Rhodesian flags, along with other Rhodesian memorabilia, are widely dispersed. In order to try and understand where these flags are I am establishing an inventory of Rhodesian flags. The purpose is to record and build a comprehensive data-base of Rhodesian flags so that as time passes these items do not ‘disappear’, get lost or destroyed etc. Preparing such an inventory is beyond the capability of any one individual and hence, we are requesting anyone with flags in their possession to please provide the information as shown in the example below. This inventory will be available as a matter of record to anyone with a legitimate interest in vexillology and/or Rhodesiana. We are flag collectors and both have a comprehensive collection of Rhodesian flags, with Bruce having possibly the only complete set of Rhodesian national flags in one collection. RHODESIAN FLAG INVENTORY

Vexillology is the study of flags and vexillologists are concerned, inter alia, with the preservation of collections of vexillological interest.

Your co-operation is appreciated and any information which you may have regarding Rhodesian flags can be forwarded to Bruce at [email protected] or by mail to P O Box 836, Pinegowrie, 2123, South Africa and Chris at [email protected] or by mail to P.O. Box 22034, Mesa, AZ 85277-2034, USA.

This flag would have been used at the Nkomo Barracks HQ & is the sister flag that was presented to Lt. Col Chris Pearce (Officer Commanding) which is now in the RLI museum in Bedford (UK).

The Grey's flags were never made from cotton, only woven polyester to prevent rotting. This flag is double sided. There were only three made (one is in the Bedford RLI Museum). Ten single sided flags were made in the history of the unit with labels, and 4 of them are in the

Grey's Scouts Association along with the Regimental Colours.

This flag was hoisted at the flag raising ceremony was held at the District Commissioners Office in Wankie on 11 November 1968. The flag was raised, dedicated, taken down again and a second flag raised in its place. The “dedicated” flag was sealed in a government manilla envelope and held in the DC’s office strong room for 11 years before becoming coming into possession of the current owner. “Foxtrot” flag

28 x 61 cm ? Good Greg Koll(Kamloops, BC, Canada)

Purchased from a militaria dealer.

The 'Foxtrot' flag was made during the time of extended call-ups in 1977/8. F Coy were based in the Buhera Tribal Trust Lands and then Burma Valley through that period. The OC was Maj. 'Buster' Johnson of Marandellas. Jossy Feild, the wife of one of the serving officers, Lt. Simon Feild, did the artwork and 'Buster' Johnson's wife, Merle, was responsible for making the flags. After the extended call ups ended F

Coy ceased to exist and most of the men from F Coy then served under Maj. 'Buster' Johnson in A Coy - hence the reference in the A Coy flag to the foxes from F Coy days.
