Revised Interim Silver Lake Bank Planting Plan
General Electric Company (GE) has developed a proposed revised planting plan for the restoration of the banks along the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake (ie the Recreational Areas) which was originally presented in GErsquos Final Removal DesignRemoval Action Work Plan for Silver Lake Area (Final Work Plan) These revisions were occasioned by
bull Plans of Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) to install a solar power facility on its property to the north of Silver Lake Boulevard
bull A memorandum from the Natural Resource Trustees (Trustees) dated March 22 2010 with comments on GErsquos original planting plan in light of WMECorsquos solar facility plans and
bull Comments from the US Environmental Protection Agency the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Trustees dated August 10 2010 regarding draft proposed modifications to the originally proposed planting plan
This document describes the components of the Recreational Area bank planting plan provides a list of the selected plant types and species and details area-specific planting locations and configurations including information regarding the assimilation of the related plan for the walking path and benches to be installed within a portion of the Recreational Areas Additional details are included on the attached Drawings C-103 and C-502 Complete details of the entire restoration plan for the Recreational Areas will be provided in a revised Final Work Plan to be submitted in November 2010
Overall Approach
The Final Work Plan proposed installation of a single row of trees at the approximate top of bank as well as certain shrub specimens in various configurations along the entire length of the walking path to be installed on the approximate top of bank on a portion of the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake Due to the potential for such trees to shade the planned solar power facility the Trusteesrsquo March 22 2010 memorandum specified 4 acceptable options for a modified planting plan GE selected a combination of the Trusteesrsquo options 2 and 3 which were to
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the north side of the path where feasible and
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the south side of the path (between the walking path and Silver Lake) but leaving gap openings in front of the proposed benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
The resulting revised planting plan includes installation of the following vegetation as discussed further below
bull A single row of taller trees along portions of the lake shore (on the eastern and northwestern shores) where they will not interfere with WEMCorsquos solar facility plans
bull Single or double rows of shrubs along the top of the armor stone associated with the sediment cap

bull 26 oblong patches of shrubs along the extent of the walking path on the northern shore of the lake
bull Clustered trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in 31 dense clumps on the northern and southern sides of the path between Stations 0+00 and 16+00 where feasible with gaps maintained in front of the proposed bench locations to allow an unobstructed view of the lake and
bull Upland and wetland herbaceous ground cover seed mixes
Significant modifications to the original planting plan include
bull Replacement of the single line of taller tree species along the northern shore of the lake with dense clumps of shorter species trees and shrubs (as shown on Drawing C-103) including
- 4 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 0+00
- 2 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 16+00 and
- 25 clumps installed to the south of the walking path between Station 0+00 and 16+00 but leaving gaps in front of benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
bull Removal of 103 tall trees from the plan
bull Addition of 193 short treesshrubs to the plan
bull Removal of a bench that was previously located at path Station 14+65+
Short TreeShrub Species
Short trees and shrubs will be planted in a variety of configurations including single and double rows oblong patches and dense clumps Shrub species to be installed in rows andor oblong patches include red-osier dogwood (cornus sericea) northern arrowwood (viburnum recognitum) and winterberry holly (ilex verticillata) Based on recommendations from the Trustees and commercial availability treeshrub clump species have been selected for both upland (dry soil species) and wetland (moist soil species) areas as summarized in the table below Upland and wetland areas will be distinguished by the delineation of Bordering Vegetated Wetland areas around Silver Lake at an approximate elevation of 9800 feet (as shown on Drawing C-103)

Short tree and shrub species will be installed in the following arrangements
bull A double row of shrubs consisting of a mixture of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the northwestern shore of the lake adjacent to Fourth Street and from the end of the walking path (ie Station 20+0294) to the end of the Recreational Areas near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and East Street
bull A single row of red-osier dogwoods will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the walking path between Station 0+00 and Station 10+50 and between Station 13+60 and the end of the walking path
bull Dense clumps of shrubs (31 total) will be planted on both the northern and southern sides of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 Each clump will include 4 to 10 plants consisting of a random mix of the species listed in the table above (depending on the soil type)
bull Oblong patches of shrubs (26 total) will be planted on the southern side of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 These patches will be approximately 10 feet wide by 20 feet long (oriented so the long axis parallels the lake bank) and generally spaced so that there is approximately 50 feet between patches Each patch will include approximately 16 plants consisting of an equal mix of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly with no more than 6 of one species per patch
bull Individual specimens in the single and double rows of shrubs described above will be planted on approximate 4-foot centers
bull Individual specimens in the oblong patches and dense short treeshrub clusters described above will be planted on approximate 5-foot centers
Other pertinent specifications for the short trees and shrubs installed in the walking path area from Station 0+00 to Station 20+0294 are
bull Maximum plant heights for treesshrubs between Station 0+00 and Station 16+00 will not exceed 20 feet at full maturity
bull Viewsheds associated with the 9 remaining bench locations proposed in the Final Work Plan will be maintained
Canopy Tree Species
Tall tree species will be planted in a single row along the eastern end of the lake and along the northwestern end of the lake immediately adjacent to Fourth Street Selected tree species will include (but not be limited to) black willow (Salix nigra) silver maple (Acer saccharinum) red oak (Quercus rubra) red maple (Acer rubrum) and eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids) Installed trees will have a minimum height of 10 feet with an approximate spacing of 12 feet on center and will be installed at the approximate top of bank (ie further up the bank from the shrubs) (An initial assessment of the commercial availability of the above-listed tree species indicates that silver maple red oak and red maple

are available at a minimum height of 10rsquo during the spring planting season but that it is uncommon to find commercially available black willow or eastern cottonwood of that size) GE will restrict the selected Remediation Contractor from using tree species that are either cultivars or hybrids Complete details related to tree planting are included on the attached drawings
Miscellaneous Planting Details
bull All trees and shrubs will be watered upon installation and thereafter as necessary for plant survival
bull Coconut coir erosion controlweed suppression mats will be placed around all installed tree and shrub plants Bark mulch may be substituted such mats for any plantings on relatively level terrain
bull All installed trees and shrubs will be a minimum of 6 feet from the walking path andor 8 feet from the edge of Silver Lake Boulevard or Fourth Street (except that if there is not sufficient space to maintain that distance from the edge of the paved roadway of Fourth Street trees will not be planted) Short treesshrubs installed along the walking path will not encroach on the available space between the benches and the lake
bull Bordering Vegetated Wetland delineation (ie approximate elevation of 9800 feet) will be flagged in the field (post-construction) to distinguish between upland and wetland areas and guide the selection of treeshrub species and appropriate ground cover seed mix

Revised Interim Silver Lake Bank Planting Plan
General Electric Company (GE) has developed a proposed revised planting plan for the restoration of the banks along the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake (ie the Recreational Areas) which was originally presented in GErsquos Final Removal DesignRemoval Action Work Plan for Silver Lake Area (Final Work Plan) These revisions were occasioned by
bull Plans of Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) to install a solar power facility on its property to the north of Silver Lake Boulevard
bull A memorandum from the Natural Resource Trustees (Trustees) dated March 22 2010 with comments on GErsquos original planting plan in light of WMECorsquos solar facility plans and
bull Comments from the US Environmental Protection Agency the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Trustees dated August 10 2010 regarding draft proposed modifications to the originally proposed planting plan
This document describes the components of the Recreational Area bank planting plan provides a list of the selected plant types and species and details area-specific planting locations and configurations including information regarding the assimilation of the related plan for the walking path and benches to be installed within a portion of the Recreational Areas Additional details are included on the attached Drawings C-103 and C-502 Complete details of the entire restoration plan for the Recreational Areas will be provided in a revised Final Work Plan to be submitted in November 2010
Overall Approach
The Final Work Plan proposed installation of a single row of trees at the approximate top of bank as well as certain shrub specimens in various configurations along the entire length of the walking path to be installed on the approximate top of bank on a portion of the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake Due to the potential for such trees to shade the planned solar power facility the Trusteesrsquo March 22 2010 memorandum specified 4 acceptable options for a modified planting plan GE selected a combination of the Trusteesrsquo options 2 and 3 which were to
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the north side of the path where feasible and
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the south side of the path (between the walking path and Silver Lake) but leaving gap openings in front of the proposed benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
The resulting revised planting plan includes installation of the following vegetation as discussed further below
bull A single row of taller trees along portions of the lake shore (on the eastern and northwestern shores) where they will not interfere with WEMCorsquos solar facility plans
bull Single or double rows of shrubs along the top of the armor stone associated with the sediment cap

bull 26 oblong patches of shrubs along the extent of the walking path on the northern shore of the lake
bull Clustered trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in 31 dense clumps on the northern and southern sides of the path between Stations 0+00 and 16+00 where feasible with gaps maintained in front of the proposed bench locations to allow an unobstructed view of the lake and
bull Upland and wetland herbaceous ground cover seed mixes
Significant modifications to the original planting plan include
bull Replacement of the single line of taller tree species along the northern shore of the lake with dense clumps of shorter species trees and shrubs (as shown on Drawing C-103) including
- 4 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 0+00
- 2 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 16+00 and
- 25 clumps installed to the south of the walking path between Station 0+00 and 16+00 but leaving gaps in front of benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
bull Removal of 103 tall trees from the plan
bull Addition of 193 short treesshrubs to the plan
bull Removal of a bench that was previously located at path Station 14+65+
Short TreeShrub Species
Short trees and shrubs will be planted in a variety of configurations including single and double rows oblong patches and dense clumps Shrub species to be installed in rows andor oblong patches include red-osier dogwood (cornus sericea) northern arrowwood (viburnum recognitum) and winterberry holly (ilex verticillata) Based on recommendations from the Trustees and commercial availability treeshrub clump species have been selected for both upland (dry soil species) and wetland (moist soil species) areas as summarized in the table below Upland and wetland areas will be distinguished by the delineation of Bordering Vegetated Wetland areas around Silver Lake at an approximate elevation of 9800 feet (as shown on Drawing C-103)

Short tree and shrub species will be installed in the following arrangements
bull A double row of shrubs consisting of a mixture of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the northwestern shore of the lake adjacent to Fourth Street and from the end of the walking path (ie Station 20+0294) to the end of the Recreational Areas near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and East Street
bull A single row of red-osier dogwoods will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the walking path between Station 0+00 and Station 10+50 and between Station 13+60 and the end of the walking path
bull Dense clumps of shrubs (31 total) will be planted on both the northern and southern sides of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 Each clump will include 4 to 10 plants consisting of a random mix of the species listed in the table above (depending on the soil type)
bull Oblong patches of shrubs (26 total) will be planted on the southern side of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 These patches will be approximately 10 feet wide by 20 feet long (oriented so the long axis parallels the lake bank) and generally spaced so that there is approximately 50 feet between patches Each patch will include approximately 16 plants consisting of an equal mix of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly with no more than 6 of one species per patch
bull Individual specimens in the single and double rows of shrubs described above will be planted on approximate 4-foot centers
bull Individual specimens in the oblong patches and dense short treeshrub clusters described above will be planted on approximate 5-foot centers
Other pertinent specifications for the short trees and shrubs installed in the walking path area from Station 0+00 to Station 20+0294 are
bull Maximum plant heights for treesshrubs between Station 0+00 and Station 16+00 will not exceed 20 feet at full maturity
bull Viewsheds associated with the 9 remaining bench locations proposed in the Final Work Plan will be maintained
Canopy Tree Species
Tall tree species will be planted in a single row along the eastern end of the lake and along the northwestern end of the lake immediately adjacent to Fourth Street Selected tree species will include (but not be limited to) black willow (Salix nigra) silver maple (Acer saccharinum) red oak (Quercus rubra) red maple (Acer rubrum) and eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids) Installed trees will have a minimum height of 10 feet with an approximate spacing of 12 feet on center and will be installed at the approximate top of bank (ie further up the bank from the shrubs) (An initial assessment of the commercial availability of the above-listed tree species indicates that silver maple red oak and red maple

Miscellaneous Planting Details
bull All trees and shrubs will be watered upon installation and thereafter as necessary for plant survival
bull Coconut coir erosion controlweed suppression mats will be placed around all installed tree and shrub plants Bark mulch may be substituted such mats for any plantings on relatively level terrain
bull All installed trees and shrubs will be a minimum of 6 feet from the walking path andor 8 feet from the edge of Silver Lake Boulevard or Fourth Street (except that if there is not sufficient space to maintain that distance from the edge of the paved roadway of Fourth Street trees will not be planted) Short treesshrubs installed along the walking path will not encroach on the available space between the benches and the lake
bull Bordering Vegetated Wetland delineation (ie approximate elevation of 9800 feet) will be flagged in the field (post-construction) to distinguish between upland and wetland areas and guide the selection of treeshrub species and appropriate ground cover seed mix

Revised Interim Silver Lake Bank Planting Plan
General Electric Company (GE) has developed a proposed revised planting plan for the restoration of the banks along the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake (ie the Recreational Areas) which was originally presented in GErsquos Final Removal DesignRemoval Action Work Plan for Silver Lake Area (Final Work Plan) These revisions were occasioned by
bull Plans of Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) to install a solar power facility on its property to the north of Silver Lake Boulevard
bull A memorandum from the Natural Resource Trustees (Trustees) dated March 22 2010 with comments on GErsquos original planting plan in light of WMECorsquos solar facility plans and
bull Comments from the US Environmental Protection Agency the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Trustees dated August 10 2010 regarding draft proposed modifications to the originally proposed planting plan
This document describes the components of the Recreational Area bank planting plan provides a list of the selected plant types and species and details area-specific planting locations and configurations including information regarding the assimilation of the related plan for the walking path and benches to be installed within a portion of the Recreational Areas Additional details are included on the attached Drawings C-103 and C-502 Complete details of the entire restoration plan for the Recreational Areas will be provided in a revised Final Work Plan to be submitted in November 2010
Overall Approach
The Final Work Plan proposed installation of a single row of trees at the approximate top of bank as well as certain shrub specimens in various configurations along the entire length of the walking path to be installed on the approximate top of bank on a portion of the northern and eastern shores of Silver Lake Due to the potential for such trees to shade the planned solar power facility the Trusteesrsquo March 22 2010 memorandum specified 4 acceptable options for a modified planting plan GE selected a combination of the Trusteesrsquo options 2 and 3 which were to
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the north side of the path where feasible and
bull Cluster trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in dense clumps on the south side of the path (between the walking path and Silver Lake) but leaving gap openings in front of the proposed benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
The resulting revised planting plan includes installation of the following vegetation as discussed further below
bull A single row of taller trees along portions of the lake shore (on the eastern and northwestern shores) where they will not interfere with WEMCorsquos solar facility plans
bull Single or double rows of shrubs along the top of the armor stone associated with the sediment cap

bull 26 oblong patches of shrubs along the extent of the walking path on the northern shore of the lake
bull Clustered trees and shrubs less than 20 feet in height at maturity in 31 dense clumps on the northern and southern sides of the path between Stations 0+00 and 16+00 where feasible with gaps maintained in front of the proposed bench locations to allow an unobstructed view of the lake and
bull Upland and wetland herbaceous ground cover seed mixes
Significant modifications to the original planting plan include
bull Replacement of the single line of taller tree species along the northern shore of the lake with dense clumps of shorter species trees and shrubs (as shown on Drawing C-103) including
- 4 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 0+00
- 2 clumps to the north of the walking path near Station 16+00 and
- 25 clumps installed to the south of the walking path between Station 0+00 and 16+00 but leaving gaps in front of benches to allow an unobstructed view of the lake
bull Removal of 103 tall trees from the plan
bull Addition of 193 short treesshrubs to the plan
bull Removal of a bench that was previously located at path Station 14+65+
Short TreeShrub Species
Short trees and shrubs will be planted in a variety of configurations including single and double rows oblong patches and dense clumps Shrub species to be installed in rows andor oblong patches include red-osier dogwood (cornus sericea) northern arrowwood (viburnum recognitum) and winterberry holly (ilex verticillata) Based on recommendations from the Trustees and commercial availability treeshrub clump species have been selected for both upland (dry soil species) and wetland (moist soil species) areas as summarized in the table below Upland and wetland areas will be distinguished by the delineation of Bordering Vegetated Wetland areas around Silver Lake at an approximate elevation of 9800 feet (as shown on Drawing C-103)

