Bread of Life Food Pantry

Bread of Life Food Pantry satisfies the physical and spiritual hunger in the lives of dozens of local families each month. Your food donations provide both spiritual and physical food for neighbors in need. A variety of foods are used throughout the month – staples like breakfast cereal, soups, canned vegetables, canned fruit, and the like. Specific needs currently include: peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, canned fruits, spaghetti (noodles and sauce) as well as crackers. Please continue praying for our neighbors receiving food; ask the Father to reveal Himself to them through the Gospel as it is shared. To get more involved, please contact Susie Wed-dle at [email protected] or 768-3978 or Debbie Gambill at 712-8211.

FROM OUR PASTOR

FOR MANY PEOPLE IN OUR CULTURE, MARCH MADNESS, college basketball’s premier time of year, is the time when teams play toward the ultimate goal of winning the national championship. Some folks just naturally associate the month of March with March Madness. While I am a college basketball fan, I want to submit to you that for us at OTBC the month of March offers opportunities that are so much greater and have much more potential significant eternal impact this year. We are blessed to have so many spiritually enriching and potentially life-transforming opportunities happening right here at OTBC. Let me give you a brief synopsis of each one and I know you will block these dates on your calendar so as not to miss one single blessing God has in store for you. Furthermore, I trust that you are praying toward each event listed below and praying about people you can invite to come and join with you here for these special opportunities. I have three challenges for you toward each of these aforementioned opportunities:

Pray. Pray for each of these and pray that God will speak to you in each one. Attend. Make your attendance at these opportunities a top priority in your schedule. A blessing missed can never be

recovered. Don’t miss one of these! Invite. Invite friends, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, family members, whoever to come and join with you at each

of these opportunities GOD IS DOING GREAT THINGS! Are you open to Him doing great things in and through you? May Psalm 85:6 be our prayer as we plead with God for spiritual revival and renewal? MAY GOD BLESS YOU! See you on Sunday!

On the Mark for Missions “It is possible to move men through God by prayer alone.”

J. Oswald Sanders, Spiritual Leadership

It’s a great time to pray. Our Spiritual Renewal emphasis in mid-March is a vital time to seek God, making ourselves available for His Spirit to refresh our lives (move us). The scripture makes clear that the spiritual condition of our land is dependant not on what happens among the cultural/entertainment elite or political establishment, but, rather on what happens among God’s people. You can read about that in the classic passage on ‘revival’ found in 2 Chronicles 7:13 – 14. There we discover that when God judges the sins of a people, it is up to God’s people to move toward Him in repentance to receive forgiveness so He will heal our land. As we pray for spiritual renewal among our church family, we can also pray for spiritual awakening in our land. This awakening can happen, in part, through the Gospel-sharing, disci-ple-making work of North American Mission Board personnel. So, our prayers for spiritual renewal fit nicely with our prayers for mission-aries during the Week of Prayer for North American Missions, March 3 – 10.

As we seek God for personal and church renewal, we will begin seeing the world as He sees it. We will see the lostness around us. And, as we are revived, God will use us to share the Gospel and bring Life to spiritual dead people around us. Surely we all agree that the United States and Canada need a spiritual awakening that only God’s Spirit can produce! Did you know that 259,000,000 people living in North America do not enjoy a personal relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord? In other words, more than a quarter of a billion spiritu-ally lost people call North America home! Our state is populated by more than 5,400,000 people who do not know Jesus. Is there any won-der that our society promotes ideas and behaviors that clearly violate Scripture? Is it any wonder that the “all religions are the same” mindset is running rampant? We need a spiritual awakening like the one that occurred a little more than 150 years ago. In response to a prayer meet-ing started by business man named Jeremiah Lanphier, God’s Spirit moved to bring revival across the United States. In September 1857, Mr. Lanphier started what became a daily noon-time prayer meeting at the North Dutch Church in New York City. The first day of the gather-ing, 6 men met to pray for revival. The next week, 20 gathered, followed by 40 the third week and more than 100 on the fourth week. Within 6 months, more than 10,000 business people gathered each day to pray for revival.

