About UWI The first of UWI’s five campuses began in
1948 at Mona, Jamaica, as a College of the
University of London. The St. Augustine
Campus in Trinidad & Tobago was added in
1961 and UWI achieved full university status
in 1962. St. Augustine was followed by
campuses at Cave Hill, Barbados (1963), the
Open Campus (2008), and the Five Islands

About The Registry The Registry is the information and
administrative center of the St Augustine
Campus and continuously pursues a process of
realigning itself to respond more effectively to
the needs of its various customers. The
successful candidate would be expected to
play a very active role in this process.
The Campus Registrar is the campus’s Chief
Administrative Officer. The following are

Registry Establishment The Campus Registrar is supported by a team
comprised of the following:

The University of the West Indies, St.
Augustine Campus is seeking an effective and
motivated individual, with a mix of energy and
focus, to join the Campus Registry Team.
Tenure of Appointment Appointment as Assistant Registrar will
normally be for (3) years in the first
instance, with eligibility for renewal.
Subsequent to the first appointment, a
member of staff who has served
for a period of six (6) years will be eligible for
consideration for appointment on indefinite
tenure.

Research and Development The University of the West Indies supports the
research and professional development
activities of regular members of staff by
providing study leave, special leave for
scholarly purposes, and sabbatical leave, as
well as offering funding for institutional visits
and conference participation.

Assistant
Registrar,
Graduate Studies
and Research The Assistant Registrar Graduate Studies &
Research is responsible for all administrative
matters relating to post graduate students and
related research. These responsibilities include
all activities which pertain to attracting
applicants, directing the process for persons
seeking entry to graduate programmes, the
registration process, the examination process,
student retention, processing applications and
coordinating the award of all scholarships and
award of degrees by the University and
servicing various meetings including that of the
Campus Committee for Graduate Studies and
Research.
The Assistant Registrar will report to the
Campus Registrar through the Deputy Campus
Registrar and maintain a good working
relationship with the Director, School for
Graduate Studies and Research. The initial
appointment will be in the Graduate Studies
and Research Section with the possibility of
rotations across other sections of the Registry.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess
postgraduate qualifications, which should be in
Social Sciences or a related discipline, from a
recognized university.
Candidates should also possess:
A minimum of six (6) years’ experience at
the senior supervisory level, preferably in
a higher education environment
At least five (5) years’ experience with
Enterprise Management Systems (SAS
Banner and PeopleSoft)
Candidates with the following would have an
advantage:
Knowledge and experience within the UWI
system and familiarity with the
governance structure
Experience managing a Customer
Relationship Management system
Established track record of meeting
enrollment targets.
Special Responsibilities
• Developing, implementing, maintaining,
supervising, and assessing recruitment
strategies for prospective graduate students
• Identifying and selecting enrollment growth
opportunities
• Planning and conducting the annual
registration and enrollment of students
accepted for Graduate programmes
• Working closely with Faculties to assess
application and selection requirements, and
ensuring applications and selection
mechanisms meet the needs of programmes
and internal systems
• Working closely with Faculties to develop
instruments to expand access to and delivery
of existing programmes
• Advertising, processing applications and
coordinating the award of all scholarships
and awards by the University and other
donors
• Preparing agendas and papers and servicing
meetings of the Campus Committee for
Graduate Studies and Research, taking
follow‐up action and informing
Faculties/Departments of decisions taken at
these meetings
• Preparing agendas and papers and servicing
meetings of the Campus Scholarship and
Research & Publications Fund Committees,

taking follow‐up action and informing
Faculties/Departments of decisions taken at
these meetings
• Processing of all student matters/student
petitions for consideration by Heads of
Department/Deans/ Deputy Deans
• Processing of examination irregularities,
remarking of scripts, review of scripts and
requests for consultation with staff
• Developing rolling retention plans using
resources from across the Graduate
programmes to create an actionable set of
retention measures
• Arranging for theses, project reports, oral
examinations and all matters relating to the
conduct of examinations
• Servicing the Board of Examiners Meetings
and conveying the decisions of Examiners’
Meetings to candidates
• Processing of awards for postgraduate
certificate, diplomas and degrees and
preparation of Pass Lists for all graduate
programmes
• Serving as the principal source of
information on Graduate Studies and
Research policies and procedures, and
providing guidance to faculty, students and
staff
• Ensuring compliance with University
Graduate Studies and Research policies and
procedures and applicable legal rules and
regulations with respect to students' rights
to privacy
• Assisting in drafting recommended
improvements to the Graduate Studies and
Research policies and procedures
• Maintaining and updating of all
Postgraduate Student Records via the
student enterprise system
• Managing all relevant Banner related
matters
• Preparation of visa letters and status letters
• Supervising staff to ensure the effective
running of the Section
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the
Campus Registrar

The Office of the Campus Registrar places high

Remuneration
Package
Annual Salary Range: Assistant Registrar III:
Minimum ‐ TT$299,916.00 per annum
Maximum ‐ TT$333,456.00 per annum
Assistant Registrar II:
Minimum ‐ TT$239,544.00 per annum
Maximum ‐ TT$279,792.00 per annum
Benefits: Special allowance of 6% of basic salary;
Transportation Allowance of TT$3,250.00
per month;
Unfurnished accommodation at 10% or
furnished at 12½% of basic salary, or
housing allowance of 20% of basic salary to
staff making own housing arrangements;
UWI contribution of equivalent of 10% of
basic salary to Superannuation Scheme;
Annual Study and Travel Grant (available
after first year of service); ‐TT$20,717.00
per annum
Institutional Visit Allowance –
TT$7,200.00 per annum
Book Grant – TT$6,000.00 per annum
Contributory Health Insurance – 50%