Short tree and shrub species will be installed in the following arrangements
bull A double row of shrubs consisting of a mixture of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the northwestern shore of the lake adjacent to Fourth Street and from the end of the walking path (ie Station 20+0294) to the end of the Recreational Areas near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and East Street
bull A single row of red-osier dogwoods will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the walking path between Station 0+00 and Station 10+50 and between Station 13+60 and the end of the walking path
bull Dense clumps of shrubs (31 total) will be planted on both the northern and southern sides of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 Each clump will include 4 to 10 plants consisting of a random mix of the species listed in the table above (depending on the soil type)
bull Oblong patches of shrubs (26 total) will be planted on the southern side of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 These patches will be approximately 10 feet wide by 20 feet long (oriented so the long axis parallels the lake bank) and generally spaced so that there is approximately 50 feet between patches Each patch will include approximately 16 plants consisting of an equal mix of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly with no more than 6 of one species per patch
bull Individual specimens in the single and double rows of shrubs described above will be planted on approximate 4-foot centers
bull Individual specimens in the oblong patches and dense short treeshrub clusters described above will be planted on approximate 5-foot centers
Other pertinent specifications for the short trees and shrubs installed in the walking path area from Station 0+00 to Station 20+0294 are
bull Maximum plant heights for treesshrubs between Station 0+00 and Station 16+00 will not exceed 20 feet at full maturity
bull Viewsheds associated with the 9 remaining bench locations proposed in the Final Work Plan will be maintained
Canopy Tree Species
Tall tree species will be planted in a single row along the eastern end of the lake and along the northwestern end of the lake immediately adjacent to Fourth Street Selected tree species will include (but not be limited to) black willow (Salix nigra) silver maple (Acer saccharinum) red oak (Quercus rubra) red maple (Acer rubrum) and eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids) Installed trees will have a minimum height of 10 feet with an approximate spacing of 12 feet on center and will be installed at the approximate top of bank (ie further up the bank from the shrubs) (An initial assessment of the commercial availability of the above-listed tree species indicates that silver maple red oak and red maple

Miscellaneous Planting Details
bull All trees and shrubs will be watered upon installation and thereafter as necessary for plant survival
bull Coconut coir erosion controlweed suppression mats will be placed around all installed tree and shrub plants Bark mulch may be substituted such mats for any plantings on relatively level terrain
bull All installed trees and shrubs will be a minimum of 6 feet from the walking path andor 8 feet from the edge of Silver Lake Boulevard or Fourth Street (except that if there is not sufficient space to maintain that distance from the edge of the paved roadway of Fourth Street trees will not be planted) Short treesshrubs installed along the walking path will not encroach on the available space between the benches and the lake
bull Bordering Vegetated Wetland delineation (ie approximate elevation of 9800 feet) will be flagged in the field (post-construction) to distinguish between upland and wetland areas and guide the selection of treeshrub species and appropriate ground cover seed mix

Short TreeShrub Species
Short trees and shrubs will be planted in a variety of configurations including single and double rows oblong patches and dense clumps Shrub species to be installed in rows andor oblong patches include red-osier dogwood (cornus sericea) northern arrowwood (viburnum recognitum) and winterberry holly (ilex verticillata) Based on recommendations from the Trustees and commercial availability treeshrub clump species have been selected for both upland (dry soil species) and wetland (moist soil species) areas as summarized in the table below Upland and wetland areas will be distinguished by the delineation of Bordering Vegetated Wetland areas around Silver Lake at an approximate elevation of 9800 feet (as shown on Drawing C-103)