Soon prayer gatherings broke out across the nation. One traveler discovered groups meeting virtually everywhere between Omaha, Nebraska and Boston, Massachusetts – a distance of over 2,000 miles! At the peak of the Awakening, about 50,000 people per week were converted to Christ. During a 2 year period (1857 – 58), 10,000 people joined churches every Sunday across the land – bringing more than one million new believers into the Body of Christ. Based on the nation’s population at the time, that would be like seeing 11,000,000 new converts within two years of 2013! The revival spread across the Atlantic to Great Britain where 1,000,000 more people were converted. Continuing on, the revival impacted continental Europe, western Russia, Australia, South Africa, India and beyond! The impact on global missions was astounding. This 3rd Great Awakening as it is called launched what is known as the 2nd Wave of the Modern Missions Move-ment. As a result of God’s activity, a great missions movement began – like the China Inland Mission under the leadership of Hudson Tay-lor. In the wake of this revival, William and Catherine Booth started the Salvation Army to take the Gospel to materially poor people. In this season, renowned missionaries like John G. Paton (New Hebrides), Robert Moffat and David Livingstone (African continent) launched their work.

Revival, evangelism, spiritual awakening and missions are inseparably linked. As we pray for renewal in our own lives, we can also be praying for a spiritual awakening in our land and an expansion of the Gospel to unreached peoples across the globe. As we pray, let’s remember more than 6,000 people groups that are considered ‘unreached’ with the Gospel, including our T-People of Southeast Asia that are newly engaged with the Gospel. God promises to work in amazing ways in response to our prayers. So, join me in seeking Him with all our hearts. It will be exciting to see what He does in response to our call! (See Jeremiah 33:3) Ready for Renewal,

Pastor Mark

Our OTBCC students are looking forward to warmer days which mean SUMMER CAMP 2013! Our Curriculum Coordinator is already planning our activities and events calen-dar, with weekly themes that will take us to many places around the world! Sign up in time to get your passport pre-pared and baggage tagged because our first trip is to Mex-ico! We’ll learn about each country as we travel weekly, en-joying their foods and learning their culture, making crafts, studying their beliefs and what the Bible says in comparison, learning a few words of their language, etc. As always, we will have a blast!

This year we are limiting our students to 28 in all. The possible exception is if we have enough rising Kindergarten students to open another classroom. If your child is entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2013, they can join our Summer Camp. We also welcome any Elementary and Middle School students up through 7th grade.

Our School-Age rates have not increased since 2010. Before and After School care is $60 per week. Summer Camp is $115 per week. We offer excellent student to teacher ratios and great teachers year-round. We’d love the opportu-nity to serve your family’s childcare needs.

March 2013 - Student Ministry

Student Ministry has had an awesome winter and we are gearing up for Spring to set in. We have spent the past several weeks learning what it means to be a follower and not simply a fan of Jesus. We’ve been challenged to not simply acknowledge God and go through the motions, but to allow our lives to be characterized and motivated by the Gospel of Jesus and the call He has put on our lives. The most ex-citing part about this series for me was that parents and students walked through it together. It is my prayer that this stimulated challenging, yet faith and family strengthening conversations. It is well documented through research that students who have regular faith-based conver-sations at home are MUCH more likely to continue their walk with Christ after High School. We have also been continuing our journey through the Old Testament on Sunday morning and Sunday evenings with the Gospel Project. This has been a great time of challenge and encouragement through worship, teaching, and our battlegroup discussions. Our Sunday eve-ning Converge schedule kicks off at 5:53 where we fellowship and goof off together for a bit, transition into worship and teaching, and then split off into our battlegroups to help digest what we have learned. It’s an incredible time that wraps up each Sunday at 7:43. If you have a middle or high school student not yet plugged into this, we would love to have them join us!

Finally, a couple of upcoming events in Student Ministry that we hope all of our students can be a part of. We will be going to a Spring Conference in Wake Forest, NC called “Contend.” This will be April 19th – 20th and will feature topics and discussions on why the Gospel of Christ is the one way, the one truth, and the one life. There are some great speakers and worship lined up for this event and it is sure to be a great opportunity. The cost is $25 plus food and the deadline for registration is April 10th. And lastly, just a reminder of our dates for Summer Camp this year: we will be headed to Caswell on July 22 – 27th. The deadline for registration is March 24th. The $75 deposit and registration form will be due then (total cost of camp will be $150). I’m excited about both of these opportunities and I can’t wait to see how God is going to use them in the lives of our students.

Thanks for your prayers and support of our students and this ministry!

Joe Maye

Proverbs 27:17 states,

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Our next gathering is on March 13th. We will serve breakfast ($2 per person) and coffee. Please register on the website or contact Pastor Jason via email [email protected] or by phone 336-480-8000.

This Sunday, we will welcome as our special guests in both services Joyful Hands from Gardner-Webb University. Joyful Hands is a ministry team which presents songs in American Sign Language.
