SHELL CONSTRUCTIONThe High Protection gloves utilise High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) fabric specifically designed to protect hands from cuts, abrasion & puncture hazards. The shell is manufactured at different gauges to provide additional dexterity if required.

COATINGSEach coating delivers unique properties designed for specific applications, with different materials and coverings for each environment.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT GLOVE FOR THE JOBThe High Protection Red range is specially designed to protect hands from cuts, abrasions & puncture hazards. These gloves are machine knitted with strong Polyethylene fibres for greater protection.

The woven shell comes in a range of gauges depending on the level of dexterity your work requires. The higher the gauge, the thinner the glove, providing the touch and feel for those more delicate tasks.

There are 5 different types of glove coatings plus an uncoated style to enhance performance for any application. Coatings are available in Palm Coat, ¾ Coat and Full Coat to provide the best solution for your environment.

COMFORT, DEXTERITY, GRIP & PROTECTION. THAT’S THE RAPTA FLEX DIFFERENCE!The Rapta Flex system differentiates high risk from general purpose applications and also incorporates a colour coded “coating” system. Different glove coatings have varying performance levels in different environments - repelling oil or water, providing grip and dexterity as well as all-day comfort.

Nitrile Foam (Black)This coating is applied by spraying the glove shell with Nitrile particles allowing this porous coating to become breathable for greater comfort. Nitrile foam coatings have good all round grip in dry or wet environments, however they are susceptible to liquid penetration in extremely wet conditions.

Nitrile Flat (Black)This coating differs to foam coatings, Nitrile flat coatings are applied by dipping the glove shell into the Nitrile medium which creates an instant resistant barrier to liquids and oils. This coating is non-breathable but has excellent abrasion and puncture resistance compared to other coatings.

Latex Wrinkle (Blue)This coating is also applied through a dipping process, forming a non-breathable barrier that has a very high resistance to water (better than Nitrile), but is less effective against oil (Nitrile is superior). The ripple effect of the coating provides excellent grip in wet (water) or dry conditions.

Latex Foam (Turquoise)This unique coating is sprayed onto the glove shell to give a breathable finish and has very high grip performance in dry conditions. This sticky grip quality is ideal for working with small parts and fasteners, however loses this quality if moisture or oil is present (Nitrile Foam is a better option).

Polyurethane - PU (Grey)Polyurethane (PU) is the original and lowest cost option in glove coatings. PU is a thin and flexible coating material that performs well in dry conditions. Due to the thinner nature of the coating, it provides good dexterity and feel for the wearer, however, is less effective in wet conditions.

Changes to the EN388 Symbol

*ASTM F1790 & ISO 13997 Test Methods

UNDERSTANDING EN388 MECHANICAL STANDARDSThe EN388 testing procedure for gloves, measures performance against different mechanical hazards.

ABRASION RESISTANCE (A): Ability of the glove material, to withstand contact from an abrasive spinning disc. This test measures protection against abrasive surfaces, as well as demonstrating the durability and longevity of the glove. RATINGS 1-4.

COUP CUT RESISTANCE (C): Ability of the glove material, to withstand a cutting wheel slicing through after a number of cycles. This test measures the cut resistance of the glove material, which relates to the level of protection provided by the glove. RATINGS 1-5.

TEAR RESISTANCE (T): Ability of the glove material, to withstand force required to break the glove in a stretch test. This test measures the strength of the glove under stress, of which higher levels can sometimes become a hazard if caught in machinery. RATINGS 1-4.

PUNCTURE RESISTANCE (P): Ability of the glove material, to withstand force from a sharp probe to break through. This test measures protection against puncture hazards, acting as a barrier of resistance against injury. RATINGS 1-4.

Due to the ability of cut resistant materials to dull the blade during the Coup Cut test, in 2016, the EN388:2016 Mechanical Risks Standard for gloves was redesigned to include additional tests for cut and impact resistance:

ISO CUT RESISTANCE (S): Ability of the glove material, to withstand a single motion cutting blade slicing through under force. This test also measures the cut resistance of the glove material, without being impacted by the dulling blade effect of the Coup Cut test. This additional test also relates to the level of protection provided by the glove. RATINGS A-F.

IMPACT RESISTANCE (I): This option test relates to gloves with additional protective properties on the palm, back of hand, or across the knuckles. It is a flat Pass (P) or Fail (F) test method that determines if sufficient force is prevented from travelling through the glove. RATINGS P or F.

The ISO Cut test and Coup Cut test are quite different in the way they are administered. They are both applied using different methods and as a result are not directly linked. Therefore, a result from either test does not automatically qualify a result in the other, however below is a rough guide:
