Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Programs Our purpose is to reflect together on the vision and Christian ministry of Dr. King for the purpose of encouraging and cultivating a deeper commitment to be God’s agents of justice, peace and reconciliation. Murray Library Unsung Heroes of the Civil Rights Movement Display January 7-31, 2020 John Lewis. Diane Nash. James Meredith. These college students and many more were instrumental in propelling the Civil Rights movement forward, however, most of us don’t know their names, let alone their powerful stories. Join us as we celebrate these history makers in a library display that will highlight their groundbreaking achievements. Come into the library and head down the hall to the left to check it out from January 7-31. I AM A MAN Experience, I AM A MAN, a virtual reality (VR) experience by Derek Ham of the historic events of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Location: Murray Library Monday, January 20, 2020 MLK DAY OF SERVICE Serve with the Harrisburg community. 8:30am-1:00pm Sign up: Messiah.edu/agape Tuesday, January 21, 2020 COMMON CHAPEL featuring guest speaker, Dr. Minnijean Brown Trickey Worship led by Messiah College’s UVP Gospel Choir. 10:30am–11:30am Brubaker Auditorium EVENING CHAPEL featuring guest speaker, Dr. Minnijean Brown Trickey joined by Mrs. Spirit Tawfiq. 7:00pm – 8:00pm Hostetter Chapel Dr. Minnijean Brown Trickey is one of the nine African American students who collectively resisted opposition to the desegregation of Central High School (Little Rock, Arkansas) in 1957. Dr. Brown Trickey, a lifelong activist, is the recipient of numerous awards including the NAACP Spingarn Medal and the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian award. Wednesday, January 22, 2020 Trivia Night Have fun with your friends at our 1st MLK week Trivia Night. Start forming your teams now for a chance to win bragging rights and prizes!
