THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Through the recommendation of the Philippine Association of Educators in Office
Administration (PAEOA), formerly Philippine Association of Secretarial Educators
(PASE), and the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the College
of Secretarial Administration in now known as the College of Office Administration.
It aims to educate students with the fundamental principles, knowledge, skills,
and values required in the practice of Office Administration through a systematic and
updated curricula and progressive and creative methods of instruction.
Students of this course are taught basic business principles, computer
fundamentals, techniques to personality development, and other relevant general
scientific and artistic knowledge that will prepare them for entry level jobs in office
management.
Completion of the two-year program of this course will earn the student a title
"Associate in Office Administration". A graduate of Associate in Office Administration is
eventually qualified to take the additional units needed to complete a four-year course
leading to a degree in Bachelor of Science in Office Administration.

Background of the Study
The year was 1978. Amable R. Aguiluz V., fourth son and namesake of Amable
M. Aguiluz (1913-1977) who was the former Auditor General during the Macapagal
administration, formed a distributorship in Manila for "Computerland". The firm became
one of the main distributors of Apple Computer in the Philippines. It became one of the
venues by which advancements made in Computer Science and Technology was
absorbed in the Philippine industrial life.
Due to the Filipinos' deep hunger for computer education, AMAICS founder
Amable M. Aguiluz opened AMA Computer College(AMACC) the center for degree
courses, and years later AMA Computer Learning Center (ACLC) started its operation in
June 1987, but it was in the year 1990 that expansion took place. In the year 1991
ACLC has grown in number with 18 branches in full operation nationwide, from four
during the previous year.

Theoretical Framework
The importance of education is quite clear. Education is the knowledge of putting
one's potentials to maximum use. One can safely say that a human being is not in the
proper sense till he is educated.
This importance of education is basically for two reasons. The first is that the
training of a human mind is not complete without education. Education makes man a
right thinker. It tells man how to think and how to make decision.
The second reason for the importance of education is that only through the
attainment of education, man is enabled to receive information from the external world;
to acquaint himself with past history and receive all necessary information regarding the
present. Without education, man is as though in a closed room and with education he
finds himself in a room with all its windows open towards outside world.
Today there many campaigns aimed at promoting the importance of completing
college. The government has created laws to insure that the students must attend
school until they are of a certain age. However despite these efforts, many people will
not receive their high school diploma.
Sometimes it is difficult to see the exact value of your education. However
finishing high school is an asset that everyone with the opportunity should take full
advantage of. Just finishing high school alone opens up thousands more opportunities
for individuals. When entering a specific field within the job market, it is often required
that the applicant has a high school diploma. Therefore, many times without the high
7/27/2019 Reviewing the Program Curriculum
7/43
school diploma, a person is restricted to a smaller number of occupations for which they
are qualified for.
College teaches students to learn. It gives them a background in many different
subjects and methods of learning. learning how to read at a young age will allow the
student to be able to learn through reading books for the rest of their lives. Reading,
writing , simple mathematics and an understanding of how the world works are all very
important skills for a person who is living in our world today.
A college education opens up opportunities for people. It gives student the
experience and the confidence that they will be able to use in many life situations.
Attending high school gives students opportunities to express themselves and to learn
about other people and their ideas. Having the knowledge obtained in high school often
gives people confidence later in life when they are dealing with the public. It can give a
person confidence in the way that they view their abilities later in life.
Education encompasses teaching and learning specific skills, and also
something less tangible but more profound: the imparting of knowledge, positive
judgment and well-developed wisdom. Education has as one of its fundamental aspects
the imparting of culture from generation to generation (see socialization). Education
means 'to draw out', facilitating realisation of self-potential and latent talents of an
individual. It is an application of pedagogy, a body of theoretical and applied research
relating to teaching and learning and draws on many disciplines such as psychology,
philosophy, computer science, linguistics, neuroscience, sociology and anthropology.

The education of an individual human begins at birth and continues throughout
life. (Some believe that education begins even before birth, as evidenced by some
parents' playing music or reading to the baby in the womb in the hope it will influence
the child's development.) For some, the struggles and triumphs of daily life provide far
more instruction than does formal schooling (thus Mark Twain's admonition to "never let
school interfere with your education"). Family members may have a profound
educational effect often more profound than they realize though family teaching
may function very informally.

