DEAR GUESTWe would love for you to join us on the 31st of August to the 2nd of September for our annual Women’s Conference entitled Forever Real. Real is inspired by Psalm 37:11 which reads “Down-to-earth people will move in and take over, relishing a huge bonanza!” Another translation calls these people “meek” (they have a teachable spirit), another says “humble at heart”. We want to unpack this promise at this conference and gain a greater understanding of the biblical defi nition of being real.

God has promised in His word that if we are humble we have the promise of blessing, if we are proud we have the promise of destruction.

In Psalm 37:11 there is a promise of “abundant peace and prosperity”. In Phil 4:8 (MSG) there is the promise that if we “focus on what is true, authentic, the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly, things to praise, not things to curse - everything will work together for good and that He will work you into His most excellent harmonies”.

This so beautifully portrays our God; His authenticity and the certainty of our eternal inheritance.

God can be found in every moment - His presence, love, light and truth in all areas of life. In His presence we are fully equipped to be authentic children of God.

We want people to encounter Jesus, to be stirred, refreshed, and moved into an ever deepening relationship with Him, who is forever present in our lives.

We are excited and know you will be blessed by our Guest Speakers. See you there.

In a time when a nation is desperate for a message of hope and inspiration, but also, for a voice of morality and justice, Ps Ray has partnered with the Star newspaper, to bring such a voice to our nation. We believe that we have to remain relevant to our nation, and be able to influence the world around us. Doing this requires us taking the messages of hope, inspiration, morality and justice beyond the walls of the church, and out to those who would not have received it.

Pastor Ray discusses various issues that are facing our nation, and us as citizens of this country. Whether political, social or moral, these articles bring a sobering look into issues affecting us all. GEMA

GEMAGENDER EQUALITY MATTERS

GEMA is the acronym for Gender Equality Matters. GEMA is a department of Rhema Bible Church North and was established in Jan 2007 by Ps Xana McCauley. Rhema believes that women and men were created equally in the image of God and given equal authority and responsibility to rule and have dominion over the earth (Gen 1:26-28). As a church we acknowledge that God’s gifts are distributed as he pleases regardless of gender; we recognise, encourage and develop women and men to serve the Body of Christ side by side in an attitude of mutual submission.

GEMA teaches mutual submission in marriage, pointing out that ‘head’ in the original text in Eph 5:23 had no connotations of authority or leadership but its intended meaning was ‘origin’. In the family neither spouse is to seek to dominate the other but rather serve and submit to one another (Eph 5:21); spouses are to learn to share the responsibilities of leadership on the basis of gifts, expertise and availability; and both mothers and fathers are to exercise leadership in the nurture, training, discipline and teaching of their children (Prov 1:8, Eph 6:1-4).

Workshops, Group Discussions and Conferences are help throughout the year. For more info contact [email protected] 011-796-4000

Hands of Compassion is a Christian Community co-founded by Ps Alan and Ps Xana McCauley in February 1987. It is a registered non-profi t organization and public benefi t organization (registration number 000-273 NPO) which does extensive charitable and social work in Gauteng.

There are a number of projects run through Hands of Compassion.

Women and Children

• New Mothers ProjectUnwed mothers and their babies are placed in this programme for a period of up to eight months. They are counselled on motherhood and are supported to make the right choices for their newborn babies. During this critical time the women are surrounded by a team of caring people who are committed to seeing them successfully continue with their lives.

• Child and Youth Care Centre We have a registered Children’s Home which is dedicated to meeting the physical, spiritual and social needs of 36 children at risk who are placed with us by the Children’s Court, by providing:

• Accommodation• Food, clothing and other necessities• Medical Care• Education• Counselling• Sport and Recreation

Reconciliation andCommunity Building

• Hands of Compassion CommunityA vibrant mix of up to 120 people from all walks of life live communally in order to be a witness of reconciliation in the new South Africa. We believe in living simply so that others may simply live.

People in Crisis

• Rhema Recovery ProjectThis is our six-month live-in revovery programme for substance abusers, offering a “halfway house” where spiritual and emotional support is given. In working and learning a variety of life skills, residents have time to prepare to be re-integrated into society. Families are reconciled and a follow-up system is in place once the resident leaves the programme.

• Crisis Response TeamThe HOC team is often approached to assist with people in crisis. A team is on call for people who are in need, including victims of fi res, fl oods, evictions and other disasters. Blankets, clothes and food are taken to hurting people. Giving practical help creates a platform to share God’s love and concern for others. The HOC team is part of a bigger network of role-players in crisis-response, called the Disaster Relief Committee.

• Emergency House A house on the church property has been set aside to provide emergency accommodation for people in distress. When destitute people arrive at Rhema Church they are accommodated for short periods of time and provided with meals and counselling. There is a network with other organizations to help with more permanent solutions.

• Soup KitchensWe have 60 feeding projects through which some 60,000 meals are distributed each month; soup kitchens are located in various disadvantaged areas in the Greater Johannesburg region. Many of them are run by members of the Rhema congregation who themselves live in these areas and are willing volunteers that help the poor. Soup kitchen leaders are supplied with food vouchers and donated food which they then use in the area.

• Drop-off ZoneA venue is provided for donors to drop-off food and clothing which are re-distributed to those in need.

Empowerment and Training

• Chefs Training ProgrammeWe empower disadvantaged youth to become professional chefs. The trainees are enrolled for a 2 year course at Intec College; their practical experience is gained at Hands of Compassion, in restaurants and lodges in our area.

Primary Health Clinics

• We have established three primary health clinics in partnership with the Department of Health: the Hands of Compassion clinic in Nooitgedacht, the Eyethu Yarona clinic at the Thabo Mbeki settlement and the Ethafeni clinic in Tembisa. They offer a full range of primary health care services and are staffed by health professionals who give free medical treatment to hundreds of poor people daily.

The Neighbourhood

• Our most recent project is a multi-purpose facility for various community and church related activities, including a multi-site, social outreaches, training and empowerment programmes; sports and recreation.
