Copper and Plastic Tubing

Copper TubingType K, soft temper, copper water tubing remains

free from rusting and is highly resistant to corrosionand scale formation. It is easily bendable to conformto underground trenching and is conductive to enablethawing. At the water main, a long-radius bend shouldbe formed in the tube to allow for stresses and groundsettlement.

Plastic TubingThe use of polyethylene (PE) tubing has greatly

increased since its introduction in the late 1940’s. Theresin used today by most pipe and tubing producers isPE-3408 a high density polyethylene (HDPE) with highmolecular weight.

Tubing produced from PE-3408 achieves a pres-sure rating of 200 psi and is one of the strongest andmost durable tubing products available. PE-3408 isnearly chemically inert making it impervious to rot, rustor corrosion.

PE-3408 tubing is very flexible and comes in longcontinuous lengths which reduces the number of jointsand fittings needed thereby making a secure and long-lasting installation.

Copper Type K Soft

Type K, soft copper tubing, remains free from rusting and is highly resistant to corrosion and scale formation. Type K has a heavy wall thickness for underground ser-vices from the water main to the house connection. It is conductive to enable thawing and its flexibility allows it to conform to underground trenching.

Type K copper tubing is annealed to toughen and to remove internal stress. It is suitable for use with flared, compression and solder type fittings as long as rounding and sizing are performed.

* 1½" & 2" copper tubing in 20-foot lengths are straight lengths. All other above tubing comes in coils.

NOTE: See our Service Brass, Section G, for a complete line of fittings and valves for use with this tubing.

SHORT SPEC:Copper tubing shall meet the requirements of Federal Specification WW-T 7996 and shall conform to ASTM specifications B-75, B-88 and B-68 as they apply to Type K Copper Tubing.

HDPE Tubing High Molecular Weight

Polyethylene Tubing has many distinct advantages over other types of service pipe. It will not rust, rot or corrode. It has exceptional toughness, excellent resistance to abrasion and will flex repeatedly without damage. CTS Polyethylene Tubing is designed for 200 P.S.I. IPS Polyethylene is offered in four different working pressures 100, 125, 160 and 200 P.S.I.

Its pressure rating remains unaffected by mild nicks and scratches that may occur during installation. The tub-ing will not crack or split at subzero temperatures, even if filled with ice. The insulating qualities of Polyethylene help to prevent water from freezing inside the pipe. Should freezing occur, thawing should be done with steam or hot air, not with direct flame.

SHORT SPEC:Copper Tube Size (CTS) Polyethylene shall have a working pressure rating of 200 P.S.I. and shall conform to AWWA C901, ASTM D3350 and ASTM D2737. Iron Pipe Size (IPS) Polyethylene shall have a working pres-sure of 160 P.S.I. and shall conform to AWWA C901, ASTM D3350 and ASTM D2239.

Combo Flaring & Rounding Tool

We have redesigned the standard rounding tool by adding more gripping area and by knurling the handle, which assures a positive grip and safer operation. Drive the tool part way in to round, or all the way in to flare.

The tubing end has been extended for better round-ing and bored out to reduce weight. Machined pressure relief ports are added to prevent the tool from rebounding should back-pressure develop during either the rounding or flaring process.

¾" through 2" sizes are available and feature black oxide finish to inhibit corrosion.

PE Water Service Shutoff Tool

Designed for emergency shutoff of PE water services. Hinged at one end with a snap lock device that can be taken apart quickly to allow work in confined areas. Open end has latch to hold tool closed until the repair is made. Zinc plated for corrosion resistance.

Standing Shutoff Tool

Reed's Standing Shutoff Tool compresses ¾" to 1" PE plastic tubes to stop the flow of water. The tool uses 30" handles to develop a clamping force in a manner similar to a pair of bolt cutters. The long handles make for easy shutoff with a chain to hold the tool closed. Not intended for gas service lines.