Hypothesis of the study
One's individual development and the capacity to fulfill one's own purposes can
depend on an adequate preparation in childhood. Education can thus attempt to give a
firm foundation for the achievement of personal fulfillment. The better the foundation
that is built, the more successful the child will be. Simple basics in education can carry a
child far. And thus, parents is greatest influence to every childs dream and they can
affect and command their children to what they want to take up in college.
And thus this research proves that there is a significant relationship between the
childrens choice of course from their parents choice of course for their children.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
RELATED LITERATURE
While a college degree is not always necessary to become an office
administrator, an associate's degree will certainly open up a wide range of career
opportunities. Graduates of an associate's degree program in office administration often
pursue careers as office managers, executive assistants and medical or legal
secretaries.
Other than certificate programs, an associate's degree is the most commonly
earned degree that leads to a career in office administration. Students of this two-year
degree program learn important skills, such as basic accounting, computer applications,
communication skills, document preparation and office procedures and ethics.
Coursework and real-world opportunities will focus heavily on computer training and
other office technologies, including the commonly used software applications
QuickBooks, Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software.
Students seeking employment in a medical or legal office may also choose
electives that target skills that are unique to these areas. In preparation for a career as
an executive assistant or office manager, students may learn the basics of appointment
scheduling, making travel arrangements, proofreading and managing records. It is
important that students pursuing a career in office administration are able to keep pace
in a busy office environment and adapt to constantly changing technology.

Conceptual literature
In some ways, Associate in Business Administration has finally achieved the
Enlightenment aspiration to create a logic of uncertainty. Statistical tools are at work in
almost every area of life, including agriculture, business, engineering, medicine, law,
regulation, and social policy, as well as in the physical, biological, and social sciences
and even in parts of the academic humanities. The replacement of human computers
with mechanical and then electronic ones in the 20th century greatly lightened the
immense burdens of calculation that statistical analysis once required. Statistical tests
are used to assess whether observed results, such as increased harvests where
fertilizer is applied, or improved earnings where early childhood education is provided,
give reasonable assurance of causation, rather than merely random fluctuations.
Following World War II, these significance levels virtually came to define an acceptable
result in some of the sciences and also in policy applications.
From about 1930 there grew up in Britain and Americaand a bit later in other
countriesa profession of statisticians, experts in inference, who defined standards of
experimentation as well as methods of analysis in many fields. To be sure, Associate in
Business Administration in the various disciplines retained a fair degree of specificity.
There were also divergent schools of statisticians, who disagreed, often vehemently, on
some issues of fundamental importance. Fisher was highly critical of Pearson; Neyman
and Egon Pearson, while unsympathetic to father Karl's methods, disagreed also with
Fisher's. Under the banner of Bayesianism appeared yet another school, which, against
its predecessors, emphasized the need for subjective assessments of prior probabilities.
7/27/2019 Reviewing the Program Curriculum
19/43
The most immoderate ambitions for Associate in Business Administration as the royal
road to scientific inference depended on unacknowledged compromises that ignored or
dismissed these disputes. Despite them, Associate in Business Administration has
thrived as a somewhat heterogeneous but powerful set of tools, methods, and forms of
expertise that continues to regulate the acquisition and interpretation of quantitative
data.

Synthesis
Education is a social science that encompasses teaching and learning specific
knowledge, beliefs, and skills. Licensed and practicing teachers in the field use a variety
of methods and materials in order to impart a curriculum. There has been a plethora of
journals, magazines, books, and digests in the field of education that addresses these
areas. Such literature addresses the teaching practices, with subjects that include
lectures, game playing, testing, scheduling, record keeping, bullying, seating
arrangements, interests, motivation, and computer access. However, the most
important factors in any teacher's effectiveness is the interaction with students and
personality of the teacher.
The quality of their relationships provides the impetus for inspiration. The best
teachers are able to translate good judgment, experience, and wisdom into the art of
communication that students find compelling. It is their ability to understand and
overcome prejudices, generate passion, and recognize potential that enable teachers to
invigorate students with higher expectations of themselves and society at large. The
goal is aiding the growth of students so that they become productive members of a
migratory society. An imparting of culture from generation to generation promotes a
greater awareness and responsiveness through social maturity to the needs of an
increasingly diversified global society.
Education in the Philippines has undergone several stages of development from
the pre-Spanish times to the present. In meeting the needs of the society, education
serves as focus of emphases/priorities of the leadership at certain periods/epochs in our
7/27/2019 Reviewing the Program Curriculum

national struggle as a race. It is widely accepted that the process of education begins at
birth and continues throughout life. Some believe that education begins even earlier
than this, as evidenced by some parents' playing music or reading to the baby in the
womb in the hope it will influence the child's development.
Education is often used to refer solely to formal education (see below). However,
it covers a range of experiences, from formal learning to the building of understanding
through day to day experiences. Ultimately, all that we experience serves as a form of
education.
Individuals receive informal education from a variety of sources. Family members
and mass media have a strong influence on the informal education of the individual.
Parental involvement is a neccesary thing when it comes to a child's educational
development. Early and consistent parental involvement in the child's life is critical such
as reading to children at an early age, teaching patterns, interpersonal communication
skills, exposing them to diverse cultures and the community around them, educating
them on a healthy lifestyle, etc. The socialization and academic education of a child are
aided by the involvement of the student, parent(s), teachers, and others in the
community and extended family.