Short tree and shrub species will be installed in the following arrangements
bull A double row of shrubs consisting of a mixture of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the northwestern shore of the lake adjacent to Fourth Street and from the end of the walking path (ie Station 20+0294) to the end of the Recreational Areas near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and East Street
bull A single row of red-osier dogwoods will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the walking path between Station 0+00 and Station 10+50 and between Station 13+60 and the end of the walking path
bull Dense clumps of shrubs (31 total) will be planted on both the northern and southern sides of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 Each clump will include 4 to 10 plants consisting of a random mix of the species listed in the table above (depending on the soil type)
bull Oblong patches of shrubs (26 total) will be planted on the southern side of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 These patches will be approximately 10 feet wide by 20 feet long (oriented so the long axis parallels the lake bank) and generally spaced so that there is approximately 50 feet between patches Each patch will include approximately 16 plants consisting of an equal mix of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly with no more than 6 of one species per patch
bull Individual specimens in the single and double rows of shrubs described above will be planted on approximate 4-foot centers
bull Individual specimens in the oblong patches and dense short treeshrub clusters described above will be planted on approximate 5-foot centers
Other pertinent specifications for the short trees and shrubs installed in the walking path area from Station 0+00 to Station 20+0294 are
bull Maximum plant heights for treesshrubs between Station 0+00 and Station 16+00 will not exceed 20 feet at full maturity
bull Viewsheds associated with the 9 remaining bench locations proposed in the Final Work Plan will be maintained
Canopy Tree Species
Tall tree species will be planted in a single row along the eastern end of the lake and along the northwestern end of the lake immediately adjacent to Fourth Street Selected tree species will include (but not be limited to) black willow (Salix nigra) silver maple (Acer saccharinum) red oak (Quercus rubra) red maple (Acer rubrum) and eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids) Installed trees will have a minimum height of 10 feet with an approximate spacing of 12 feet on center and will be installed at the approximate top of bank (ie further up the bank from the shrubs) (An initial assessment of the commercial availability of the above-listed tree species indicates that silver maple red oak and red maple

Short tree and shrub species will be installed in the following arrangements
bull A double row of shrubs consisting of a mixture of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the northwestern shore of the lake adjacent to Fourth Street and from the end of the walking path (ie Station 20+0294) to the end of the Recreational Areas near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and East Street
bull A single row of red-osier dogwoods will be installed at the top of the rip-rap along the walking path between Station 0+00 and Station 10+50 and between Station 13+60 and the end of the walking path
bull Dense clumps of shrubs (31 total) will be planted on both the northern and southern sides of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 Each clump will include 4 to 10 plants consisting of a random mix of the species listed in the table above (depending on the soil type)
bull Oblong patches of shrubs (26 total) will be planted on the southern side of the walking path between Stations 0+00 and 10+50 and between Stations 14+00 and 16+00 These patches will be approximately 10 feet wide by 20 feet long (oriented so the long axis parallels the lake bank) and generally spaced so that there is approximately 50 feet between patches Each patch will include approximately 16 plants consisting of an equal mix of red-osier dogwoods northern arrowwood and winterberry holly with no more than 6 of one species per patch
bull Individual specimens in the single and double rows of shrubs described above will be planted on approximate 4-foot centers
bull Individual specimens in the oblong patches and dense short treeshrub clusters described above will be planted on approximate 5-foot centers
Other pertinent specifications for the short trees and shrubs installed in the walking path area from Station 0+00 to Station 20+0294 are
bull Maximum plant heights for treesshrubs between Station 0+00 and Station 16+00 will not exceed 20 feet at full maturity
bull Viewsheds associated with the 9 remaining bench locations proposed in the Final Work Plan will be maintained
Canopy Tree Species
Tall tree species will be planted in a single row along the eastern end of the lake and along the northwestern end of the lake immediately adjacent to Fourth Street Selected tree species will include (but not be limited to) black willow (Salix nigra) silver maple (Acer saccharinum) red oak (Quercus rubra) red maple (Acer rubrum) and eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids) Installed trees will have a minimum height of 10 feet with an approximate spacing of 12 feet on center and will be installed at the approximate top of bank (ie further up the bank from the shrubs) (An initial assessment of the commercial availability of the above-listed tree species indicates that silver maple red oak and red maple
